Last time I tried coming to this place(about a month ago) it seemed as if it was close for renovation or permanently. There was a guy in the front with a ladder. I was hoping to try it, but hopefully it’s just renovating.

Unfortunately I think this place has been replaced — tried to go there this past week and it was some other chinese joint

We came here for dinner when we visited Seattle. Food and service wise it is ok. We ordered yam basket, wat tan hor and yong chow fried rice. The yam shell was good but the filling it need more gravy and seasonings. Wat tan hor was good but the were a bit stingy on the seafood. Fried rice was just so so.

Malay Satay is my favorite restaurant. It’s a hole-in-the-wall place that not that many people know about. I go there for my birthday and special occasions, as well, because they have a few round tables where all my friends and family can sit together and talk. The food is super flavorful and yummy. My favorite is the Malaysian Pad Thai that has green beans and prawns, as well as the green bean dish with prawns and Satay Chicken for an appetizer. YUM! You must go!

Malay Satay Hut was one of the first restaurants I went to when I first moved to the Seattle area a while ago. It has come a long way since its humble beginning(wait, this is starting to sound like a rap song I know…). The hours are now more limited and this location is closed on Tuesdays(check out their Redmond location instead!). Prices have gone up and portions have gone a bit down, unfortunately. However, the food quality remains excellent, thus the 4 stars. Service is okay to good. My all-time favorites are: roti canai, oyster omelette, nasi lemak(you can substitute the curry chicken for curry beef at no additional charge!), curry beef(delicious tender pieces of beef that remind me of Indonesian beef rendang), and kangkung belachan.

I’ve only ever ordered takeout from here so I can’t really comment on the wait staff. They do seem to be organized enough to get our orders right and done in a timely manner, however. My favorite dish(and probably one of their most popular) is the Buddhist yam pot… mostly for the pot itself. It’s like eating the shell on a taco salad. I’ve found that the yam pot doesn’t get too soggy either which is great for takeout. The mango tofu is also a good choice. It mirrors a Thai dish in flavor and presentation. The roti canai is like the Malaysian version of naan. It’s super yummy and a must order appetizer. In general, I find the price to portion ratio to be a bit too high which is why I gave them three stars. They could work on the consistency of quality in their dishes to justify such high prices.

It has been awhile since I have been here, but I still really like the place, especially when I want some Malay food that I can’t really get anywhere else. My mom’s side of the family is from Malaysia and I’ve been to Malaysia a few times, so this places brings good memories especially with the different flavors and dishes. I especially love the Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak(their coconut rice is bomb!), the belacan okra and chow kueh teow. The teh tarik wasn’t as good as ones I’ve had in Malaysia, but it wasn’t bad either. I also like the durian shake since I am a huge lover of durian(I know, gross to some people haha). Other than that, the last experience was good and the owner remembered my mom after a long while. The food came quick enough at dinner time even though there were a couple other parties there too. Pretty good food but not outstanding. The roti canai I didn’t think was that amazing, and I’ve had my fair amount of that dish in my life. However the mango chicken was very good and they give a lot of mango and, in general, very large portions. Friendly service as well.

dinner food: ordered the fried intestines, hainanese chicken, roti canai, chicken/beef satay. favorite was the intestines. some places make it in a way where that pig taste is too strong, but they made it just right, plus the crispiness of it makes it even better, especially the end parts. the satay were very good. the beef is tender and beefy. the hainanese chicken is pretty average. we also got the coconut dessert, which is pretty lame. its some pudding/jello in a fresh coconut. go for the drink, not the dessert ***4/5 service: only 2 tables being served. servers were attentive and got our check pretty quick. ***5/5 ambiance: its a medium sized spot. you can tell youre in an asian restaurant if that means anything. ***3/5 price: not too bad. a little bit more than $ 10 a person if you dont count drinks. i left satisfied. ***4/5

I am a big fan of Malaysian food just for their Roti Canai as it reminds me of eating the paratha in India. I tried the Roti Canai and Roti Telur(Roti with egg). Both these dishes were pretty fresh and the roti was crisp and fluffy. The Curry that came with it was also nice. I ordered the fresh Mango squeeze and it did have real mangoes in them and didnt have too much artificial sweeteners in it. For the Entrée, i tried the curry rice with chicken but didnt like it much as it was basically the same curry that they serve for Roti canai and this curry is served over steamed chicken pieces. As the chicken was not cooked in the curry, it had a raw taste to it. I would definitely come back for the Roti Canai alone :)

My girlfriend and I could not decide where to eat around International District, and I was glad she agreed to try this place because I have been wanting to come here for a long time. Place was cleaner than what I expected based on its location and how the place looks from the outside. Staff was friendly and accommodating, with good service too. The fried Roti Canai appetizer was really good. A little heavier in consistency than what I expected but both of use liked it. The sauce was not overpowering too. A smart choice to start the meal. We ordered the fish fillet noodle soup. The broth was gingery, tomato-y(if there is such a term) and not overly salty or loaded with MSG like the typical broth you would taste from a Chinese noodle soup. They used the thin rice noodle — mai fun if I believe, which I am not a big fan of. The soup was mostly noodle and they kinda skimped on the fish and veggies. They used fried fish fillet for the soup, bad idea because the fish became too soggy and did not have the good texture you would expect from a fried fillet. Fish was a little on the salty side as well. Overall not really a good choice for a noodle soup. Finally, we ordered the Buddhist Yam Pot. I liked this one. Veggies and shrimp were properly flavored and the creamy texture of the veggies/seafood complemented the the fried taro/yam around it. The fried yam was not overly greasy as well. Generally not a bad choice if you are in the area and looking for a slightly different cuisine. I think the fried pork chops would be a good choice next time.

Have you ever been in a situation where you split an appetizer with someone and wish you hadn’t? Well I’m here to warn you to just order your own roti canai. It’s cheap. You can do it. It is, by far, my most favorite thing on the menu. I also really love the banchan string beans. The shrimp paste and shrimp and greens are just lovely together. The clay pots are also fun. For something on the sweet side, try the Chinese-style pork chops or the mango + anything. But order the roti canai. Just for yourself.

I’ve been frequenting Malay Satay as far back as my college years. Unfortunately there are not enough Malaysian restaurants in the area to compare it to. Regardless I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. They have a second location in Redmond near the Microsoft campus, but I honestly like the food at the Seattle location better. The only negative is their ridiculously tight parking lot. You basically have to play bumper cars or have a small vehicle. The other option would be to park on the street. I was craving chicken and rice so I recently went in for the Hainanese chicken. I love the Roti Canai! It’s definitely a popular item and for good reason. Ashley T described the potato curry gravy to the T. It’s a pretty awesome snack. The Malaysian pork chop is on the sweeter side, but that should be expected. It’s not so bad if you eat it with rice. One of my other favorites to have with my family is the buddhist yam pot. Piles of mixed veggies and seafood in an edible bowl? Yes please! Their lunch options are fairly decent. I tend to order the spicy chicken and rice for lunch.

I had Malaysian food in Vancouver BC and was craving it when I got back to Seattle. I found Malay Satay Hut on Unilocal and was not disappointed. I met my friend right after work so it wasn’t crowded yet. We got the Roti Canai appetizer based on other Unilocalers’ positive reviews. My friend got the Laksa and I got Mee Goreng. The portions were very large so we had food to take home. Parking was available in the strip mall but limited. My friend had to park on the street. Highly recommend!

I can’t believe it’s taken me years to try this restaurant, my loss. Just like very other reviewer said, the roti canai is BOMB! It’s crisp and warm on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. It’s similar to a Chinese green onion pancake without the green onions and grease. I couldn’t believe how light and tasty it was without all that oil coating your fingers. The potato curry sauce was phenomenal. If I could, I’d lick the pan but not in public. I hate to call it «curry» b/c it may scare some people from trying it b/c it’s not your typical Indian, Chinese or Japanese curry. It’s more like comfort-food gravy. As for the meal, the Malaysian pork chop was divine. Ever so lightly breaded and deep-fried and stir-fried in this slightly sweet, tangy sauce. My guess on their secret ingredient: A1 sauce. Yum… The veggie curry dish was just delish! Nice rectangular fried tofu mixed with green beans, mushrooms, okra, baby corn, carrots in the same curry sauce. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a better vegetarian dish. My co-worker tried to chicken and eggplant and it was fabulous. The eggplant was tender but not mushy. It was slightly spicy w/a hint of sweetness. The chicken slices were thick and tender. I would definitely order that for myself in the future. I am looking forward to trying more of their dishes sooner than later.

Definitely overpriced for the food, location, and(lack of) ambiance. The menu is interesting and the food is very tasty — so I’ll be back at some point. I recommend the singapore noodles and the hainanese chicken rice.

Been going to MSH forever, for years. I very often go to the one in Redmond, since it’s close to some of my favorite clients. Favorite dishes there: – Roti Canai(MUSTGETEVERYTIMEYOUGOTHERE) – Mango anything — chicken, tofu, etc…(I prefer the tofu) – Singapore noodles – Hainanese chicken rice(the rice!!!) – Green beans I think that’s about it. Their shakes(drinks) are also very thick and delicious. I like the little candy treats that come with the bill too.

I’m not exactly sure what kind of restaurant this is. They have all sorts of dishes that would be considered Chinese — but I do not know what style they fall under. You’ll find a lot of Asian customers eating here, so I’m guessing it’s fairly authentic. Some of their dishes are reasonable, others are fairly expensive like Buddah’s yam pot — but all had good flavor. I didn’t have anything that was amazing, so it’s a toss-up whether we’ll go back. They are closed on Tuesdays(I think) — Call to see if they are open!

I love this place but when the heck are they open!!! It seems they close at random times with no note on the door or update of their voicemail message. I’ve stopped being a regular b/c I can’t figure out when they are there and no one picks up the phone. When I can eat there I get the Malaysian pork chops, roti, belachan string beans with shrimp, mango shrimp, and sometimes the singapore noodles. It seems to be pricier than a lot of places in the ID. The parking lot is very tight and small.

Haven’t been here in a while and my co-worker decided to have her anniversary lunch here at the behest of my previous review. Nothing has changed and their food is still as delicious as it was before. On the table: Roti, Beef Satay, Pineapple fried rice, Malaysian pork chops, Belachun Kang Kung, and Singapore Noodles. All of which my team absolutely loved. They didn’t know what to expect or what to order, so they let me do the ordering and I went with what I normally get. They devoured the pork chops, loved the rice and thought the kang kung was a great vegetable dish. So glad they liked it! They(and I of course) loved their meal so much that they even tried my avocado shake and even got the courage to order a durian shake. Be it that it was their first time to try it, I think they were introduced to this notorious fruit in the best possible way. Kudos to them for giving it a shot! All in all, still a great spot! I left feeling full, contented and suffering a lulling food coma. Well worth the money and would still definitely come back! Cheers Malay Satay Hut! Keep doing the do!
