Sound Spirits Distillery

AMAZING place to venture over to. The owner was very open to questions on the distilling process, different spirits, etc. their gin is amazing, very clean and crisp flavors, highly recommend it!

Yes, so there’s a reason this is Seattle’s oldest micro distillery, cause they’ve figured out their flavors the best… Really you have to go taste for yourself, but here’s the highlight. The Cacao liqueur was so surprisingly flavorful without being sweet. I’m definitely getting a bottle from total wine. When we were there, they were working on a Ancho chilie liqueur… OMG… it was SO GOOD. I’m so excited for the to settle on their recipe, he said spring of 2016, it should be ready. I’ll be back then to taste and buy!!!
Keep an eye out, they are going to move locations soon to a better space.

Discovered this gem next to a furniture consignment store. Friendly kitty who keeps a careful eye out for the building and greats guests inside.
Tasting was fun and the spirits are worth collecting. We’ll be adding them to our selection for guests that visit. Happy to add this to «places to bring out-​of-​town» guests.

Wow, unbelievably good. I don’t normally drink much hard liquor straight. I went into their little shop and paid a few bucks for a small taste of everything they had available. I was completely taken back by how enjoyable everything tasted. I’m 60 years old and only after this experience will I drink straight hard liquor, it was so very good, so very unique, and so easy to drink straight. Worth every penny for their bottled alcohol.

It was our first time here in Seattle & I found this distillery on Unilocal.I absolutely fucking loved it! The gin was hands down my favorite. It was slow so we had a great experience. I even bought a shirt to take back to the bay with me! When they start selling online, I promise to be their first customer

This is why I love randomly walking into places and checking them out! We were in the neighborhood and my friend randomly saw a distillery. I encouraged us to come in and look, because why not?
They might’ve been closing soon, but the sign said open and we opted for the tasting. $ 5 for the flight of 6; ¹⁄₃ oz pours maybe? A good sampling size, and Bradley was absolutely informative at my request that he «educate us» because «this is not really my thing.»
Super cool distillery, and the cacao liquor was so amazing in particular. Everything else was very smooth and quality, honestly, and I say this to the best of my abilities as someone who likes her alcohol well complemented (ahem, hidden) by fruity flavors and sugars. It was just all so incredibly easy drinking on their own that it surprised me. My friend knew more and definitely loved love loved our random excursion there.
They’re releasing whiskey soon perhaps?

We visited the distillery yesterday, and it was a lovely time! Steven was great, and his explanations of all their offerings during the tasting was most helpful. As I expected, the Depth Cacao (the one made with Theo Cacao nibs) was my favorite, but all of the spirits were interesting, tasty, and very drinkable. Not only are their spirits delicious, but I really like that they’re also quite affordable. I love buying local products, and this is just one more great one to add to the list. (How lucky are we, Seattle?)
And how could I forget Mr. C.H.O? A friendly and adorable greeter, and endeared Sound Spirits to me even more!
I really look forward to trying their whiskey when it comes out!

As a part of Unilocal’s Got Spirits Week, Andy and I snagged a couple of spots for a tour of Sound Spirits.
There are so many distilleries in the United States, and when the majority of the small batch distilleries come from Seattle, it is hard to know which liquors you’ll love and which ones will be slightly flavored ethanol.
As a part of their tour, we were given a sample of their Vodka, Gin, Cacao Liquor, Menthe Liquor, as well as Aquavit.
We aren’t big drinkers, but our favorites were the Aquavit (surprisingly), the Cacao and the Menthe Liquors. The Cacao Liquor is made with Theo Chocolate cocoa nibs! We also learned that they aren’t technically «Crème de» because of their alcohol level.
The tour was informative from a Boeing Engineer’s perspective, who is also the owner and head distiller! — which was seriously fascinating. We were walked through their distillery, and while they were distilling out of their copper stills when we were there, they had this incredible «cannon» in the back, that I wish we could have seen in action.
It was a nice space, they offered a wide variety of liquors, PLUS they have a cat on the premises. His name is Mr. CHO (Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen). He’s super friendly too.

This is my first distillery tour I think I have ever been on. The distillery was small and quaint but pretty cool. Our guy that Took us through was extremely knowledgeable and made good eye contact. After I was done with the tour I felt like I would be able to start up my own in my basement LOL. The tasting overall was okay I really liked the Val of silence. It was extremely tasty and I will most likely be going back to get a bottle. Thank you to Unilocal for allowing us to go on this to her. It was truly an amazing experience and I would probably do it again.

Unilocal gave us the opportunity to do a tour and tasting here. Marc M. Greeted us when we arrived and we had to check in with him as well. We all received a neat Unilocal flask too. The tour was about 30 minutes long and our guide who also makes the alcohol was very knowledgeable. This was my first distillery tour and it was a unique experience. I don’t like or drink alcohol but my husband does and this was more for him than me. During the tasting we all received a Unilocal shot glass to sample all the alcohol. Some were quite strong & flavorful. I liked the chocolate and vow of silence.

Came here last weekend for a Unilocal event. We got to sample a variety of their products. My favorite would have to be the cacao liqueur-​you can’t go wrong with chocolate and alcohol together! We also got a review of their facility and their equipment. It was interesting to see how they made their products.

Lots of street parking available. Tasting room is bigger than most distilleries. This distillery has many products: Vodka, Gin, Aquavit, Cacao liqueur, Menthe liqueur, & Depth Vow of Silence liqueur. Distillery tour was informative.

I can now proudly say I’ve visited the oldest craft distillery in Seattle! Ha! Pride aside, I’m incredibly glad I had the chance to tour the establishment and taste their offerings as part of a Unilocal event. Our tour guide (one of the employees) was very knowledgeable, and explained the distilling processes for the various spirits in an easily comprehensible yet thorough manner. I definitely learned a lot about the whole distilling process.
Now, to move on to the tasting session. If I take a long, hard look at the most delicious liquors I’ve ever had a chance to sample, Sound Spirits’ vodka and cacao liqueur definitely make the cut. The vodka is smooth and silky with great flavour (bye bye, Grey Goose), the gin and aquavit made me reconsider my negative predispositions towards them, and the cacao and menthe liqueurs made me want a goddamn Grasshopper right on the spot. Seriously fantastic alcohol is made and sold here, and the lowest prices in town are right in the distillery. They also sell a whole range of syrups and bitters which can be kind of hard to find at a run-​of-​the-​mill liquor store. I know where I’ll be coming the next time I need to restock my bar!

I like that I keep on trying gin that doesn’t straight up taste like juniper berries. They make a great gin and vodka. Came here for a tasting and they were great! They also had liquors like cacao, mint, and ginger and my favorite would be the cacao. Not too sweet and didn’t taste artificial. The only thing I didn’t like was the aquavit (sp?) which they warned us taste like licorice and it totally did. I’m sure there are people who would love it.

Unilocal gave about 30 of us an opportunity to check out Sound Spirits, which happens to be Seattle’s first craft distillery after Prohibition ended.
Sound Spirits makes several different spirits: Ebb + Flow Vodka, Ebb + Flow Gin, Sound Spirits Aquavit, Sound Spirits Old Tom Gin, Depth Cacao, Depth Menthe, and Depth — Vow of Silence.
It was a pleasure to get to sample each of these spirits and to see the process in which each are created. The tour of the distillery lasted about 30 minutes, and was very informative. I had never been to a distillery, so a lot of the information flew right over my head, but just to see the process was a very cool experience.
I really enjoyed my time at Sound Spirits, and couldn’t help but buy a bottle of the Ebb + Flow Vodka, which they sell for $ 37. I was thisclose to buying the Ebb + Flow Gin, so that may have to be my next purchase the next time I stop in.

Wow! I attended a tour & tasting as part of a recent Unilocal event, what a treat! We were able to sample vodka, 2 types of gin, aquavit, cacao, and menthe. All were delicious, and I’m excited about future cocktails!
The facility is small, and the tour is brief. They are happy to answer questions and explain the distilling process (pretty fascinating). All products are made with top notch ingredients (for example, the cacao is made with Theo chocolate nibs) and you can really taste great flavors. A definite treat both for those who enjoy fancier varieties of alcohol, or those who are brand new to drinking.
An entertaining (and distracting) companion throughout the tour was Mr. C2HO (resident cat).

This place was the first and has been around the longest for a reason. Amazing product!
The tour of the facilities is informative and thorough, you’ll even get to see some *secret* equipment that is involved in their process. There’s a black cat that wanders around, and it crossed my path several times but I’m here typing this so I feel okay about it.
I would not have realized that this little place could make so many different types of alcohol and all of them being really distinctive and tasty. I’m no gin lover, but I figure I should have one in the house for when I entertain. This place was the perfect place for that. Their dessert drinks are also freakin outstanding and dangerously easy to sip. Will make a good party gift. Come on in and purchase directly from the source. it’ll be the best price you can find and you might even find something else you like.

As one of my last acts in Seattle — before I move — six of my great friends and I went to Sound Spirits. I’d never been to a craft distillery and wasn’t sure what to expect but now I am bummed I won’t have access to Sound Spirits in California!
The owner gave us a tour of the back room where the distilling and production occurs. It’s definitely a small business — the owner said he makes a measly $ 14-​$ 17 profit per bottle, thanks to Washington’s inhospitable taxes for liquor. Interestingly enough, to have a craft distillery license most of the ingredients must be from WA State, so the operation is truly local.
After the tour we enjoyed a (free) tasting of about 7 liquors. It sounds impossible but I really mean it when I say all were excellent and easily among the best liquor I’ve ever tasted! The owner really pays attention to detail and each tasting was a cocktail of wonderful flavors (the Ebb+Flow Gin edged out as my favorite).
All in all, very highly recommended! Go support a small business and enjoy excellent liquor while you do it!

This is an excellent distillery! They have several kinds of spirits that they make here along with vodka. The aquavit and gin varieties are amazing but what really knocked my socks off was the Crème De Menthe liqueur they make. It doesn’t just have mint in it but spearmint, cardamon and a few other ingredients that resonates mint!
We were so impressed we bought a bottle of their awesomely smooth vodka.
The tasting room is small but in exchange for that it is very one on one and friendly!
They have a small store here too selling shakers, chocolate, cards and what not.
Definitely a wonderful place!

Sound Spirits is a small distillery that makes vodka, two gins, aquavit, and three liqueurs (cocoa, mint, herbal). My aunt saw the aquavit (a Scandanavian herbal liquor) at a liquor store, bought it because it had an octopus on the bottle before realizing they’re based a few miles from her house and you can go in for tastings and a tour!
The place is very small, but you can’t miss the awesome octopus arms on the wall outside the building! When we entered, the owner greeted us and gave us (free!) samples of all of the drinks. It was probably the best vodka I’ve ever had. Much more interesting than what I’m used to! In fact, everything was really good. No losers here!
We also got a tour of the distillery. Tiny! With Glass jugs on the floor to catch the alcohol after distillation. I’ve never been to a distillery before, so I have no idea what they normally look like, but it was really cool to see it on a small scale.
I ended up buying a bottle of the Old Tom Gin, an aged gin, which I’ve taken to drinking with an ice cube and a squeeze of lemon. It’s complex enough that you don’t need to add much to it! I was really tempted to buy the regular gin and the cocoa liqueur, but I didn’t want to carry too many bottles home with me on the plane!
They also sell glassware (with and without their logo), bitters, and an array of bar ware and octopus things.
A great place! I hope they distribute to Kansas some day!
