Two Dog Yoga

I love this place. The best decision I’ve made in years was to drop in one Tuesday morning five months ago. The studio and teachers are warm and inviting.

What an adorable yoga studio! I went for a drop in class and it was great. They have everything you need — mats, straps, blocks, bolster pillows, blankets. I love that they make it easy for you to come here, so no excuses!
They seem to have a lovely community involved in many areas of the yoga practice, as well as guest speakers and travel experiences you can sign up for.
The instructors are so kind and genuinely welcoming, I just wish I had tried it out sooner!

I had attended other yoga classes for years before I discovered Two Dog Yoga so can attest that these classes are different than many. For one thing, the instructors spend most of the class time making sure you are in correct position and getting the most out of your pose and are comfortable, instead of doing the yoga with you in the front of the room and just occasionally come by, so you really feel cared about and are getting the best benefits possible. Second, the environment is uplifting yet calm and very clean. Third, each instructor I have experienced has a different approach, but yet there is a consistent quality throughout. What works great for one person, doesn’t always work as best for another, so try out different classes and instructors. I have found a great relationship with Wendy, but sometimes I drop by other classes too depending on my schedule, and have enjoyed them all. This is a gem of a place with prices that are fair especially for the quality of instruction.

Two Dog is a great yoga studio. All of the teachers are incredibly talented, patient, and knowledgable. Many yoga studios can be intimidating to beginners, but Two Dog is not. They are very welcoming and there are a lot of normal people with normal bodies there. Annie’s Intro class is very useful if you would like to take things slow and focus on a deep learning of a new practice. It provides a wonderful foundation to other classes. You can also just as easily drop into a Level I class if you feel like you have the background. The studio uses a lot of props (blocks, blankets, bolsters, straps, etc), which is something that many studios I’ve been to don’t use as much, and I really like the option. Of course, everything is up to you, and you can use as many or as few props as you want. It’s a wonderful studio and I highly recommend it.

What a joy to arrive in a new neighborhood and find there’s a beautiful yoga community here with invigorating, nourishing yoga classes plus excellent special events in Ayurveda and couples massage. We’re so lucky. Thank you, Two Dog Yoga! Viva Lake City!

love this yoga studio. Really makes me feel good about being there even though I am a beginner.

I recently completed Two Dog Yoga’s Intro to Yoga series and I have to say that I am really thankful that this studio is just a few blocks away from my house. Annie is a fantastic instructor. I loved that she could explain concepts in a way that was easy to grasp and offered individual instruction and support as needed. I appreciated all of the props that were provided, and that modifications and challenges were offered. I also love that she works with and reminds us of our connection to nature throughout the class. I would highly recommend this series to beginners and I am very much looking forward to going back for other classes.

A fellow Unilocaler told me about a free yoga week to check out the studio, so check out I did. Loved that they had free street parking. The studio was very large and accomodated a very full class well. Also enjoyed that they had two bathrooms, I get kind of annoyed at the ones that only have 1, or a seperate male/​female bathrooms. Like most studios they had props available. Class I took was taught by Wendy who provided good instruction. Apparently they do the free week of yoga twice a year so good to know if you are not sure if yoga is right for you, or are not sure which teacher you would work best with.

I recently signed up for a series with Wendy and I’m loving it. She’s a great teacher– very thoughtful, down to earth and seems to really live her yoga. The studio itself beautiful and comfortable– the lotus mural on the wall is lovely. I’m really glad that the Lake City area has such a great yoga studio and I’m just wondering why it took me so long to try it out.
I give only 4 stars because I have yet to try classes from other teachers, but I’m sure they are fantastic as well.

Annie has created a wonderful sanctuary. The space is lovely (check out the mural), Annie and the rest of the instructors are wonderful and so are the guest teachers Annie invites on a regular basis. When I was living in Seattle, this was my absolutely favorite yoga studio.

I wish they would open a studio next door to me I don’t get there very often — my loss (Though you know I go to an outstanding studio– hauteyoga).

It took me years to finally make my way to yoga, and I’m so glad I began the journey at Two Dog. It is a special place — beautiful, peaceful, open to meeting you wherever you are in your body, your practice, and your life. I’ve taken classes with half a dozen teachers, and they are all fantastic. (My special favorites are Annie, Wendy, and Jane.) Together, the folks at Two Dog create an opportunity to quiet the mind, stretch the body, and invigorate the soul. Two Dog is a North Seattle gem — and one worth making a destination if you’re from outside the neighborhood!

Two Dog Yoga (TDY) has another hidden gem that hasn’t yet been reviewed: Qigong! This is what I am going to review, since I haven’t yet practiced yoga at TDY.
TDY offers a variety of qigong series classes – a practice completely new to me after studying/​practicing yoga for six years. Qigong classes here are all taught with Martha Hurwitz (with one series co-​taught with Cathleen Summers). And I love Martha! I’m only in the middle of my first ever series (Remedy Routines), but I have to say already that I love the class.
Before I signed up for the class, I e-​mailed Martha and asked if the Remedy Routines would be appropriate for me, since I’m about six or seven weeks out of reconstructive foot surgery. She replied promptly, was communicative with me, clear about the possibilities I could look forward to in my practice, and generally made me feel confident about trying out a completely new art.
Martha’s style is relaxed; she is funny, knowledgeable and able to address questions and curiosities of the students. She tells stories, explain concepts in a simple but effective way, and works with each student on individual adjustments where necessary. This is an entire learning process, not just a practice. Tonight, our class went over a few minutes, and I was impressed that Martha wasn’t quick to just push us all out at the end, like so many yoga classes I’ve taken.
The studio is comfortable and open on the inside – pretty straightforward. I’m not wild about the location; the studio is tucked away in Lake City, near the community center and library – not hard to get to, but dark and a little uncomfortable at night, even to go to my car. (I spent part of my practice tonight redirecting my focus away from worrying about whether my car was going to get broken in to…) TDY doesn’t have a parking lot, so you’ll be bidding for spots (so to speak) on the dark side streets – no parking allowed in the adjacent community center lot. :\
Overall, I’m very pleased with my experience so far. I came to the class with a temporary disability never having practiced qigong before; and I feel the TDY environment is welcoming and safe, and I’ll likely take more qigong at TDY in the future.

Two Dog has a wonderful staff of gifted teachers.
Annie, the studio owner is a great yoga teacher. She is very skilled at presenting the concepts in a clear, grounded way, an the personal adjustments she gives reinforce her instruction.
The studio is open and spacious, and classe are small enough so everyone gets personal attention.
Highly recommend to anyone seeking yoga class.

After a busy holiday season and a few months of non-​practice, it was a pleasure to come to Two Dog Yoga. The space is serene with exposed pipes, black ceiling, wood floor, and an energizing red wall at the front. The wall is covered with a huge lotus (sorry, didn’t bring my camera and the website didn’t have a pic).
I was here for a workshop– the Practicing Deeply: Yin, Vinyasa and Meditation with Shannon McCall. It was a 3 hour tour. The first part of the class was yin yoga, which I’ve never done before. Yin yoga is far from the popular vinyasa or flow yoga, where you go through several postures after holding the pose for a few breaths. With yin yoga you hold the pose for a good 5 minutes, allowing you to sink into a mini-​meditation. Then Shannon led us through sun salutations and finished with a seated meditation. She was calm and soothing, providing a number of variations so you could tailor it to your level. She also instructed us through a two segments of cleansing breaths (her abs are fierce and frightening!). I got lost at the handstand portion and declined individual attention from her.
If I lived closer to Two Dog Yoga, I’d certainly be a regular in her class. She made sure that you were doing the poses correctly and walked around frequently, unlike some instructors that just want to show off their flexibility.
The others in the class were also very chill. It was supportive that people were focused on their own practice, as opposed to trying to compete with one another.
Two Dog Yoga also provides all the yoga props that you’d need– blocks, belts, and bolsters.
