We had a giftcard and decided to go with Luc over Loulay, just more our taste and was it ever nommy. I had the halibut on special which was delicious and my husband had the pork, equally good. The aioli was a smidge strong for my Taste — I prefer more mild but the pom frittes were perfect and the French onion soup a home run. The lovely waitstaff had some excellent wine recommendations too, we agree we’ll be back!

We love Loulay’s so had to try Luc’s the Chef in the Hat’s other restaurant that so many have told us about. Wayne got the Boeuf Bourguignon with a poached duck egg and I got the Crêpe Poulet Roti, both were amazing with layers of delicious flavor. Thank you Thierry, we’ll be back.

This restaurant is not a bad place to eat. I just wouldn’t recommend it compared to all of the other options in the wonderful, food loving city of Seattle. I came here with a friend because the place we were going to eat at had a 45 minute wait. The food came out quickly and was tasty but a little over priced for how simple the food was. I wasn’t impressed with the service either. I kind of felt like we were annoying our server but was trying to be extra nice because I felt like I was annoying him… I asked for soy milk and it was kind of all down hill from there. I guess I should have known better to ask for a milk alternative at a French bistro type place, but this is Seattle after all. I got a salad with a couple poached eggs. Everything was tasty but just not a place I’d go back to. I can get much better salads for a reasonable price point elsewhere.

Came here for Valentine’s Day(the day after). We were really hoping to try the Basket of Soufflé Potato Crisps but they were already sold out for the day. We ordered the cheese plate(3 cheese) and it was very good. Surprisingly, we liked all 3 of the cheeses. I got the Linguine and my boyfriend got the steak and frites. He really liked his steak, but I did not really like the pasta. It was very plain. It didn’t taste like anything. Very odd. For dessert we got the Butter Scotch Crème Brulee. The custard itself was really good, but the burlee was too burnt. Overall, wasn’t my favorite and don’t plan to go back.

The pluses first– excellent service, nice casual ambience, good food. The minus– even during Happy Hour the drinks are over-priced. A Manhattan with bar bourbon was ten dollars, twice what it would be in many other places during HH. It is also noisy but that is because it is popular.

Luc is one of those Seattle institutions I’ve wanted to visit since I moved to Washington. Five years and a bunch of wrinkles later, here I am. I was a big fan of Rover’s(RIP Rover’s) and when that closed, I was pretty much(in my Thurston Howell voice) like«Now where do I go for fine dining?!».(FYI, I have since found the answer to that question, but that’s a different review.) Fast forward to now-ish: one day, after Loulay opened and we had consumed thoughtfully prepared meals there several times over, a friend suggested we try the OTHER other Thierry Rautureau restaurant… to which I responded(in my Thurston Howell voice), «Hell yes!» Nestled in Madison Valley, the parking situation is shared with the likes of Araya’s and Café Flora, two restaurants which I will gladly patronize. Finding a place for your car is reasonable and you can always catch a spot in the surrounding neighborhoods. Yes, I said«neighborhoods,» as this restaurant is a cute neighborhood bistro and bar type of place… but before you get too excited, I have to say: The food here was salty. Very salty. Even before I gave that feedback out loud at my table, someone commented on how salty their burger was. As difficult as it sounds to pull this off, the baby lettuce salad was salty. Weird! The croutons were great, however, and I was willing to forgive the simplicity of the dish because I tend to like salt and plain salad, but once the fish dish came(Trout Amandine), I became rather disappointed. The description reads: almond, lemon, parsley, baby potato, sugar snap peas. For the record, I definitely wasn’t getting much lemon or parsley. What I got was mostly a crazy(disproportionate?) amount of roasted almonds piled onto the fish, which were overpoweringly roasty flavored and pretty dry in the mouth… and the potatoes were bland and dry, yet oily. The sugar snap peas were nearly burned(was that intentional?). I found the fish on its own to be just bland(I had pushed aside the pile of almonds by the end). I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but I think the flavor profile of the Trout dish was imbalanced: all earthy flavors and no acid. What I wouldn’t have given for some aioli or a tartar sauce-like-thing. Bummer. I also tasted the Cassoulet… also salty and the consistency of the beans was… interesting. Service was friendly and attentive: They came through and frequently cleared the table and brought water, but for a weekday night and the restaurant only being partially full, the pacing of the entrees from the kitchen wasn’t stellar. We sat there for a bit with nothing on the table… and believe me, we were all starving. That’s more of a kitchen thing. All in all, I thought the food was okay, but I won’t be going out of my way for this place. Maybe for brunch, since it’s open until 3:00. Until then, if anyone needs me, I’ll be at Loulay’s.

I came here for brunch and was seated fairly fast. We were seated by the window and had a great view of the outside. The ambience is nice. Service was adequate. The food was super delicious! I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and family!

Good local atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, and decent food. Was hoping for more, so that’s why I gave it a three stars. I thought it would be more on the French side than its current menu. As I was looking for a more interesting French menu and I felt like we went to an average Joe’s french restaurant. It wasn’t a very adventuresome menu, and I think what makes it like that is the fact that the menus arrive under plastic… this makes it seem like the menu hasn’t been changed in years. Maybe an update is needed? The drinks were tasty, mystic lady and the rose’ champagne, however the red that was suggested to go with my steak and my husbands pork was way big and fruity. Not totally our taste. We should have gone with our gut and asked for a pinot, not a cab!

Stopped in for dinner at Luc a few days ago. My companion who is a wine lover, was given the option to taste wines he was considering for dinner, without request or cost! Our waiter was excellent and the butterscotch crème brûlée that ended our dinner was exemplary. It as a great experience.

Came for brunch on a Seahawks game day and was rewarded by having the place to ourselves(practically). Food was excellent — beignets were fresh and light(and come with whipped cream and compote), and my chicken crêpe was delicious. Beef bourguignon was an unexpected but welcome addition to the brunch selection, along with standards like eggs benedict and french toast. They even let us hang around the bar to watch the rest of the game after we were done eating :) Can’t speak for what it’s like on a «normal» non-Seahawks day, but would go again!

LOVE.LUC. The cozy atmosphere, the delicious food and drinks, the camaraderie of the staff and the feeling of family when you walk in the front door make this our go-to place in Madison Valley. My bf has travelled the world and he still claims that the onion soup here is the best he’s ever had. I love the Lyonnaise salad(if you’re veggie, you can request without the lardon) and the foraged mushroom noodles. Brunch is also spectacular on the weekend with omelets(made so fluffy and amazing!) and fresh-squeezed orange juice!

Went for brunch on a Sunday morning having received a gift voucher. Though it was prime brunching time, the restaurant was very sparsely populated(I guess everyone was elsewhere, watching the Seahawks game). With our $ 50 voucher(and only tip to be covered by us) we were able to partake in the following: One hot chocolate — warm and creamy but not super chocolatey… A little disappointing. One seasonal fruit rickey(it was lemon/rosemary) — super refreshing and easy to drink. An order of beignets — magically light puffs of dough and powdered sugar, served with divine clotted cream and a fruit spread du jour(DELICIOUS apple/cinnamon/raspberry). Croque Madame for me — in my opinion, could’ve used a generous helping of black pepper but was generally very good: crunchy bread, loads of sweet/salty ham, just the right amounts of bechamel and cheese, and an egg cooked to my stated preference(as a pregnant lady, I’m unfortunately not supposed to have eggs runny, as they typically are in this dish). Side salad of slightly bitter greens played against all the sweet & salt nicely. Eggs Benedict for him — we were unsure why these were marketed as «sliders,» as they were hardly smaller than your typical eggs benny would be. Very good, on the whole, might’ve benefited from an «herbier» hollandaise. The side of vegetable hash was really lacking in salt but a nice accompaniment. We definitely recommend the beignets as a brunch«starter» and would probably order those entrees again, despite our minor complaints. :) Service was super attentive and friendly.

People keep telling me this place is owned by the Cat in the Hat or something so I should be impressed. I am impressed, and it’s by the food. The soufflé fries like french fries, but hollow as if they were inflated with air. The outside is crispy, crunchy and salty, as all things should be. It comes with a Harissa dip that is spicy and delicious enough that you’re probably not allowed to just eat it alone even though everyone wants to(same with frosting or cheese whiz). The French onion soup was perfect. I probably would have enjoyed it more had our server not informed us that it was made from veal stock instead of beef stock, which I’m sure is culinarily(is that a word?) impressive but left me worrying about baby cows for the rest of the meal and feeling like I just might be a bad person for eating it. The boeuf bourguignon is like the best beef stew you’ve ever had. It’s filled with tender carrots, mushrooms, pearl onions, and«boeuf», which I presume means beef but is pronounced with your eyebrows raised and a silly grin on your face. It also comes with a cute little swirl of whipped potatoes tucked on the inside edge of the bowl. You can usually find parking behind the restaurant on the residential streets nearby if Madison is packed.

My friend and I tried this spot for happy hour recently. I had been to Loulay and wasn’t terribly impressed but I am happy to report that I liked Luc better! We had: –French fries– came with a delicious aioli –Tuna tartare– small but delicious dish –Smoked salmon tartine– probably the weakest dish –Bouillabaisse– delicious! It came in a small, but seafood-filled, bowl We had a good, friendly service and enjoyed the ambiance. I also liked the large selection of seafood dishes, a rarity for a French restaurant. All in all, we had a good time and I think Luc is one of the more underrated spots in Seattle!

Came here today for brunch. It is was definitely different from my first experience. The food was only OK today. I ordered the same sliders and the potatoes were like night and day. The favors weren’t spot on. Downgrading to 3 stars.

New brunch menu is tasty and full of unique choices. The beet bloody mary is really good if you like beets. I had the eggs Benedict and was very impressed. They take reservations and hane a tv if you want to sit at the bar and watch the game.

Great spot for a low key Sunday brunch, in Madison Valley, completely uncrowded and delightful. Nice outdoor patio, perfect on a rare Seattle warm day for eating outside! The chef-owner at the former foodie mecca Rovers and Loulay downtown, owns Luc, and it’s a neighborhood French bistro with a warm color scheme and friendly feel. They have a Saturday, Sunday only brunch offering. While the menu is simple and well edited, you can get everything from pork belly or a burger to french toast. Try the beignets, which are light and airy and come with powdered sugar, homemade compote and fresh whipped cream. These are really good, fluffy beignets, not the tooth-chipping hockey pucks I’ve ordered up at supposed«french» spots elsewhere in town. The crêpe with house smoked salmon and dill sauce is a good, light but satisfying brunch dish. The pork belly in white bean with egg is good too, but a little on the soupy side and needed a bit more seasoning. We opted to add an extra egg or two, since one egg did not seem enough. The service was friendly, but a little inexperienced: didn’t know his menu, didn’t remove the menus after ordering, etc. but he had good intentions, just not a pro yet. This was such an enjoyable and low key brunch, I really have to wonder why there are lines outside of Café Flora, when there are better offerings and no wait times directly across the street at Luc.
