Nagomi Tea House is a nice unassuming event space in the old Uwaji’s. I’ve been here for a couple of events, and I definitely appreciated the spaciousness of the room as well as the parking lot in front, which is a plus especially in the I-district. It isn’t the most luxurious space, but it is practical and works for many types of functions.

A beautiful Japanese-style tea house inside the old Uwajimaya building in Seattle’s International District? Who knew? Equipped with a tokono-ma(decorative alcove), fusuma(paper sliding doors), and tatami mats raised above the gravel and stone ground, complete with a traditional Japanese-style roof. The whole structure fits neatly in the corner of a spacious, high-ceiling hall, which is big enough to comfortably accommodate roughly 100 chairs, adjacent to a smaller business meeting room and small counter for serving tea and drinks. My organization(Japan Young Professionals Group) rented the event hall last Thursday. We set up the space in a business seminar style with rectangular table and chairs. We needed roughly 50 seats for people to sit down and eat bento box catered from Mashiko Sushi, while listening to the speech of the Chef Hajime Sato. There were plenty of tables and chairs, spanking new, plus extra for registration and drink service area. Microphone and audio equipment was already set up and we didn’t need to bring in anything. A small kitchen area next the event space provides hot water. We brought in tea, sake, and cups to serve drinks with. Everything went smoothly and we had a positive experience with the event space. I’m writing this review hoping that more people notice this unique and valuable space — I personally don’t know any other event space that comes with a real tea house, and guests can stay comfortable in chair instead of sitting on tatami mat.
