Sound Express

I received an email from another Unilocal user who said they were considering hiring this company until they read these reviews and were told by Sound Express that all of the negative reviews were posted by competing DJ’s. That is completely false. Just to clarify I am not a competing DJ, I was a customer.

I’d like to respond to Mark’s recent comment on my review of their company.
In short: I’m in shock that he is still under the impression that nothing major went wrong at my wedding reception and that he claims he attempted to contact me with attempts to make it right. This did not happen.
We had a few rounds of email communication that started with Stacy emailing me to congratulate us on our marriage and saying how great she heard our event went (while making no mention of her being in the hospital, no apology for the last minute chaos, etc. NOTHING.) I wrote her back to say that the event actually was incredibly stressful due to Sound Express’s failings and detailed the high level things that went wrong. She responded back denying anything went wrong to which I responded that if she and her company were not willing to do what was right and give us our money back, I did not want any future contact as I was sick of dealing with this situation. That was the end of our communication. (Mark, I have the emails if you’d care to review them again)
I also followed up with the director of c89.5fm who referred Mark and Stacy (Sound Express) to us in the first place and explained what had happened. He promised to follow up and he later called to tell me that he’d read the Unilocal reviews, spoken to other clients, and had come to the decision that Sound Express would no longer be doing business or receiving referrals from the radio station.
Mark and Stacy: you are both very nice people and I never want to pose undue stress on small business owners. Having worked in a small company myself, I know the value of good customer service, a good quality product/​experience, and the importance of happy Unilocal reviews. You are not being honest with yourselves about what really happened in this situation. You say in your comment that you went out and found one of your best DJs as a replacement but can you honestly tell me that your best DJ is a high school student who said he was Stacy’s son? Again, I felt so bad for the guy because he clearly was out of his element and very very stressed due to minimal knowledge of how to work the equipment. Mark, you yourself were at the reception and did nearly nothing to help this poor kid out.
And also, you were out 25% of the balance at the end of the day. I paid you the deposit at the time of booking and half the remaining balance at our second meeting. You did not receive the last quarter of your fee due to the complete debacle you caused.
Again, Unilocal readers… please don’t just read my review. There is not a single review over 1 star. Every company has an off day but if every single person has 1 star things to say… that’s an indication that there is a problem.
Mark and Stacy, your response to my review and your apparent lack of accountability is deeply troubling and hurtful. There was an easy way to make the situation right which was to apologize, own the problem, and refund our money. But you did not do that so I felt compelled to review you and warn other potential customers. I sincerely hope that you treat future clients with more respect than you have treated me.

First off, just look some where else for a DJ. Marc, the owner is terrible at running a business. From the begging of our arrangement, things just didn’t seem quite right. Every time that I would call about plans, he would remember who I was, if i made a deposit ect and would always send me new quotes, so he is super unorganized. Finally when we were going to get a refund we started to work with Stacy who is a very nice person to deal with, but also a little scattered.
We Made a song list, planned out the time line of the whole wedding which was fine, but the day of the wedding I called to switch a song and she confirmed the time to be there was an hour after the wedding was to start, so unless i made that last minute song switch, she would have been an hour late to the wedding. She did do pretty well on the first part of the wedding, but played the wrong song coming back down the isle. She played all of our main songs correctly such as first dance, father/​daughter ect but that’s about all. No one heard her announce the money dance or got people out of their seats so we ended up with about 60 bucks. She also didn’t play ANY of our requested songs, or the types of music we requested so most people didn’t want to come dance. All and all it went ok, but i would not recommend this company to anyone

It was to my great disappointment that I worked with this company on a wedding this past weekend.
The bride and groom were planning their wedding remotely and hired Sound Express to DJ their Vashon Island wedding. I’d not previously worked with this company, and never will again. In short, this list goes:
DJ showing up 20 minutes late and missing critical equipment for the ceremony microphone and speakers. We sent one of the guests across the island searching for said missing items (which he FOUND) but the equipment still did not work — guests could not hear a word of the ceremony. The DJ, parked right by the ceremony, accidentally honked his horn mid-​vows, as well as had another truck drive up to talk with him about the «missing equipment».
At the reception, the DJ was incredibly late in getting set up, and missed the couple’s entrance song. Dinner music, when finally played, went fine… but as the first dance moment approached, the DJ had slunk off to go have a smoke break with strangers about ¼ mile down the road. After wrangling him back to the dance floor, he fumbled and futzed around with the equipment he could hardly work, continued to make the speakers squeak and squawk with loud sounds, and ultimately could not get the rest of the dance music to play. The couple had their first dance to a friend singing… as it was all they could do, and another friend whipped out a guitar to keep things moving. When music FINALLY started working, the DJ would not remain on the dance floor to oversee the shabby equipment and songs kept being interrupted.
The music and sound aspect of this wedding was nothing short of disaster. I can only just bless that couple for keeping an amazingly cool head and upbeat attitude toward the entire thing. They were so wonderful and deserved sooooo much better…
