Went to see Elizabeth Gilbert last night at Benaroya Hall with several friends. The podium was placed on the very far left side of the stage. Since we were sitting in the left balcony we could not see her ATALL! REALLY!!! It’s a huge stage is there some logical reason not to place the podium more center stage? She was great but I could have stayed home and listened to a podcast instead of paying for a seat and parking. Very disappointing!

I bought my parents tickets to a SAL event, and I had some confusion about where I should get the tickets mailed. I emailed their box office, and their customer service was prompt, friendly, and generous. They even offered to include a holiday gift message to my parents when they mailed them out, and they clearly care about the Seattle arts community. That may not sound that special, but it made the hectic Christmas shopping process a whole lot easier, and it gave me confidence that the money I spent on the tickets was money well spent. I can’t speak to how the events themselves are actually run, but if their stellar customer service is any indication, I’m sure they are delightful!

I enjoy the benefits of time and effort put into the selection of lectures at SAL. I attended the Mira Nair lecture(admittedly, I am a HUGE fan of hers) and was so pleased with the event. Tremendous bonus that you may submit questions to lecturer via usher system. Fair student discount on tickets. Accessible on-line ticket ordering system(they offer over the phone, but don’t bother as it’s too difficult to get them on the phone). I find the emcee/interviewer a little pretentious and banal, but hey this ISSERIOUS intellectual fare(joke!). I’m a fan!
