I’ll tell you why I’m only giving these guys three stars. It’s because they often tend to bring in the second or third tier acts in the music they present. For instance, I went to see Tuvan throat singers there. Tuvan throat singing is traditionally a male pursuit, though in recent years women have begun to participate. The world series brought in the women, not the men. Time and again, I’ve gone to their performances only to learn upon arrival that it was the B Team, not the A Team performers in that genre. On the other hand, the venue is great, the parking is easy and convenient, and it’s still fun and educational. I’d just like to see best of breed.

The UW World Series is actually four separate series: world music, world dance, piano, and chamber music. I’ve had season tickets to the world music series for several years. The range of styles is large, but almost every show is exciting and fun. It’s always enjoyable to find out what’s on for next year, and the new season has just been posted to their website.
