Great old world charm,
Super refreshing to get help at a local hardware store. I have a bath tub repair company in Seattle and we are able to give good service to our customers because stone way hardware gives us great service. Big huge thanks to the swh crew

Stoneway Hardware has a surprisingly huge selection for their relatively small location.
I’ve been looking for workgloves at those big huge home improvement stores, but they only offered 1 – 2 pairs to choose from. At Stoneway Hardware they have maybe 15 – 20 kinds of gloves in different colors, grips, and material. No matter what you’re looking for, my guess is that you’ll be surprised at the variety of options you’ll find here.

I’ve been in and out of here several times this week, and everyone’s always friendly and helpful. They don’t effuse the gruff hardware store attitude I’m used to, which is very nice.
Their selection is pretty good for the size of the store, and, as their logo states, they are the fastenerds, and have any fastener you could imagine.
They are a bit pricey, but that’s what comes with a real hardware store, as opposed to the walmart-​like Lowe’s or Home Depot. I think it’s worth it to keep their business and their attitudes alive (unlike the guy in Lowe’s who openly told me he had no idea about… well, anything.).
They even do paint, so they can take care of everything!

I had 4 keys cut & 2 worked. Went back today & they recut the 2 that worked & gave me 2 more free to be sure I ended up with at least 2 working ones. Great service ! Thanks

I don’t mind paying a little more here for the convenience, but when I can’t find something and want some help. Don’t ask the five guys standing around the front and behind the cash register. They are more interested in talking with each other. To get help you have to stand and wait for their conversation to finish, then try to send you to an isle to find it yourself. When I tell him I looked there, he says it could be at another place if we have it. I said ‘can you show me’ he walks over with a soft drink in his hand. Very Unprofessional. I’ll take the extra time to go to Home Depot next time.

Earlier this month, I broke the track on my cabinet. The screw ripped out of the plasterboard side. What to do? Go to Stoneway where they have an endless supply of fasteners. At the front counter was a gentleman I learned later (I called back) was Keith. I showed him what I had, explained the problem as I perceived it. He LISTENED and then offered the option that might work first. As he explained it and we
travelled across the store looking for the right parts, he let me know (I don’t remember the exact words, that I could do the repair, that it wasn’t really difficult, but in no way did I feel diminished by his counsel. I spent many years travelling to shops with my mother for parts for my farmer father, and I know implicitly the different attitudes of the men who run the shops. Stoneway men are helpful and kind.
Of course, this was not my first experience at Stoneway. But it is indicative of why I go back all the time. There are other hardware stores, but none like Stoneway.

I’m lucky enough to have had Stoneway Hardware be my neighborhood hardware store for almost 20 years. I am a life-​long designer builder, comfortable making things in many different materials. The fact that I live essentially equidistant between this store and Hardwick’s is something that I have to mentally slap myself about every once in a while just to make sure I don’t start taking this insanely privileged position for granted.
Stoneway is the place for deep stock and range on fasteners, as well as plumbing, painting, house maintenance basics, good garden stuff, and tools up to medium and reasonably high quality (and much more; I’m not going to write an essay here). They’re not afraid to manage huge numbers of supplier accounts in order to stock the righteous items.
However, If you want deep range in cabinet hardware, latches, hinges, or tools for the true connoisseur, machinist, jointer, then Hardwick’s is the better choice. Need to see four kinds of laminated steel razor-​sharp Japanese marking knives? Five sizes of Starrett machinist’s squares? a top notch swedish bow saw in two sizes with three kinds of replacement blades next to a jewelers saw with blades so fine you need a loupe to see the teeth? Hand-​hammered carving knives from a forge on Waldron Island… Hardwick’s.
But the Stoneway crew are wry and helpful, and will also leave you alone when you need to stare at stuff and do some «hardware store design work» while pondering choices. That said, I do think they should hire some savvy women (Hardwick’s has them beat on this score) and get the rest of the crew some training in how to always avoid talking down to women customers… not just sometimes avoid it. but always.
Yes, sometimes the price of a few items in a bag at Stoneway will make you cringe, depending on just what aisles you’ve shopped, but you can reacquire levity by weighing that price against what it would mean to lose this irreplaceable resource.

I’ve been to this store three times since buying a house in Fremont in 2011. All three times I went alone, seeking help for minor issues, and all three times I left nearly in tears because of how poorly I was treated.
I can not believe how condescending they are towards women. And this was not just an isolated incident, since it happened each time and with different male employees.
I just got home from the third — and final — trip there and was going to send my husband back instead, since they were entirely unhelpful and I didn’t get what we needed, but I don’t want to give them any more of our business. We’ll go out of our way up to Tweedy & Popp in Wallingford or Greenwood Hardware instead.
I’m so disappointed in this store that it’s what finally inspired me to sign up on Unilocal,just so I could write this review.
Avoid Stoneway Hardware.

Thinking outside the box! I called in and spoke with a nice guy named Joel. We talked at length about cordless drill vs regular drills. He was very helpful and patient with all my questions. I finally came to a conclusion of what I wanted to buy so I told him I would be stop by in a little while. He asked if I needed to use this drill today. I actually did need to use it today so I asked why he asked. Apparently all the drills battery’s are dead when since the sit so long after manufacturing, he offered to open the box up and charge the battery’s so when I came to pick it up I could just take it home right away and use it! I tell you the big box stores would never even think to offer this to a customer! I love stoneway and do all my hardware shopping their! GO STONEWAY TEAM! Also they have a sick Seahawks tribute on the side of the building!

Service is spotty, and clerks aren’t at the cash registers when needed. Limited on stock; needed contact paper, but their selection was scant; that’s ok, because I found what I needed, including help, at Freddy’s. Apparently they have a minimum on debit purchases, too. The patron in front of me was encouraged to buy a candy bar so his total hit the minimum. Why not just change an ATM surcharge? Guess that’s not as lucrative? When it was finally my turn to check out, the cashier asked ME how much the wood screws I was purchasing cost. Isn’t it HIS job to know or to check? Men. I’ve experienced better and I won’t be back.

This is literally my first Unilocal review ever. I felt compelled to write this after my experience this evening. I am absolutely blown away by Stoneway’s STELLAR customer service. I purchased a lock box today, installed it, and it turned out to be defective (no biggie). I called in to hopefully get a refund or exchange, and the gentleman offered to drive out to my house and help remove the defective part and deliver a replacement (WHAT???). 15 mins later, my problem was solved, and I had a functioning replacement lock box. The guy was super nice and very helpful. Again, I am absolutely blown away at this customer service! This would have never happened if I had purchased the product from Home Depot, Lowes, or any chain hardware store!!! Just want to thank you guys again for making my experience the best possible. I will be back again, without a doubt. Sam Rivera helped me on the phone, he was super helpful! I forgot the name of the gentleman who made the house call, but major kudos to him as well!

Knowledgeable staff. Wide-​ranging stock. Reasonable prices. Independent.

So, here’s the deal. *I* am no hardware store junkie nor fanatic, but my Mr. Fixit boyfriend is very much so. And according to him, Stoneway Hardware takes care of his hardware needs the best. The man will find any old excuse to go to Stoneway — certain sizes of screws and fasteners (Stoneway has tons, all properly categorized according to size in neat little bins); painting accessories (but no paint); even tampons! (Well, no tampons, but the Walgreens up the street definitely has some! And if you’re creative enough I’m sure Stoneway Hardware will have the parts for you to construct your own.)
He even loves these el cheapo reading glasses they have in this cardboard bin up at the front. I’m usually one for running to the Home Depot anytime I have a home fixit emergency, but after frequenting this place several times I admit I’m impressed by the selection and proximity to my house. Support your local businesses!

hands down the best hardware store in Seattle. I build custom cars and motorcycles and they ALWAYS have what I need for nuts, bolts and fasteners as well as a huge selection of odd accessories, chemicals, adhesives, etc.
If that is not good enough to find in a local hardware store, they are always willing to share the music playlist (which is always awesome) so not only do I get what I need for my build. but I leave with new music to play in the shop while working.

A cute little neighborhood joint with funny and helpful staff. I want to give them four stars cuz they are small (well…everything is small compared to Home Depot) but they have never failed to have what I need and they have great money saving pointers when I am buying some stupide expensive thing that I could use a far less expensive item that does the trick. They also rent tools, carpet cleaners and small hard working children. Or at least two of the three. Just seeing if you were paying attention.

These guys really saved me when they agreed to sell me the display model. The bin was empty and I was desperate. No more Home Depot for me!

For the location this place is huge! and they are very well organized, helpful and have a sweet kangaroo pelt on the wall.
