Stay Tuned – The Band

I covered a small bit of how much I adore this band in my first WaterWheel review. Had I been smart enough to make a review link for them, or realized they had one, I would have wrote this sooner.
So, here we go.
I know what you’re probably thinking. 80’s TV theme songs? That rock?
That is what you should be thinking, but that is what you get with Stay Tuned.
My personal favorite is Sesame Street, but there isn’t one I don’t like. Gilligan’s Island is pretty damn awesome. It’s fun remembering the shows, singing along and hearing how well they’ve remastered them into rock songs.
I’ve shared their CD with both my kids and my mom to rave reviews. That’s a pretty large demographic they are pleasing!
The guys in Stay Tuned have electrifying stage presence. They are having a damn good time up there, and they want you to have a good time too.
But more importantly, they are all really cool, stand up guys. Through Unilocal,events, shows, and our many visits to the Water Wheel, I’ve been lucky to have the chance to hang out with these guys in their «everyday lives». Awesome human beings, each and every one of them.

This is my brother Will’s band. Let me put it simply, they have a rendition of Gilligan’s Island where they mix the words to Gilligan, and the Music to Iron Maiden’s «Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner» and that «Come sail away» song from Styx.
Oh my god it rocks. I have been to a punk concert they played, and all these young too cool for school punkers were wondering whether they should like T.V. themes that rock, all of a sudden started jumping up and down to Iron F’ing Maiden. They were bouncing and bumping and putting each other’s eyes out with spiky hair.
Hells Yeah!
Then the grand finale, hard rock Golden Girls. I almost messed myself.

Is it bad form to review your own «Local Flavor»? Does it demonstrate a bloated ego to talk about how «rad», «magnificent», and «dashingly handsome» oneself is?
Of course it does. But we’re on the internet. Where everyone is an attention whore. And I, my dear reader, am no different.
Sure I play keyboards (electric piano, organ, keytar) and sing lead in Stay Tuned and, therefore, have a major conflict of interest in this review, but I humbly submit to you that we truly do rock. Really. If we were on the Tyra show, we’d be «Rock with a SNAP!». In addition to providing original, scorching, epic rock renditions of your favorite TV themes (like Cheers, Silver Spoons, Charles in Charge, etc.), there are several unique items I would like to point out about Stay Tuned:
1. We are the loudest band in existence without a guitar. Scientific Fact: We are so loud that our earplugs wear earplugs.
2. We are, collectively, the second tallest band in all of Seattle. We were the tallest until Stu replaced Don in early 2007. This brought us down a notch. But what Stu lacks in height, he more than makes up for in back hair. If, however, you need proof of our massive height, you need not go further than Tacoma where, to this day, there still exists a large «head-​print» with my name on it above the ceiling of the stage at «Cloud 9». For the record, we are still, however, the heaviest rock trio in Seattle with me gaining weight to compensate for the weight lost with the Stu /​Don replacement.
3. We are the only band in the world with an Eddie VanHalen painted keytar. I don’t have any actual proof to back this up, but I’m pretty sure no one else on earth is dumb enough to violate a classic keytar.
4. We are the only band to get a girl topless by playing the theme from «Airwolf». It was either the thumping bass tones or the thought of Jan-​Michael Vincent that brought it on. We’ll never know.
5. We were once described as «…like sausage …» because «…everyone likes sausage!»
I do hope that this review has enlightened you even just a little about the incredible wonder that is Stay Tuned — The Ultimate Epic Rock Experience. I feel that if we keep working at it, putting in the hours, time, and hard work — we have the potential to, some day, be the next Color Me Badd. I honestly believe that.
