The Museum of Flight

Two words describe this outstanding aviation museum… world class. The quality and diversity of the museum’s aircraft is absolutely fantastic with more planes being added to the main display area as they are restored at the museum’s Everett, WA facility. Located at Boeing Field, this museum is a «must see» if in the Seattle. You will not be disappointed.

Huge museum! If you are interested in aviation and space, I would recommend this place if you are ever in Seattle.
There are a lot of different types of aircrafts and multiple exhibits that go through different times in history, and how aviation has changed. It is a very large museum and there aren’t too many entertaining or interactive exhibits for if you have children. There are a few shuttle rides which are extra charge so if you are looking for a place where kids can be entertained for hours on end, this isn’t the right place. I think the Museum of Flight is great if you are the type of person who can be curious, learn, and entertain yourself. There’s tons of information to pour over and all the panels are detailed and have lots of information.
The admission price is pretty standard as far as museums go and the parking is fairly easy.

This place is amazing! Full-​sized aircraft, simulators, all kinds of smaller artifacts from aviation history, the Boeing factory right nearby, a fantastic gift shop, and even cutaways of planes you can go in. Second only to the air and space Museum in Washington DC. Great for kids

LOL, this place was okay. I was hoping to see a G6, but they didn’t have one. This place didn’t entertain me luckily I can entertain myself. I was really bored after 45 minutes of this place. There was tons of students here from school eating their lunch when I got there around noon.

When I was in Seattle in February it was raining, and the ceiling was leaking. There’s two rides which charges you an arm and a leg. There’s tons of display of planes, aircraft and space rockets with a lot of history and facts for you to learn.
I think I enjoy the Kid’s Zone more, It’s a fun place to just come and take pictures of yourself in the display of planes and aircraft. Would I come back? Mostly likely not. I was pretty bored after a while. Overall, I think it’s a great place to brings your kids to learn about the planes, aircraft and space.
But I don’t have kids, I just came because I was in Seattle and it’s was a museum.

Nice place to take the family. Captivating guided tours peak your interest and add insight to the world of aviation. Such a nice place to visit. Be sure to get an annual pass for added value and discounts.

The staff is so nice. They really want you to enjoy their passion for flight. America is a great country. So proud to be an American!

Second only to the Smithsonian Udvar-​Hazy Center in Virginia, this has one of the best aviation and space collections in the United States. The Concorde, the Dreamliner, the 747… so much cool smaller exhibits to see too. If you or your kids love planes and space, this is a must-​see. I would avoid the museum on free-​days since it becomes a total zoo (it’s worth paying for), but otherwise– go see it. I’ll be excited to go back when their new building is finished!
One note: DO NOT take the bus here. This bus route has one of the worst reputations in the country and has some of the most disruptive riders partially because it goes through very underprivileged communities on the way to the museum. If you don’t have a car, just UBER here– it is a much better option even if you pay more.

After our adventure at the Future of Flight & Boeing Factory tour, the wife and I decided to make it an aviation day and jetted down to The Museum of Flight. We got there 2 hours prior to closing and went to pay for our admission. AFTER I paid, the employee informed me that the outdoor displays were all closed due to aircraft movement. What we weren’t told, though, was that the Charles Simonyi Space Gallery was also closed. Had I known the outdoor stuff would all be closed, I’m not sure I would have continued on, but continue on we did since we had already paid.
The exhibits we did get to see were really good, with many really famous aircraft and space exhibits. The view of BFI from the «control tower» is pretty good too! Another pretty cool thing is the ability to sit in the cockpit of some aircraft, like the SR71. The museum does have simulators and other interactive activities, but nearly all of them require additional fees, and some even require advanced reservations.
Unfortunately, really soon after we had arrived, the staff of the museum had began shutting it down, blocking off exhibits for a private party.
I’m sure our experience isn’t normal, but it was unfortunate. I’d like to return again in the future, but perhaps I’ll call ahead of time to make sure exhibits won’t be closed… and perhaps go in the morning to avoid issues with being kicked out of areas early.

Another museum in which I wish I had an extra hour or two because three hours wasn’t enough because I was too engrossed in the whole experience. Every aspect of flight that you would ever would want to know about is in this museum. $ 20 for adults, $ 12 for juniors (5 – 17), and 4 and under are free.
The museum has probably about 20 different exhibits located in four areas inside the property along with exhibits of aircraft outside the building. Don’t forget to cross the street over the Memorial Bridge to check out more exhibits. If you have time constraints, make sure you view the website before you visit, grab a guide when you enter, or direct any questions to any of the helpful employees so you can see everything that you want.
The Boeing Centennial exhibit tells a comprehensive history of Boeing. The shuttle trainer gives you a nice perspective of the size of the shuttle. For a fee, there are a couple of flight simulators and tours available. One of my favorite exhibits was the Tower at Boeing Field where you can learn about the line of communication of the air traffic controllers for a plane to take off and land and you can actually get a bird’s eye view of plane landing while listening to the communication between air traffic control and the pilot. Viewing both the Concorde and Air Force One was another favorite of the visit.
If you didn’t get to see everything you wanted and still have time to make a return visit, you can buy a discounted «return» ticket” ($ 12 for adults) to be used within seven days. They also have a triumphant 12s special in which you can get admission for $ 12 following a Seahawks win (so tomorrow if you read this tonight for you fortunate Hawks fans). If you have any interest in flight whatsoever, then this museum is for you.

I don’t know what I was thinking with planning only 2 hours to explore the museum. This place is MASSIVE. Get ready to be slapped with history, the good kind.
Learn everything about the beginnings of Boeing, step into Boeing’s original R&D building, and listen to the engines roar! You’ll be overwhelmed with the collection of planes they have inside. Whether you have zero or extensive knowledge of airplanes, you can appreciate everything you find in this museum.
Compared to Smithsonian’s Air & Space Museum in DC, this museum is on par. You’ll get the full experience, both inside, outside, and across the street (the library is located via bridge).
For me, the most exciting part is stepping into the retired Air Force One and see what it’s really like for our past Presidents as they fly around the world. Fun fact: Did you know that when an Air Force One flies over any body of water, rescue flights and boats are on standby along the route? That’s insane! The amount of preparation the country needs for every international flight is unbelievable.
The staff are helpful and very knowledgable. You can tell that they are deeply passionate with airplanes and history! Don’t skip the gift shop, I finally took home the Pan Am carry-​on bag that I’ve been eyeing for quite some time.

Having a fascination with the skies, I loved visiting this museum.
There are a wide variety of aircraft that dates from the beginning of aviation history that you can see up close and personally. If you are a fan of airplanes, this place is a must-​see.
It’s a little bit out there in the middle of nowhere but it’s not that far from Seattle. Admission is $ 20 ($ 18 with AAA card). Unlike the Boeing factory nearby, you can take as many pictures as you like.

While many cities have art museums, not many can attest that they have a flight museum like Seattle does. Since Seattle is known as Jet City and Boeing has a big presence in the region, it is very appropriate that a place like the Museum of Flight exists here. And the city’s residents should consider themselves lucky to be able to visit this museum as such.
Earlier this fall, I visited the Museum of Flight and was quite impressed with this facility. The museum is located in South Seattle next to Boeing Field. You can actually see general aviation planes moving about a few yards away when you are walking on the outside part of the museum.
After getting off I-​5 South, I drove a fairly long distance northward on E Marginal Way until I finally reached the museum. The museum has a couple parking lots next to it. When those lots get filled up, you can park in the overflow lots across the street and walk over. You can wait at the light to cross the street or walk further north till you see a skybridge in which you can cross over to the other side of the street.
The museum is a massive facility. There are planes everywhere. Outside the museum and inside. The inside of the facility has many interesting exhibits which covers areas include the early years of aviation, aviation in the Pacific Northwest and a section covering space exploration. There is also a kids play area here.
There are many planes on display inside the museum including a Boeing 737 and numerous military planes. But the planes that are of most interest are parked outside the museum. Outside you will find a Boeing 787, a British Airways Concorde and an Air Force One Boeing 707 plane used by numerous US presidents.
I really can’t do justice in praising the flight artifacts found at this museum. There is just so many things here to see for anyone who is passionate about the history of aviation, planes and space travel. If you can only visit one museum in Seattle, I would recommend The Museum of Flight as there aren’t many facilities like this around the world.

I love the open spaces and it is a sweet museum to head on a windy, chilly day especially for our eight year old. I wish I had more time to read the history in the Boeing barn (my sister-​in-​law found it cool that the company’s first engineer is from her undergrad school) but with a three year old afoot it’s difficult to spend too much time in one spot.
I wish they had more interactive exhibits to cater for the younger set!

I am upset that I didn’t visit this place earlier! This place is huge and I could easily spend days here and still not see everything. The $ 20 admission price is well worth it! Here is a tip, they take AAA discounts, just show your card!
The exhibits encompass the history of flight and space exploration. They have model aircraft, a flight control tower, the history of Boeing (my favorite), and when you go outside you can go in The Concord and Air Force One!
Great for people of all ages!

Not particularly a plane person, but I’ve grown a bigger appreciation for them after checking this place out. My family and I visited the museum as it was my Dad’s birthday and he loves planes. We got basic admission (meaning that we didn’t bother paying extra for any shows or special tours, etc.), but that was sufficient enough for us and we had a great time.
This place is huge and it’s easy to spend the whole day here as there’s tons to learn about at each exhibition with aircrafts of all kinds to see and even go into (including miniature and large restorations). They also have several mini «theatres» in the exhibits where you can sit and watch different documentaries about war and the planes, which get really interesting, especially if you’re into American history.
Don’t forget you also have access to the Space exhibit, just go somewhat outside and cross the beautiful Memorial Bridge.

Omg! Omg! It was amazing! I learned soo much about the history of planes that I never would of known if I didn’t go. It was super educational; but it thenmost fun way possible! They used to think all planes should have a lounge with a full bar! What happened? ?!! Lol. Great for kids and adults. I’m a huge fan of the WWII genre. The whole room dedicated to it was amazing! So informative and so realistic. Made me wanna go and travel back in time. Highly recommend! A must see! !!

If you go to the museum you will be blown away by the billion dollar display of planes. If you go with a pilot like I did, you will never want to leave!
There is the original Air Force One 707 airplane, that started flying when Kennedy was president. There is the very first 747 (from 1969) freshly restored inside and out. Can’t wait for tours to start on that guy! The world’s first multi aisle plane. They are beginning restoration on the first 787 which will be spectacular. They have the world’s fastest plane, capable of speeds up to Mach 4. They even have a replica space shuttle!
Out front of the museum is a statue of a piece of metal on a stand. It is actually the wing tip of one of the bigger Boeing planes. It happens to cost $ 245,000!!!

I attended a reunion of my USAF fighter squadron here, and it was the perfect venue! Airplanes I’ve never heard of before were packed in this place and perfectly restored. I’ve flown a lot of different airplanes in my career, and some of them were on display. Very nostalgic.
If you are an airplane buff, this is a «must see».

The Museum of Flight surprised me and left me wishing I had more time.
When you walk in, your eyes will immediately take you past the ticket counter off to the left, where there’s a huge windowed hangar filled with airplanes.
What you’re NOT noticing is that most of the good stuff is off to your right.
There’s a huge exhibit with planes from WWI and WWII, with tons of information about some of the wars’ most important pilots. I love this stuff, but only discovered this area of the museum with about an hour before they closed.
And while the main hall (to the left) does have some space exhibits, there’s an entire shuttle training module and even more space stuff if you walk across a bridge that takes you above Marginal Way.
And if you go outside, you can walk inside a huge Boeing 787 Dreamliner and a plane that was used as Air Force One for Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon.
I’m bummed I spent so much time thinking the museum was in that huge room with all the windows when I would have rather enjoyed the war and space stuff. I guess it’s my fault for not reading the brochure correctly.
If you’re an aviation buff, there’s TONS to see here. I care more about the personal stories than the technology, and there’s some of that here, although the emphasis is definitely on the machines more than the men.
I wish I could go back and reconfigure my day so I could spend my time more wisely here.

Großes neohistorisches Museum mit Begeisterungspotential für groß und klein. Ausgestellt sind die Flugobjekte des vergangenen Jahrhunderts, verständlicherweise zum Großteil von Boeing selbst. Kurzfilme und interaktive Stationen sorgen für Abwechslung zwischen der Vielzahl an Exponaten der modernen Raumfahrt. In den Seitenflügeln des Hauptgebäudes wird auf die kontemporäre Situation und der Kriegseinsatz von Fluggeräten eingegangen.
Alleine die moderne und ansprechende Architektur des Museums ist den Besuch wert. Des weiteren befindet sich noch eine Kantine/​Buffet-​restaurant im Hauptgebäude, von dem man allerdings nicht zu viel erwarten darf. Für ein entspanntes Mittagessen reicht es jedoch alle Mal.
Insgesamt ist es ein tolles Museum mit angenehmer Atmosphäre und Unikaten der Raumfahrt. Sehr geeignet für einen Wochenendbesuch, auch mit Familie.
