Awesome, better than how to cook a wolf. Showed up at 5:15 on a Sunday and was able to enjoy happy hour. Consistently good for all ordered items. We got the ensalta mista, burrata, mozzarella and fennel sausage pizza. The burrata was awesome and even the pizza was good. I had the lamb pasta which was tasty, albeit salty. The wine actually was kinda«meh» but I guess that they can have a pass as I only tried a couple different types of red. Tried the ricotta cheesecake; it was different than the normal fare but great. Service was good too. Will return.

I’m writing this review specifically to refute the review of the douchebag sitting next to me tonight. This dude felt the need to wear his winter scarf and a newsboy cap indoors, just so you have an image of what we’re dealing with here. This idiot deemed two rounds of pasta inedible because he dosn’t understand what fresh pasta tastes like. I overheard him saying«I’ve heard of al dente but this is ridiculous.» Here’s how I know he was a moron: I ocrdered the exact same thing(Cacio e Pepe) and it was PERFECT. My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Rome and when we had Rionne XIII’s Cacio e Pepe, we both teared up because it was so perfect. I guess Cap Guy is used to Chef Boyardee.(Hey douchebag, if you’re reading this, «al dente» means«to the tooth». Try Olive Garden, I think you’ll be happier there.)

Great atmosphere. The appetizers were very good. But, that is where the good ended. I get al dente pasta, but this pasta was just plain uncooked. 3 of our party of 4 had the same problem. Staff tried to accommodate but we are walking away very disappointed.

I literally cannot say enough nice things about this place, probably the best costumer service I’ve ever received! The staff are above and beyond, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is lovely too! They will be seeing a lot more of me in the future !

Ate here again today. Everything(beet salad, ahi tuna, ricotta ravioli, cheesecake and chocolate dessert) was perfectly prepared, and the service was excellent as well. We got there early and were able to get a table without a reservation.

I was concerned the small plates would be small and overpriced — I was wrong we got the burrata and risotto balls and they were totally generous. I personally hate the idea of tapas but those Italian small plates made me change my mind. I had an excellent lamb special, my partner had ravioli which was also excellent. I want to rate 4 because I’m picky but the bartender was super nice and attentive(we ate at bar) and I want to come back.

Excellent happy hour — 5 – 6PM on Sunday — Thursday. My friend and I shared the potato pizza(~$ 8), fried gnocchi(~$ 6), and bucatini all’amatriciana(~$ 8). All were excellent. The gnocchi I believe is only on the happy hour menu — I’ve never had fried gnocchi before but it was so tasty while still keeping that soft potato texture. It came with a delicious tomato sauce. The pizza was quite large — we had leftovers — but the potato was a nice touch with rosemary and anchovy for some strong flavors. The pasta was excellent — super fresh sauce with super fresh pasta. It was more than enough food for a meal for two and all very reasonably priced for the quality.

Very good neighborhood italian restaurant. Have been here 5 – 6 times. More I come more I like it. Last time I went on Sep 5th and had branzino, antipasti and leg of lamb. Fish was well prepared and reminded me of my trip to Amalfi Coast. I also had cacio e pepe here before and it was divine. Much better than Cacio e Pepe in Rome that Anthony recommended on his tv show. Why 4 and not 5 stars? I just don’t think it has a wow factor for me but I like it.

On my most generous day I would say this place just about touches the average mark. We went here for dinner as a group of 9 and ordered a lot of things, none of which impressed. We started off with a couple of plates of the House Antipasti. The Prosciutto di Parma was nice but everything else was meh. We then ordered a couple of Pizzas. The Fennel Sausage was extremely bland and unimpressive. It needed some seasoning and freshness. The Margherita was greasy and flavorless. On to pastas, the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe was doused in so much pepper that nothing else could be tasted. The Bucatini all’Amatriciana was flavorless and greasy. The Spring Conchiglie was actually quite nice and the only saving grace. The portions of all pasta dishes were really small considering the steep prices. Honestly the only part of the meal I really enjoyed was when the desserts came. The Ricotta and Fennel cheesecake was outstanding. I really enjoyed the flavors and textures here. The tiramisu was not a traditional one but still quite good. The grapefruit gelato and the basil sorbet were ok. Overall the ambiance and service is really great, the prices are steep and portions small, but most importantly the food is very unimpressive and borderline mediocre. I probably won’t be going back here. Way better Italian options in downtown and Cap hill.

First, I’ve come here a few times and it’s great for drinks at the bar. It’s a nice place to chat and have a cocktail date. The food is classic for the chef. I’m anti-pizza in a nice place like this… burrata, fococcia, mozarella and Artichokes are amazing. Chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful. Pasta of course perfection. I just am not inspired, but a great dinner.

Like many of the new Capitol Hill spots this place has a nice intimate urban feel to it. Our waiter was great and helped us pick an excellent bottle of wine to start and mozzarella app. There are about 5 mozzerella options but we went for the burrata and it was a good choice. Next we ordered margarita pizza and the prawn apps. We ordered simple and that’s what we got. I personally prefer more cheese on my pizza and less sauce. The prawns were grilled and served cold. I prefer fresh off the grill!

This is the second Ethan Stowell restaurant I’ve been too, and it does not disappoint! I came with a couple friends for a nice dinner out during Restaurant Week. I love the décor and concept of all of Ethan Stowell’s restaurants – the small friendly atmosphere is really quite nice. Our server was fantastic, even during the business of SRW dinnertime. Food was great, except the tonnarelli cacio e pepe(a pepper and cream pasta), was really large and the flavor was repetitive after a while. Otherwise, great restaurant and I will definitely be back… after I finish a round of all of Stowell’s restaurants.

This place has a really cool vibe inside, as it touts the feeling of a true Italian restaurant. The drinks here are good, I tried the pear cocktail which was very refreshing. The food was good, albeit the sides were not the absolute best. I ordered the steak which was cooked perfectly, and all my friends loved their pastas.

I expected good service at a place like this, but I received GREAT service. I think our server’s name was Peter. He really knew the menu in detail and was able to patiently make quality recommendations and answer our detailed questions. He was attentive and kind. We felt like we were VIP’s. Such professional service really enhanced our experience. Thank you! The food was great. The smoked mozzarella was flavorful and fresh. It was served with grilled bread, arugula, and I think tomato compote? We also had the porchetta pizza. The crust was thin and crispy and a little chewy — perfect! The veal saltimbocca was on the bone so it was flavorful and tender, and the prosciutto on top was crispy. The gnocchi was large, square, fluffy pillows with the cheese on top broiled. We had a great experience here. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place is ok. I’ve been to Italy a couple times and I have had some pretty good Italian food in my life. I ordered the ravioli with beets and roasted walnuts and it wasn’t cooked all the way. The edges were still hard. Also $ 14 for 6 pieces of ravioli decorated all fancy on a plate? I’m sorry… Italians love to eat and I was expecting way more food than that. I was left still hungry. I was pleased with my Tom Collins though :) Service is attentive and overall friendly. Our waiter gave my friend and I a free bag of pasta made in house which was nice! I’m excited to cook that soon. Our waiter was very pushy with the desert menu and just handed it to us trying to almost force us to order something without even asking if we were interested in desert first. Pretty awkward. I would come back if a friend really wants to go here, but overall I was not too impressed and won’t go out of my way to visit again.

Another one of Ethan Stowell’s restaurants. It serves Roman Italian food, which emphasizes simple fresh ingredients. We ordered: — Burrata: Slightly toasted bread with creamy, rich mozzarella. If you like cheese at all you should try it! — Calamari salad: calamari in a flavorful beet sauce — Golden potato flatbread: doesn’t look like it has much but the simple spices, cheese, and potato make a delectable flatbread. — Gnocchi: Looks like lasagna. Thought it was a little overly rich with cheese, almost like cheesy lasagna without meat. Would have liked more pasta to cheese ratio. — Oxtails: Tender fall off the bone meat. Delicious, though there was a huge chunk of fat too. — Veal: A large portion that is slightly crispy on the outside, but juicy and flavorful on the inside. Everything was delicious and I wouldn’t mind ordering them again. But the most outstanding was probably the mozzarella first and veal second. Solid service.

The most important thing to know about Rione — aside from it being unbelievable — is that it is Roman Italian food, which is different from what one might consider«typical» Italian food. One Roman specialty is fried artichokes; when in Rome, I had one that was an entire artichoke fried, and although delicious, it was difficult to eat and a bit greasy. The Carciofi alla Giudia at Rione used baby artichokes and, along with the aoili dipping sauce, were flavorful and not greasy at all. I can’t believe I didn’t start with the bread. I’m tempted to return and ask to just eat the bread dipped in the olive oil. But I digress… Another characteristic of Roman Italian food is its simplicity — the ingredients are fresh and high quality, so you don’t necessarily get seventeen different spices piled on top of each other. This is why the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe was so outstanding — basically pecorino romano cheese and black pepper, but what the chef DOES with it is unbelievable. The black pepper gives it a kick, so if you don’t like spicy, this may not be the dish for you — or perhaps ask whether they can do less pepper. But I loved it – even got a photo of my friend who ordered the same thing licking the bowl. I promised I wouldn’t post it – but trust me, it’s there… They have a wonderful wine selection; our choices were both delicious and extremely high quality. We also each had a simple green salad, which of course cancelled out all the carbs from the bread and the pasta. The salad was made of very fresh, high quality greens and vinaigrette dressing. All of which was simply a delivery system for the bread mentioned above. For dessert, we sampled two — one was a tiramisu(which I really enjoyed) and the other was a sort of lemon cheesecake with a rhubarb ginger preserve dressing. Very unique flavors that I enjoyed in moderation, but that we didn’t end up finishing(couldn’t have had anything to do with the four loaves of bread we’d already consumed…). The coffee was VERY strong, Italian espresso — if that’s your thing you’ll love it. I am sure that everything on the menu is just as amazing — but to be honest, if I return to Seattle anytime soon and end up going there, I’m likely to have the same tonnarelli I had the first time. What a treat of an evening!

This is my favorite Ethan Stowell restaurant so far… and I’ve been to his more notable ones Anchovies & Olives and How to Cook a Wolf too. The décor is in line with his other spots; rustic and open kitchen style. I loved that. Everything about my experience here was fantastic, from grabbing a happy hour cocktail at the bar, to the dining table, and service, etc. The four of us ordered the risotto balls, fennel sausage pizza and the lamb pasta. Surprisingly this was enough for us because everything was a good portion and SO tasty. I’m sure we could’ve ordered one more, but we were at a happy comfort level. My favorite was the lamb pasta and I’m not usually a lamb fan. The papardelle was chewy and perfectly cooked. The lamb was tender and fall off the bone juicy. Our server was so sweet, she grabbed us some house bread after our meal so we could soak up the sauce from the pasta. We didn’t fill up on bread beforehand so this was the perfect way to end the meal. We ordered the pizza because the table next to us got it, and we just had to get it. The visual representation was enough to sway us and we were so happy about our decision. Loved the zucchini on the pizza because it added a nice soft crunch to the cheesiness and meatiness of the sausage. The fried risotto balls were OK, it wasn’t what I was expecting, but it was still tasty. Overall, I would love to come back because the food and service was top notch! Parking in the area is a bit of a pain though.
