Well I’m in Seattle for a few months working and went out waking one day to check out the shops in Greenwood. Imagine my surprise as I stepped into this lovely little knitting shop with the ladies all sitting chatting and knitting.
Yes I bought some yarn and Yes I will return!

5 stars for selection and stock.
1 star for service.
They had a table of full of regulars knitting and the staff was somehow mixed in there sitting and chatting. No hellos. No How Can I Help Yous.
I browsed through the store on my own and oogled after the Spincycle yarns. Great stock in some great colorways. I found MadTosh Pashmina here and a great quantity of Hazel Knits which is a locally dyed yarn.
Not the friendliest of stores but they have a fantastic collection of yarn.

I’ll repeat what others are saying. This place isn’t friendly. Not sure if you have to be a certain age or demographic for them to be friendly or what. (I’m 31.)
I’ve visited twice; the first time it was quite busy and no one spoke to me, not even a hello. That seemed cold but I figured they were just busy. Over the weekend, I met a woman who sang their praises, so I tried again today. It was dead today. The woman behind the register was incredibly begrudging when I asked a question and was pretty reluctant to say goodbye when I said thank you, bye. Sheesh. What’s it take?
Some ppl might say that it’s not important for shopkeepers to be friendly, but the fiber world is a small one. If you can’t make friends/​feel welcome here, then where else?
Besides that, they have a nice selection of Noros, Madelines, and your usual high-​end, mainstream yarns, Lantern Moons, buttons. Too bad I’m not going back b/​c it seems like they have nice local yarns too. No great loss!

What an amazing spread of yarn! Loved it! I wish I had more money to buy more yarn to make more things! As it was, I left with nearly $ 100 of yarn. Sigh. I do with they had a few more options in the notions area, but with such amazing yarn, who can complain.
I was also really impressed with the customer service. Both of the staff I talked to were friendly and really helpful. Absolutely love it. Will return!

Fiber Gallery is the best. These wonderful women are so helpful, so nice, and wonderfully knowledgeable. Next time you are thinking about a fun project, maybe skip out on Joanne’s and head here.

Ann was incredibly helpful when I went in on Monday. As a novice, I went in for «yarn for a scarf.» Ann asked detailed questions of what it was for, how long I had knitted before, the general size of the piece, and if I wanted any «give.» She then gave me a few options of what would be best for me and she helped me find the right knitting needle size. After purchasing, she showed me how to ball my yarn and gave tips for knitting. I am so impressed with this place and will be back!
There is a table to sit and knit at the store. It felt very cozy in there. Plenty of street parking. They also created an account for me so I can see what I’ve purchased in the past and possible frequent shopper discounts. Thank you!

Disclaimer: I am definitely not a knitter so my review about this yarn store may not not be as thorough as other reviews. However, from a non-​knitter perspective, it is a pretty cute little shop. It kind of reminds me of one of those mom and pop stores.
There is plenty of parking outside so you don’t have to stress about competitive parking. The shop is nicely decorated with a lot of stuffed animals made by hand. The stuffed animal felted bear looked pretty impressive. I liked walking through the store and seeing all the colorful yarn neatly displayed on each shelf. The clerk was pretty nice where she leaves you to go about on your own adventure exploring the store without disturbing you.
As I waited for my friend who is a avid knitter, I sat on the comfy seats that faced the display window. I finally understood what it must feel like when my husband waits for me while I shop. Thankfully, those chairs were comfy :)

First of all, they have a decent selection of natural fibers. For that, I give them two stars. They have a lot of the Cascade yarns (so common yet decent), a good selection of Noro yarns, but not as much of the hand-​spun and dyed stuff that I personally like. The prices are on the high side, too. No biggie as long as they have a good selection.
I was hoping to get something a little further north than the Weaving Works, which has been my «go to» place when I am in town, both for knowledge and selection. This was my first trip to The Fiber Gallery, and probably my last, as I will happily take the extra five minutes to go to the U-​District. This is why…
Customer service is key. I have been knitting for about 40 years — long enough to know when someone tilts their head with a look of pity and says «you can’t wash this in the MACHINE, you know,» that they are being a bit snotty. While I am not the most knowledgeable knitter in the world, I often come up with decent questions and just need small amounts of advice here and there. I asked her about super wash and it’s «drape» — and wondering why I had this issue. The woman at the counter — I feel that she was very knowledgeable, especially regarding my one question — for that I am grateful. However, I don’t know who she was, but even if she were the Queen of Greenwood, she would be too snotty.
The thing is, I love teaching people how to knit — I have been doing it for years. I love sharing my knowledge and encouraging people to learn and do. These people should NOT be in customer service if they are going to treat people with disdain. I might venture to guess, that if you spent a couple hundred dollars and compliment the hell out of this lady while wearing your diamond encrusted Tag Heuer and a mink coat, she would like you. I only spent $ 40 — and my kid was in pajamas — so I suck.
So, if you want a good selection of some more expensive «trendy» Noro yarns and to be treated like you are a lower class, then, by all means, shop at the Stinky Fiber Gallery. Or go to the Weaving Works and get good advice and selection.

Favorite yarn store in the area, nice staff, great selection in a tiny space. Every time I come in for a project I find something I love!
Big fan of their buying program; doesn’t help that every time I go in I use and gain another $ 20 off :)
Book selection is very good and well organized.

The owner is RUDE. We are new to the neighborhood & were hoping to find fun new hobby to do. My sister thought what a great opportunity when we saw a Groupon deal for a beginners knitting class here. She took it but the owner complained how extra help my sister needed! Really?! Isn’t this why she was here?! Geez! Your time & $$ is better spent elsewhere.

Excellent yarn selection, every needle and hook under the sun in stock, friendly staff, old school knitting circles, tons of classes on everything fiber related… what more could you ask for?!

Jeeze, I remember the good ol’ days when the staff knew me by name.
The final straw for me was when I stopped by one afternoon during their regular open hours just to pick up a circ and the store owner didn’t want to let me in because they were setting up for their annual clearance sale (however the door was not locked). Just off the cuff I said, «Oh cool, the big sale. I don’t think I got an invite this year.» She replied in a totally snarky tone, «Then you must not have spent enough money. But don’t worry, we don’t take attendance at the door.»
She didn’t thank me for my purchase, no «it’s good to see you again,» there was ZERO hospitality — she couldn’t kick me out the door soon enough. Gosh, thanks for the heartfelt sentiment, but don’t worry, I won’t be crashing your little party.
Yep, I have since parted ways with The Fiber Gallery.
By the way, I knit 177 100% animal fiber garments in 2012 (I do a lot of knitting for Wool-​Aid). I spent about $ 2500 on wool last year alone. And not one nickel went to this shop on purpose. I’ve switched to picking up emergency skeins and virtually all of my needles at Tea Cozy in Ballard.

i friggin love this place. i moved to columbia city last year, but i still make the 150-​block trek back up to gwood when i can. the ladies are really friendly… i’m not a «regular», but they still seem to recognize me.
they have discoed a few yarn brands that i liked, but i understand that they are a small business and can’t afford to hold onto the «dogs». for all i know, i was the only customer at the store buying those «popular» yarns. anyhow, they have all the nicey-​nice brands i like to look at (malabrigo, imperial columbia, spud & chloe) and, of course, they have cascade 220. their prices are comparable with WEBS, especially when you consider that there’s no shipping.
there are also a lot of really decent bars and restaurants close by (the yard, chupacabra…) in case you work up an appetite.

This is my fave Seattle yarn shop. Good selection of yarn, needles, and books. The staff has always been friendly and helpful.
My only request is the same as it is in most yarn stores — get more selection. Fiber Gallery’s is decent, but there’s always room for improvement. It’s a popular yarn store — why not pack it with every desirable brand of yarn?

I love their yarn selection. They have a lot of practical yarns for people who would just like to make a simple sweater, mittens, or a hat. This includes washable, wool and silk blends, and a lot of great organic and natural fibers.
They also keep punch-​card/​reward card information on their computer so I don’t have to hang onto a card. Their prices are not too bad, considering the quality of their yarns.
A lot of their products have wonderful color-​ways, and the employees seem to know their products well. They also seem to have a great selection of sock yarn. If you’re looking for frou-​frou, synthetics and sparkly stuff, this is probably not the best place to go.
They say (there’s a sign on the window) that they are crochet-​friendly, but I have yet to meet staff that really seems to be interested. Regardless, they have always been quite helpful to me. I do wish they were friendlier.
If it weren’t for the things I identified in the last paragraph, I’d give this shop 5 stars.

The Fiber Gallery is my favorite yarn shop in Seattle. This is largely because of their awesome selection of sock yarn, all organized on its own wall!
The selection of yarn as a whole goes from staples like Cascade 220 and Lamb’s Pride to more interesting «earth friendly» organic wool or plant fibers like nettle and recycled viscose. There’s always something new and interesting to check out
The staff is friendly and ready to assist with questions or finding what you need. Even if you don’t need much help, there are usually a few people sitting around the large table and knitting. It’s a nice place to come work on a project for a bit if I’m feeling the need for company.

I finally got a chance to check out The Fiber Gallery, on my birthday no less :)
What a great store! I spent a lot of time just wondering around and looking at their stock. They have so many interesting things. I saw yarn made from nettle fiber, some kind of paper ribbon, along with lots of yummy animal fibers and cotton. I also saw all 3 sizes of Malabrigo which I was pretty excited about: D They also had a small section for spinning fiber with some nice Ashford drop spindles. Oh and lots of cool accessories, bags, stuff for gifts for fiber friends, books, oh my!
The person running the store when we were there was super friendly and helpful. I like the vibe of this place. Two thumbs up!

I found this place to be very nice. The staff were friendly and they had a nice selection of yarn. My Knittin Sensei recommended that I come to this place as it is one of her favorites. They have a nice list of classes as well and have a great email newsletter.

This was my first yarn shop, I had no idea how lucky I was until I ventured out a bit more.
The staff is friendly, and will provide you with great recommendations. You can tell them that you want something cheap and they won’t be mad at you, or scoff at your cheapness, they’ll lead you to their more affordable options, or simply offer advice.
They’ve got a great large table that you can hang out at and knit, when they aren’t busy they’ll often come over and chat with you.
Great selection, lots of good stuff, they listen to their customers and order in what’s popular amongst the knitting crowd.
My only request would be that they offer beginning knitting classes that go for more than one night (like a weekly month-​long series), I know that my learning style is such that I benefit from multiple instances of instruction (which is why I’ve since forgotten how to knit… long story).

About a month ago I started what would be my greatest art project. .. a 23″ x 30″ latch hook of my brother-in-law’s face for his 40^th birthday (see picture above).
I ordered all of my supplies on line — which took two weeks to be delivered — so when I ran out of a pink and grey yarn with only ¹⁄₃ of the hookin’ to go I cried just a little.
Well my crying stopped when I entered The Fiber Gallery on Saturday morning. I brought in the two yarn samples and immediately they pointed me towards the needlepoint — or could be used for latch hook — section. Not only did they have a wide variety of pinks and greys — they had two that matched almost perfectly! And only $ 1.00 per skein.
Now I know, having almost completed my first masterpiece, where I should go first when the latch hooking bug bites again.
