We all know that printed media(such as news papers) are dying off like flies. The Sedalia Democrat is no different. I appreciate their attempt to bring in a new editor to «fix» it but there is nothing to be fixed. In today’s tech, the only thing that local papers have going for them is local news. The SD web page(last time I looked) was only updated with SUBSTANTIAL local news. Yes, I would like to know who won each election… but I can find that tomorrow night on a channel out of Columbia. My suggestion would be this: forget international/national news… we can get that on the fly, moment by moment. Instead of that, focus on local news updated VERY quickly online! The printed media is dying, and has been for a long time. I grew up reading the Sunday Funny Pages as a child and I still hope this paper survives. However, in order for it to survive, you need to focus on the NOW mentality our generation is accustomed to, and steer away from the«This happened yesterday!»

It’s nice to see concise, yet broad coverage tucked away in this little corner of the midwest. It’s hard to find a good middle ground betwix that old town newspaper style and more hard-nosed reporting. But the editors here seem to have found a good mix. And they have comics. That’s nice. But overall, it gives me a good reason to spend money on the actual physical paper again.

This newspaper does some good journalism, covering important issues in a wide area of counties that they cover. The reporters and photographers are friendly, the ones I’ve met. My grandparents subscribe, and I enjoy reading it when I visit.
