Red Opal Professional Pet Sitting

Found this service on Thumbtack and am extremely disappointed and upset. We used their monthly mid-​day walks for 5 months and overnight services for our Rottweiler and Corgi (beginning when they were 5 month old puppies).
The dog walkers rotated between several girls, whom we have never met nor discussed how we’d like our dogs to be cared for. It was all through email with a Lana or Eva. We did have a meet and greet with someone, but she was inattentive and did not ask any questions.
Several notes had to be left to remind the different walkers of what was initially reviewed at the first and only meet and greet in Oct. There was evidence that the gentle lead was not being used properly for the Rottweiler, the dogs’ kennels were not properly shut/​locked, excess treats were given resulting in stomach issues, and our back door deadbolt was sometimes left unlocked. The walkers left very sparse and sometimes blank notes post-​walk, leaving me to question whether or not my dogs were let out at all during the day and if they truly had a 30-​minute walk.
We also used their overnight pet sitting once when we had a death in the family. This experience was also not pleasant, despite the eager sitter arriving early to review care instructions (yet never wrote anything down). However, upon returning, the dogs were given soft toys that were restricted and we had to deal with diarrhea for over a week and then constipation which ended with a $ 600 vet bill. The company refunded me one night for my inconvenience.
While a phone number is listed on their website, I have never spoken to a live person with my concerns — it was all through email. The emails were also very defensive and poor customer service.
I ended up canceling their walks because a second meet and greet could not be scheduled and I feared for the health and safety of my pets. While their contract states non-​refundable, they knew of my disappointment and unease and did nothing to win me back as a customer. Furthermore, they are currently ignoring my emails as I petition them for my refund from their «New York office».

DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR PETS OR YOUR HOME.

Bad, bad, bad. I found Red Opal on Thumbtack. Seemed reasonable, had good reviews. Jacqueline must have paid someone to write them. Immediately demanded the filling out of an application. Filled it out. Reported I’d filled it out. Red Opal wouldn’t communicate until one was filled out. Next I started receiving rude and demanding emails asking why I wasn’t being responsive enough to their emails. Wait, wait, doesn’t the fact that I need their help indicate I am busy… in my case two jobs busy? And just when did the time of service providers become more important than that of those seeking the service? Crazy, crazy I tell you. I wouldn’t trust someone so rude and demanding to have access to my house, let alone to care for my dog. Red Opal, bad choice for something so important.

Jacqueline is awesome– she’s truly invested in making sure your pet is taken care of and happy. We hired her to walk and feed our dog Buddy while we were away and we always felt confident that he was in good hands. She sent us a text after each walk letting us know how he was doing, which was a really nice service. She anticipated issues on our first meeting that I might’ve forgotten to mention which reassured me that she had lots of experience, was super-​responsible, and had good attention to detail. We’ll definitely hire her again to take care of Buddy while we’re away! Five stars for sure!
