Recently I hired NW Mobile Marine to do some repairs and some modifications to my boat. Specifically I hired Mr. Adams to change the straight pipe side exhaust back to the original stock exhaust and to flush and refill the power steering fluid. Changing the exhaust was a fairly simple job. All that was involved was to disconnect the exhaust from the side ports, cap them and turn the 90 degree elbows down so that they would be pointing to the stock exhaust un-​cap the stock exhaust and reattach the plumbing.
When I talked on the phone to Mr. Adams, he wanted to come out and assess what parts He would need, that seemed logical to me. However, when Mr. Adams arrived he failed to get in the engine compartment only looking at the exhaust from a distance. He neglected to measure the size of the pipes. When Mr. Adams left that day, a Friday, he said that he would not be able to get to my boat the next week. That week went by and as expected no Mr. Adams. The following Monday I did expect a call if for no other reason than to keep me informed and to schedule an appointment. I waited until Wednesday of the second week and called Mr. Adams. During that conversation Mr. Adams scheduled an appointment for that Friday at 4:00. Friday came and no Mr. Adams. Not even a phone call! I called him the following Monday and he rescheduled for the following Wednesday at 1:00. On Wednesday Mr. Adams shows up two hours late and since he neglected to measure the exhaust system he had all of the wrong parts. The pipes coming off the exhaust riser was 4″ and the stock exhaust was 3.5″. There needed to be a reducer in the plumbing at some location. Mr. Adams decided to have a reducer welded to the 90 degree elbow. I asked Mr. Adams if he could ask the welding shop to get the quickest turnaround possible, He said that he could not do that because the welding shop did not give a crap. At this point in time I can see that Mr. Adams is the one who does not give a crap about his customers! Another week goes by and no Mr. Adams. By this time it’s nearly a month since I first filled out the contact form on the NW Mobile Marine web site for expedited service. After two more appointments that Mr. Adams blew off, he finally shows up on a Saturday. While he was working on hooking up the exhaust, I asked «don’t you think you should check out the old exhaust system?» Mr. Adams said no it’s fine and neglected to do so. When he finished hooking the exhaust to the old stock system he found that the caps for the side exhaust ports did not fit. Mr. Adams neglected to measure them at the store when he bought them. At this point Mr. Adams tells me that you’ll just have to find caps for the side exhaust ports on your own. He never attempted to change the power steering fluid. The next day I fabricated caps out of pipe caps and RTV from Home Depot. That afternoon we launched the boat. As soon as we started to pull away from the dock it was obvious that there was something wrong. It seemed like there was something plugging the exhaust. It took several more days to get Mr. Adams to come out and look at my boat and when he did he denied that there was anything wrong with the boat. In spite of the fact that when the boat was running next to the dock a person could see that there was no exhaust coming out of the center of the prop where it should be coming from. Mr. Adams looked at the engine and said that there was a loose spark plug wire and that was the problem. The following Wednesday my friend from Spokane and I pulled the boat out. When we got it back to my house I crawled under and looked in the exhaust port of the outdrive. In that exhaust port was a rubber cap that had been previously capping the old stock exhaust. The 460 V-​8 had blown the cap off and jammed it down the outdrive. It took me several hours to fish the rubber cap out of my outdrive.
In the final analysis Mr. Adams did not do the work promised in the 4 hours estimated and the work he did do was screwed up and had to be repaired. Furthermore, in the process of screwing up my boat he tied up my boat for six weeks.
That is why I asked for my money back! At this point Mr. Adams refuses to give my money back or even take my calls.
Mr. Adams charged me nearly $ 600 and only did half of the work promised and the work he did do was screwed up!
The bottom line is that Mr. Adams is too lazy to be thorough and conscientious!

This is a follow up to my great review of 2 years ago. With more work needed on my boat I called and emailed Dana multiple times and have never had a call or email returned. This is unprofessional at best.

Sorry to do this but since I posted a 5 star review when I first met Dana I figured I better update, things have definitely changed.
I had Dana out a few times for routine maintenance and though communication was always a little rough the work eventually got done and for a reasonable price. However,… Once a year I have my dad in town to go fishing on my boat. On the first day out I had major issues and called Dana. He came down to the marina that night and replaced a riser on the motor for $ 700 and called to say everything was fixed and we could go fishing in the morning. Well, we went out the next morning and had the same major issue. I called Dana and told him. He said he would get it fixed but the boat needed to be out of the water this time. I pulled it from moorage and trailered it home where Dana agreed to come work on it after he picked up parts. I explained how urgent this was with my dad in town and all and he said no problem he would be there. Never heard from him again. I left messages and sent emails. No reply. Very disappointed that my dad flew in for nothing. Needless to say I wont be calling NW MM anymore. Really too bad as I thought pretty highly of Dana and his service to begin with.

Dana is great, and I’m glad to have him work on my boat. He seems to be the only mechanic that will do an oil change on an outboard on my actual boat. The last time he did an oil change it seemed like the oil was over filled, so I called Dana to ask if he could come take a look, and asked him if he could come that day. Dana was very accommodating and came over and removed some of the oil for no extra charge. He definitely has earned my trust.

Called three times and sent him a email, to no avail. With all these good reviews he has I thought he would at least take the time to call me back. After all, am trying to give him my business.

Answered my call 2^nd ring, he was unable to come do my repair do to the distance. I appreciate he said «my travel costs would not be worth it to you for that job». Dana then went on to assist me over the phone with how to do the repair and source the parts. He made $ 0 in talking to me but was a great resource on my repair.

Dana did not provide quality work or communication. I dropped my 2 hp Tohatsu engine off at his shop on Mon hoping to have it Fri. I called him Thurs for update and he acted surprised and hadn’t even started working on it. It wasn’t ready Fri, and he started working on it Sat and said the carburetor needed to soak for several days but it *might* work. I paid my $ 200 and took the engine out on the sail boat with the kids, and the idle circuit didn’t work and the engine kept stalling. So my weekend plan with kids failed.
I then returned the engine to him to allow the carburetor to soak longer. He never called me. I called him several times and he said he hadn’t gotten to the engine yet. He’s had the engine for over 2 weeks now and I don’t know the status.
Anyway, I was very surprised by this poor customer service, poor communication and poor workmanship as there are good reviews here.

A++++++!!! He jumped my battery, de winterized the boat, and towed to the slip. He does it all and is very HONEST! I am so glad to finally find a reliable boat mechanic.

Dana was awesome and very reasonably priced! I have a Mercury 3.5hp 4 stroke motor for my sailboat that would not start. I am so glad i chose him over a shop. He was very knowledgable, and diagnosed my motor problems really well. He was very hands on and helped educate me on the motor and showed me the problems while he worked on it. He seemed very much about giving you more for your money and providing a good value for his work. I also appreciated how he was really honest about some things that were a very simple fix. I will definitely recommend him to anyone having trouble with their motor or wanting to improve its performance.

Dana was very helpful and professional. I had him look at my Mercury 9.9 kicker motor and he figured out it was the Carb in no time. Took it with him and rebuilt it. Brought it back to my house and installed for me. Motor started right up after that and purrs like a kitten. I would recommend his service to anyone.

Dana was decent to work with and seemed knowledgeable. I had 2 issues though, first that he told me he would do work on a certain date and blew me off until a week later. And second he double billed me for some work. I dont think it was on purpose and he did refund me when I mentioned it but its an indicator of his being too busy or scattered to keep track of the business end of his business.

I was hoping to use NW Mobile Marine Service this week after noticing my outboard leaking oil. I sent an email Sunday night waiting for a reply on Monday. Maybe he did not see it. I called Tuesday morning and left a message. No reply. I called Wednesday morning and left a voice mail saying if he was too busy just to call and let me know and I would look for someone else. It is after 8 pm and I still have not heard from him. I would hope for a return phone call letting me know he was too busy, did not perform that particular service, or was out of town.

I haven’t written a Unilocal review in years but felt compelled to after Dana fixed my boat today. He really is the best. I have dealt with many marine mechanics before (the joys of owning a boat) and he is by far the most upfront, competent mechanic I have dealt with. He was able to a) come out and check out my boat within two days of calling him (in early July, no less), b) diagnose the problem almost immediately, c) fix the problem quickly, and c) recommend courses of action to prevent the problem from recurring.

Dana was willing to come help us out on a SATURDAY. Need I say more?
In under an hour he had our problem diagnosed and solved. Timely, even on a Saturday morning, and efficient. Thorough with his trouble shooting, and very reasonably priced. We will be using him again!

Dana is the real deal. I have had Dana do a number of repairs and enhancements to my inboard V8 while in the marina. He is quick, efficient, on time & has very reasonable prices. The mobile service is very convenient. Dana knows his stuff and is very upfront and trustworthy. I look forward to using NW Mobile Marine going forward!

Dana is great. He is easy to work with and picked up my motor. Now he is delivering it back to my boat. I have used a couple of other shops before. Both were cranky and over priced. I have a Yamaha so you can guess who I used… won’t do that again. Dana is reasonaby priced and a pleasure to work with.

With 4^th of July around the corner, I realized our Yamaha outboard was badly in need of an oil change and tuneup. However, getting the inflatable off the boat, taking it to a boat ramp, then towing it to a repair shop was more of a chore than I wanted to entertain… enter Dana! With my regular mechanic too slammed with the 4^th of July rush, I turned to Unilocal and found Cary’s nice review. On very short notice, I too enjoyed prompt courteous service at a very reasonable price. I probably paid what a shop would have charged me without the trailer hassle. Keep up the good work Dana!

Being a new boat owner I was bound to end up needing a marine mechanic. I found Dana’s ad on craigslist and gave him a call when my outboard motor wouldnt start. He trouble shooted the problem with us over the phone. He gave us a few ideas of things to try and talked to us on the phone for about 15 minutes. When i wasnt able to get the motor going with his tips, I called him back and he came out that day to the marina and checked out my problem. Dana diagnosed the problem quickly and prescribed a carb rebuild on my outboard motor, and it is now running like a dream! I highly recommend Dana for your mobile marine needs. Hes super easy to work with, highly skilled and a pleasure to do business with.
