Located in the heart of Occidental Park, Wessel & Lieberman is a small shop with a wide variety of fine books to choose from. They seem to carry a lot of artists’ books, poetry, and of course, everything and anything having to do with Pacific Northwest history. I was especially impressed by their selection of books about books. If you’re interested in printing, type, bookbinding, book collecting, etc. this is definitely the place to go. Inside, the shop feels fairly modern and clean and it has some great high ceilings. It’s definitely not the typical dusty old used bookstore(not to say that those aren’t amazing as well). But there are books stacked EVERYWHERE, so it can be a challenge to find what you’re looking for. No worries, the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly(but they don’t pressure you either). If you’re interested in a particular genre, you can sign up for notifications on their website. When they get new books in that match your interest they’ll shoot you an e-mail and let you know. Love that. Wessel & Lieberman is just another reason why Pioneer Square is such a special, unique neighborhood in Seattle. Buy a book here and then head over to Caffe Umbria down the street for a cappuccino and some quality reading time.

They have a truly impressive collection. I’m especially interested in poetry. I’ve signed up for their fresh sheets which are emailed periodically… This means I’m poor in wallet and shelf space, but rich in spirit! I’ve bought many titles from them over the last decade or more. Always prompt and expertly packaged(I live out of the area). They really know their stuff, and their stuff is beautiful, often rare and hard to find books, broadsides, and other items of printed language.

Awesome poetry and literature collection, and some nice, vintage travel and non-fiction. Skip the Globe next door and come here.

This is the best antiquarian bookstore in Seattle, with a diverse selection, clean browsing environment, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Like most higher-end booksellers, prices can be a bit steep for first editions and rare items; later editions are more reasonably priced. Turnover is reasonably good; they seem to receive new stock on a regular basis. If you know books and appreciate bookstores that don’t reek of cat urine, then this is the place for you.
