After calling around to get quotes for a printer service call, I went with Technical Support Services («printerandfaxrepair» is their website, not the biz name) because David was the only person I spoke with that knew from the model number (ancient HP) that new replacement parts would be difficult to find and we’d have to go with refurbished ones. I was impressed with his knowledge and set up an appointment. A couple other companies would have been able to make it out about a day earlier, but it’s our spare printer so there wasn’t much of a hurry.
David arrived on time and went to work. I hardly had a chance to interact with him because he finished the job so quickly. We were having print quality issues and he showed me a «before» and «after» print job to demonstrate that he’d fixed the problem. He showed me what he did, and the invoice also had a clear breakdown of labor, parts, and tax. After the fact I’ve realized we could have purchased a new printer for the cost of the repair, but this way nothing goes to waste, right? I also saw a new customer discount mentioned online, and it would have been nice to have that offered when I got the invoice. But overall I’d say the rates are comparable/​competitive to similar repair companies so it’s not like we got ripped off.
Locally owned and operated since 1991, Technical Support Services donates to several good charities, and they make a point of being green by using non-​toxic cleaning supplies, driving fuel efficient vehicles, recycling whenever possible, and picking up and recycling old machines (for $ 15). If your printer isn’t covered by a service contract I do suggest you call Technical Support Services. However, you may want to get a better idea of the cost of repair vs replacement before you commit.

I called Printer and Fax Repair because our ancient yet reliable printer at work was acting up. Even over the phone, he guessed that it had cracked rollers (it did!) and gave us an accurate quote on doing a basic service. Our machine is cleaner and isn’t jamming like it was before.
It’s a relief not to have to buy a new printer just because of some small problems! Thank you!
