I am a new fan. This place has been off my radar, so I was happy when a friend invited me for a short story reading during happy hour. The bar was not at all crowded when we arrived at five o’clock to hear our friend read some of her stories. During their happy hour all food and drinks are $ 2.00 off the price. We absolutely loved everything we ordered: mixed drinks from their cocktail menu, chicken nachos, pork tacos, chicken quesadillas, dessert. The chicken comes in three different sauces; the pork two, and you can select the kind of sauce you want. From reading the other reviews I can imagine that the lounge would be packed and possible problematic during an evening music event, but if you’re looking for a tasty meal before, say, an early movie at the Guild 45th, this would be an excellent place to try.

Great food The burgers are just the right size. Not too overwhelming but plenty of food. Drinks are great. Try the mermaid! Excellent summer drink. Prices are great. Atmosphere rocks! Bring your friends

If it’s Friday night and your not at the sea monster lounge your missing out. They have the best live music in Seattle and always have a decent crowd in attendance. They just remodeled the place so there’s a lot more room to move around which was a downfall a few months ago. On top of that they have cheap drinks that don’t break the bank which is nice when your checking your account the next day.

Had a great time here. The band was bananas and the crowd loved it. I wish there was something like this back home. No question I’d come back the next time in Seattle.

It’s much bigger after the remodel, but has no airflow. It’s like a sauna on a busy night.

This venue is amazing. The music with a measly $ 5 cover and good band, the jerk burger with its new flavors, my token IPA on tap – everything about this place is what a musician like me would love. I guess that’s why people in the know invited me here when I first visited Seattle and why I keep coming back since I have moved here. Don’t miss out, spend your hard-earned cash here and you won’t be disappointed.

We were unsure on where to go on New years Eve. Its very unassuming on the outside. I feel like its a best kept secret. Cheap cover charge. They have a nice little beer list. Seating is tucked away if you want to sit and enjoy the music. Two Dance Floors. Two bars and the beers are reasonably priced as well. Im definitely a fan and it was a great spot to ring in the new year.

Newly remodeled and expanded, the Seamonster is the go to place for live music in Seattle. Various genres, but local and touring Jazz and Funk are the mainstays. Great drinks and a full complement of brews. Service is genial and attentive. Food is excellent for an establishment of its size, everything is made fresh on the premises, catering towards New Orleans style. Ownership is decidedly local and hands on. Regular clientele is very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended! Friday house band is the incomparable Funky 2 Death(F2D)!

Seamonster is simply the best. Whether it’s the incredible Funky2Death playing on Friday nights, the reasonably priced drinks, the great food, or the friendly bartenders, it’s never a bad decision to go. Free music every night, and never any cover. Can’t wait for the long-awaited expansion to open up!

Friday. Live. Funk. Smiling faces and cheap drinks. Tight space but next door should be opening up in no time. So close to University City but not an ounce of college bar vibe. There’s no ventilation so it can get a little bodily in there. Like eastern Europe sauna bodily.

I am biased because I consider the folks who run this mighty fine establishment family. The Seamonster is a national treasure. Go there, prepare to be in close proximity to others, and enjoy yourself.

This place isn’t terrible, although I think they stopped serving sushi, which was the best part about coming here :(I never minded it here but everyone I brought thought it was«too hipster» for them, so it was hard to enjoy with my crowd I guess. Open mic night is pretty cool, even if the performers are only so-so, it’s still quite entertaining.

I love the Seamonster. I loved it just as it was. I loved the bands, the patrons, the staff, the cramped, somewhat«dive-bar’ ambiance; and, the psychedelic mermaids and monster on the wall. I enjoyed the sushi, loved the monster burger, the first remodel, and especially dancing two feet from the performers. Live music nightly and never a cover. So, now a major remodel. I am waiting for the reopening on tenterhooks, on pins and needles, with breath abated. Will success ruin the Seamonster??? It will be a much larger venue with a real stage and a dance floor. Larger bands with larger followings will be playing there. The remodel will be a drastic improvement, and I expect the very best possible outcome. I just hope I can still find a place to park.

Down to earth and inviting atmosphere/friendly workers, even the bouncer/security is pleasant. Pros 1) no cover, reasonably priced tasty food 2) friendly bartenders/professional staff 3) live music 7 days/week typically at 10 4) safe neighborhood, good location 5) They’re undergoing a remodle, so space will be bigger and more efficient. But it’s taking forever. Cons 1) Going to bathroom can be a chore after 10pm on Fri/Sat nights due to crowd and space. 2) wait time for drinks can get long on Fri/Sat night’s after 10pm, buts that’s understandable, it’s their busiest nights. * overall, I love and appreciate this place.

This place was funky. We came in before the music started, a funk band, and enjoyed a beer at one of the bench tables in the back. The layout of this place is strange and almost feels like they had cut up an old building to make this spot. I’ll try to explain. When you walk in its a normal bar area, a bit small with a few tables lining the wall. If you grab your drink and walk up the couple of stairs to the back you’re in what’s almost a long hallway with benched along the wall. A great spot to sit and listen to the band, but not really see them. The other side of the hall is a brick wall, about one persons length away with arches cut into it all the way down. So basically, from where we were sitting we could see the drummer and bassist. My the guitar, brass, or keyboardist One the band started up this place was packed to the brim. So if you don’t like squeezing through a crowd in a tight space you may want to avoid. Good beer selection. Fast bar service for how packed it was. If you like music and dancing(in place) this is a cool spot to check out. There was no cover. Not sure if that’s always the case, but definitely a bonus.

Best spot in Seattle on a Friday night. If you enjoy funk music come in on a Friday and enjoy Funky2Death. This band is truly a special part of this city. The bar provides a great atmosphere. It’s small, and packed when busy. You’ll be standing shoulder to shoulder on Friday night. Other nights of the week not as much. But you can still come in for some good music, a good crowd, and a drink.

We all need funk in our lives, and this place serves up an all-you-can-eat funk buffet. My mind was blown from the moment I walked in, the vibe was electric and the band was on point. The layout of the bar almost belongs in Belltown, as it is very long and narrow. What this allows for is the unique opportunity to be close to the band, regardless of when you show up. A great spot to take a few friends from out of town, but I wouldn’t go with more than four people as you will have a hard time staying together. No cover when I went on a Saturday. Will be back very soon!

Ray: After dropping off a stunning piece of Josh’s artwork at a private Capital Hill art walk, Josh and I kicked around where we would eat dinner. We were thinking ramen or possibly Thai, but decided instead on the Sea Monster Lounge on 45th street in Wallingford(our haunting ground). The Sea Monster Lounge has been open for 11 years and is primarily known for live music seven days a week. They hold open mics that attract a bevy of eclectic and talented musicians. Josh had been there on a few occasions for the music, but had never eaten there. Last night we were not looking for live music, we were there to test the kitchen. We arrived just after 5:00 and they had just opened. The inside was surprisingly small with interesting murals on the walls of a giant squid and a mermaid. Being the only customers in the place, we sat at the bar and were greeted by David the bartender who is a six year veteran of the Sea Monster and a musician in his own right. David got our drinks queued right up and presented us the(rather disappointing) menus. I was hoping for, perhaps more substantial entrees, but the offerings were pretty much burgers, although there were salads and appetizers as well. I ordered the Monster Burger(it seemed appropriate). It didn’t take long to prepare. David brought us our surprisingly well plated burgers with fries. Since I always eat with my eyes first, I was pleasantly surprised. It looked fantastic, and smelled great. I started to think we were in for a treat. The burger was one of the best I have purchased for quite a while. A perfectly toasted bun dressed the ample patty and the house ketchup captured my imagination. As we ate, the bartender David did what good bartenders do. Not just serve drinks and move on, but he became part of our evening and part of our conversation. I quite enjoyed his input and his company. This is where I learned that we were there WAY before they get busy. With live music starting at 10:30PM, they don’t get real busy until after midnight. We were the proverbial«breakfast crowd». We found out that the Sea Monster is expanding into the space next door. That would be great for them and provide a much roomier establishment for their regular music-heads. I hope they also expand their menu selections and give that cook of theirs a chance to put them on the culinary map. I think they have the talent to pull that off. Even though the Sea Monster Lounge is a music joint more than a food joint, I award them four stars for such a great burger as well as a bright future and potential. I am sure I will come back some day and see how the new place is coming along. Josh: This place has a bit of a «dive-bar» feel, but the light was low and the music was easy jazz, very comfortable place to dine. My first visit of this place was back in June during open mic night. I honestly thought it was a bit divey, they boasted live music 7 days a week, never a cover. The way it’s set up I imagined a bunch of late-30-somethings(I’m a late-30-something) crammed onto what might have been the dance floor while bad pulsing house music thumped and everyone sweat and tried to hook up with one another. In my imaginings the floor would be swollen with a lot of popped collar polo shirts, flat-brimmed baseball caps and cleavage. But when I actually breezed in for some live music, it was extremely tasty jazz, good drinks and an overall relaxing atmosphere. My girlfriend and I return regularly to see a band called Sound Dialogue every first Saturday. I’ve also performed for open-mic night once, and plan to again very soon. The place is a real asset to the neighborhood. As far as our visit Thursday night goes, we got there right as it opened and were the only people in there(besides the bar tenter) for the duration of our stay. We were informed they normally have a late night crowd, which is understandable, the music doesn’t start till 10. We sat at the bar, I had a BBQ bacon hamburger with fries and the house-made ketchup which was a nice slightly-spice touch. The food was unexpectedly delicious, and after 2 gin and tonics the bill came to $ 12. Did I mention the fantastic happy hour deals? Thanks, Sea Monster. Friendly conversation by the bar tender, great food, wonderful atmosphere, no complaints from me. I’m going 4 out of 5 stars.
