I live in the area and have tried most of the Vietnamese restaurants around. This place has the BEST tofu bahn mi sandwich of all of them and it’s so cheap I can’t figure out why there isn’t a line out the door. The sandwich is only $ 3 bucks. The place is nothing fancy but if you need a quick fresh snack or meal, stop by and grab it here!

I have walked past this place a thousand times and little did I know I was bypassing a gold mine! My boyfriend’s co-worker had a birthday party and his wife brought out a very nicely decorated cake with fruit on top. I didn’t think too much of it because it was just going to be another slice of cake in my eyes. As soon as I put my first bite in my mouth my eyes popped open. It was magical. So light and soft with excellent flavor. The strawberries were a perfect taste and texture. I wish I would have known about this place for my Nana’s 88th birthday. Next time I need a cake. I’m making a beeline right for this place.

The Tofu banh mi is the bomb dot com! I should start by saying that I’m white but my husband is Vietnamese. So we eat a lot of Vietnamese take out because I can’t cook it. This is the best sandwich shop we’ve found in the Seattle. The service was also very nice which I don’t always get being non Vietnamese haha. The baked goods were also really good. So happy to find a place with good Vietnamese sandwiches. And even soft bread!

Great place for humbow and Vietnamese sandwiches. Try their sausage and cheese buns. They are the best in the ID.

Ham bon mi sandwich for breakfast. Price is right. Vietnamese coffee is awesome. I love the way it is made. They have breads and pastry to go. They also offer cakes.

And on to the 4th spot on our tour of every food spot in the ID. I will go back to this bakery. My husband and I stopped for some nummy buns. We had one sweet bun, one lemon bun and two red bean buns and all were super tasty! We are going to make it a point to stop in and have the banh mi sandwiches next time. The atmosphere is nice and it seemed really clean too which is always awesome for me; OCD clean freak. Thank you Sun Bakery! We will see you soon!

I was in the I.D. for dim sum. Somehow I was able to leave the restaurant and not feel like a giant, waddling penguin person, which meant that I still had room for a yummy sweet bun. I went to three different bakeries in the area before I found Sun Bakery, the only bakery that had the exact kind of bun that I was looking for. I was so pleased that I got TWO buns, the custard bun and the sweet bun. They were large and fluffy and delicious, and they were only a little more than a dollar apiece.

I decided to take a break from my daily phở lunch and eat some banh mi. I read some Unilocal reviews and this place seemed to offer cheap, tasty banh mi. Cheap, yes. Very cheap. $ 2.50 for the Combo Banh Mi. Chicken, Ham, possibly something else in there. Along with a sprig or two of cilantro and pickled veggies. An mayo. The baguette was pretty chewy and kind of stale. It was also pretty tasteless, besides tasting the mayo… I prefer mine with a lot of cilantro and pickled veggies. I guess I could ask next time. Nothing to write home about, but good price. Restaurant is nice and clean, looks like they have some good pastries. Friendly staff. Got my sandwich pretty quick. Close to my office(sorta), so convenient for me. It was filling, though not overly.

I’m not really sure how I can spend so much time in the International District and never know about Sun Bakery. My only excuse is that I can’t walk past Jade Garden without getting sucked into dim sum paradise, hence, never making it across Jackson Street. During the lunar new year celebrations, I’m in the ID for three weekends straight. I’ve never really participated in the $ 2 food walk. The lines always deterred me and I’m there so much, I figure I can visit places when it’s more convenient. This year, for some reason, I decided to do the $ 2 food walk. I think I was just bored. Or really hungry. One of the businesses participating was Sun Bakery. They had a fantastic pork vermicelli sampler for $ 2. Amazing! It was a much bigger portion than I expected for $ 2. After the sampler, I went on my way. When it came time to really eat(not just snack) I went back to Sun Bakery. My group and I ordered phở, BBQ pork bahn mi sandwiches, sticky rice, and many, many more yummy treats. If you can find a bahn mi sandwich in Seattle for under $ 3, you should buy it. All of the bahn mi sandwiches at Sun Bakery are under $ 3. They’re not the best bahn mi in Seattle but I think it’s definitely a great value for the price. The phở was good but the broth was not the best I’ve tasted. I wasn’t a fan of the sticky rice but honestly, everything there is so cheap, I don’t have much to complain about. I’m still drawn to the pork vermicelli. Can’t get enough of it! Of course, I’ve been back since that day. Anything from almond cookies to custard eclairs, so many sweet choices, and with the prices — I have a really hard time choosing! The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating. The space is clean and well cared for. This has become one of my favorite spots to grab a quick bite to eat on the run. I’m a fan!

My favorite bakery in International District for years! All of the items are delicious and inexpensively priced :). I love the custard buns, cheese buns, bbq pork buns, coconut buns and all of it! The people who run this bakery are so nice!!!

Not as cheap as everyone raved about. $ 1.75 for BBQ pork bun. $ 1.50 for taro? Maybe I’m not accustomed to the norm in the area but in LA, it’s half that price and tastes many times better. More filling, less bread. The dough was tough and dry and the meat lacked any mouth watering smell let alone taste. Still on the hunt for better tasting, better priced Asian pastries.

Disappointing BanhMi To start, the server told me that they no longer put pâté in their BanhMi, which I thought, is a critical aspect of this sandwich. They said it’s because many people did not like it — that’s no excuse, they should at least make it available to those who do want an authentic experience. Besides that, the sandwich was doused in mayo, and a baguette that was around a day or two old. Not coming back here for sure.

I walked into Sun Bakery & Café looking for something small like an almond cookie. Little did I know I’d be walking out with 4 baked BBQ pork buns, 2 custard cups, 2 fruit tarts, and a partridge in a pear tree(not really). That’s the beauty with these Asian bakeries… everything just looks so good! Sun Bakery & Café has a nice selection of freshly baked goodies. I don’t know that many bakeries that serve up fresh BAKED bbq pork buns that are that big, tasty, and cheap. I apparently came in too early and wasn’t able to experience their baked cakes that they bring out on a daily basis. I’m up to try out their Durian cake! I give them high marks for the inexpensive menu and the friendly service. Be sure to check this place out across Jackson.

Totally inexpensive tasty pastries and drinks. I got 1 red bean bun and 1 soybean drink for darn cheap = good value. It’s a decent place for the ID and I’m a fan. I wish they had bubble tea, though. One of the ladys’ kid was crying a waterfall the whole time, for some reason, so that was a bit annoying but you can’t control that.

Not bad. I came here after walking around the ID aimlessly, looking for a spot to grab something quick and cheap. I had the combo banh mi and a pork bun. Both were really flavorful. The thing about the ID is that it lacks a good cheap spot for banh mi. You have to walk several blocks on jackson to get to saigon or seattle deli. The place in Uwajimaya isnt that good and SubSand is really pricey($ 4+) for a sandwich? The combo banh mi is really flavorful… usually i opt for the grilled/bbq pork kind but they didnt have it at Sun Bakery. The banh mi was 2.50 and the pork bun was 1.75.so pretty standard. They also have tofu, chicken, ham, and bbq pork(not the grilled pork kind) This place is a winner for me if you’re looking for a combo banh mi for cheap and you don’t want to go several blocks up jackson. I’ll be back there for more.

not my favorite place but my grandma loves it. whenever i visit her, this is the spot. she loves their pork chop plate. i enjoy their tofu phở. it doesn’t stand out in any way, but it’s cool that it’s on the menu. whenever i go to other places i have to order it specifically and they think i’m nuts. the owners are cool, very friendly and know my grandma. they make special accommodations for food needs which is nice. nice neighborhood spot.

We came here for some yummy pastries but came out a superfan of this café and bakery. We got all sorts of buns goodness, custard tart and also got two phở to go. The prices are decent for the quality of the buns… so much more fillings. They also have my favorite sausage bun… yummy. The phở was solid and the broth pretty good. The customer service was also very good, the owner giving us hot tea while we waited for our phở orders. This will be my new go to spot for my yummy pastries and much more!

I had a craving for banh mi, and so I looked this place up and went. I tried the bbq pork sandwich, and it was delicious, though pretty standard. It also helps that their sandwiches cost less than $ 3. I also tried an egg custard, which was decent at best. For me, egg custard is all about the crust – the pastry’s got to be a bit crispy and flaky to make the cut. The crust of Sun Bakery’s egg custard was soft and flexible, and therefore not that great. Still, I can’t pass up cheap, delicious banh mi.

This is my go-to spot for pork buns, red bean buns, sweet buns, etc. in Seattle. I’ve done my research on this. The lack of good quality buns here vs. New York is a little disheartening. NOT that I hate being in Seattle or miss Queens or anything. Ahem. But the baked goods here can hold their own against some of the best in Flushing, and that makes me happy. Buns here are on average 15 cents more expensive than the other places in the International District. This 15 cents buys you a higher pork to bun ratio, great quality pork in the filling, and not-overly-greasy-sweet bread with a nice texture. I am an aesthetically focused person, so the fact that the buns here are always perfectly shaped and visually appealing is a huge plus for me. And because doing the classics flawlessly is not enough, Sun Bakery is on the forefront of new bun technology! When they were out of sweet buns last time, the guy at the counter pointed me toward something called a cheese bun. This concoction features a slice of American cheese artfully folded within the bread, and topped with the same crumbles as the sweet bun. And… it’s awesome. Complaints: Coffee here is nothing to write home about and they only have half & half packets as opposed to milk. On the plus side, it’s cheap. The filling in the Swiss rolls also has a tiny bit too much butter in it. Maybe it was just that one time, though. The spot also seems like it is always open, and always empty. Why this is the case for the best bakery in Seattle remains a mystery to me. People, get with it. American cheese bun! This is absolutely worth the walk! There is a $ 5 or $ 7(I forget) minimum for credit card purchases.

I believe the store name is «Sun Bakery and CAFE» instead of Deli. Anyways, this place is a small Chinese style bakery + some choices of noodle bowls. This review is specifically regarding their Vietnamese sandwiches. I’ve been tried there Vietnamese sandwiches several about 4 times so far. First of all, the price is great. Their sandwiches are less than $ 3 with tax. To be exact, regular ones are $ 2.25 before tax and the combo is $ 2.50 before tax. My favorite is the combo. It has Chinese ham, chicken, cucumber and some other veggies. The budget is pretty big. If you are a woman, you will be full or 80% full at least.(If you are a man, I don’t know. I’m a tiny Asian woman after all.) The budget is crispy enough to make a mess in my car. Tasty enough to make me come back 3 times. Each sandwich is wrapped with a paper, so it’s easy to carry. Honestly, I wouldn’t drive just for this sandwich. However, it would be a good choice for lunch(or a big snack) if you are already in the area. In addition, they have about 15 kinds of buns and pastries and cakes to try! As you see, other reviewers are doing a great job reviewing these.
