Just started my 14 year old in school of rock on guitar and the performance. This is the right place at the right time for us if you know what i mean! She loves it. Walks there and hangs out with friends in the lounge. They take away their phones for the 3 hours of rehearsal — love it.

My 13 year old son attended a week long summer camp and absolutely loved it. He has been taking guitar lessons for a few years — but this taught him things that never come up during a lesson. The spent the week preparing for a Friday performance, each working on several songs. The students learned so much about performance and shows, setting them up, practicing as a group, etc. Teachers were knowledgeable and accessible to the kids. Very willing to answer questions and work with them. The Friday concert was even more amazing than we could have imagined. The place was packed and the families and friends in attendance were enjoying it every bit as much as the kids. They had us pay to get in — so that the kids realize it’s an actual concert. If you have a son or daughter who plays an instrument and wants to see if they are interested in performing — this is the perfect experience. It’s worthwhile enough that we commuted from over an hour away every day for the week!

My son is 10 and says that taking guitar lessons at SoR is probably the best thing he has ever done. He started six months ago as a complete novice. A few months ago he joined the performance group and will be playing his first show(Devo) in January. He is thrilled. He not only loves the school and the format, his skills have improved tremendously. The performance group keeps him accountable since he has certain parts that he needs to perform with the band. He practices without being asked and honestly it has forced him to manage his time better when it comes to homework. It has even reduced his time on the computer. I get the impression that the kids really feel like they belong and it’s a cool place to be. My son’s level of maturity and confidence have noticeably improved. My son has liked all his instructors and the staff have been accommodating and very responsive. I should also mention that SoR was highly recommended to me by several families we know.

My boys love the chance to play music with other people during Rock Camp. The teachers are knowledgeable, experienced in bands, easy going and accommodating. My boys have also benefitted greatly from some private lesson time too. The concert at the end of the week under big lights and with a raucous parent/family audience and a few nerves of the musicians and the completely awesome music!!! It is an all time experience. It’s hard to tell who enjoys the experience more. If you have any doubts, sign up, no matter the experience level of musician.

Our son has been playing drums at School of Rock for over a year now, and we’re all thrilled — even more so now that they’ve moved to our neighborhood!(Check out reviews from the old location on Lake City Way — same great folks, same great program, great new building.) He started playing snare drum in his elementary school, and after a year of that, he had some basic skills(Mary had a little lamb), but the amount of progress he made in his first few months at SOR completely blew that away — he was playing Beatles songs like Ringo, and Nirvana like Dave Grohl. Clearly, the School of Rock approach works wonders! For beginners and advanced students alike, School of Rock is a great place to learn to play an instrument, play with other musicians, and put on a show that rocks the audience.
