The sides are okay, but virtually all of their meat is very poor quality. Nobody there actually knows how to prepare or cook BBQ the right way. One of the other reviewers was right when they said that this place is to BBQ what Taco Bell is to Mexican Food.

Unfortunately the food at Dickey’s was awful. The staff was very friendly, but this restaurant is to BBQ what Taco Bell is to Mexican food. My family is from the south, so I am always on the lookout for good BBQ. I frequent the Target in Seekonk, and one day I happened to be really hungry while I was out and about, so we gave Dickey’s a try. The food was incredibly bland and just not good overall. If you are looking for good BBQ — keep looking.

Tried it for the first time tonight and was disappointed. They were out of the brisket(at 6:00 pm), which is what I wanted to try. I went for the ribs. I wish they had been out of those. The were so dried out they were rib jerky. I liked the cole slaw ok. The loaded baked potato was really instant mashed potatoes with stuff on it. I do want to try it one more time for the sliced brisket(won’t get the chopped based on other reviews).

I have gone to Dickey’s on 2 different occasions. First time out was with some friends for a charity event they were holding. Got the Beef Brisket Big BBQ sandwich with the Mac and Cheese and Waffle Fries. I was quite impressed with the meat, tasted pretty good. Waffle fries were nice and crispy. Although I did have to wait since they were a bit backed up with all the people there. They brought them to my table when it was ready. The Mac n Cheese was a bit bland, it was actually not a thick version, but more of a runny cheese sauce. Second time I decided to see if my wife wanted to go seeing as she likes BBQ and there aren’t many places like that around here. I ordered the 2 meat plate with Brisket and Pulled pork. Yes it is chopped a bit too much. I’d wonder if you can have them just serve it sliced. This time I got the Waffle Fries(a bit underdone) and the Jalapeño beans(again a runnier sauce, more used to the thicker sauces with brown sugar in them I guess) My wife got the Brisket(she would have preferred it sliced as well) and the Roast Turkey. This was the major issue. Now when you think BBQ you would think Roast Turkey would come in a nice chunk or slice of breast meat. Well no the guy takes out what is basically a loaf of turkey meat, the variety you would get in the deli. Sliced it sandwich style almost. This was not expected at all and was disliked. We didn’t make any complaint til after, no sense in ruining a good night. I ended up emailing the corporate office and they were going to look into it. Then I get an email from the owner of that particular store. He explained that they have to go by what the food vendor provides and it is not really that great. He agreed with me but also offered up that is why the brisket and pork sell so well along with the chicken. He even offered a sample of the chicken if I came in and spoke with him next time I went there. Nice offer but I will pass. But I definitely will go back. Just avoid the turkey unless you want deli sliced.

quick and friendly service… generous portions(some sides were better than others), family friendly barbecue(both the brisket and pulled pork were very good with a few good sauces to choose from… can’t comment to the quality of the other meat choices)… certainly better than the fast food choices in the area.

We stopped by for takeout after seeing a movie next door. After spending the past 18 months in Texas we were hoping to find some comparable BBQ up north, we were sadly disappointed. The staff is friendly, helpful, and quick but the food is blah. We ordered the pulled pork and beef brisket, both were chopped up so much they were almost mush. The BBQ sauce flavors helped but it’s hard to cover up bad BBQ meat, the sides were extremely overcooked and flavorless. If you are looking for decent BBQ, look elsewhere.

Sorry, Dickey’s — you make the neighboring Taco Hell’s 7-layer-burrito seem pretty decent in comparison. Just not good. It’s not like the pulled pork sandwich and brisket were gross, but for boasting this house-smoked business it was pretty bland and boring. The potato salad was more like…(gag) …cold potato mayo soup. «House smoked» canned beans in ketchup soup. A major thanks to the guy behind the counter who dissuaded me from the mac n cheese; as if I didn’t believe his claim of nastiness he lifted the metal lid and showed me the greasy, crusty proof. So in lieu of the mac n cheese I awkwardly tried to distract myself from watching him assemble and mix, with his(gloved) hand, my mini caesar salad in the Dickey’s mini side dish cup. The staff folk were all very nice, helpful and friendly. «All» as in, we were doubly outnumbered = 2 patrons, 2 manager-types toward the front, 2 behind the counter guys. Pretty good predictor of the failure this place is destined to become. Two of the four reminded us to save room for the free self serve soft ice cream. Free don’t make this icy yet melty sludge that tastes like back-of-the-freezer vanilla gone bad taste good.

I’ve been here 5x and it’s been so wildly inconsistent I have to say I’m not going back. They seem to never ever ever have everything available to order… one day they’re out of the loaded baked mashed potato side, another day they’re out of brisket, another day they didn’t get their food delivery so they had to buy their ribs, etc. from the local Sam’s Club(what?), yes this is all true. They also say everything is made fresh at the store which I’m not disputing, but when you order your meat they pull it from a cabinet and it’s covered in saran wrap… uhh ok. The menu also says the plates«come with onion and pickles» but aside from the first time I went there they never put them in the to-go container. They also run out of the normal-sized side containers and so they have to put them in the smaller ones(granted they give you two of the small containers, but I question if they hold the same as the normal size), and it’s a pain bringing a million small containers home. I really wanted to like this place as it’s a mile from my house and I love BBQ. However, I’m very disappointed in the inconsistency and it feels like the franchise owners are new to the business and have no idea how to run a business, or they’ve decided to give up.

What New England has always missed is GREAT barbecue and now that Dicky’s has opened it’s first place outside of the south in Seekonk Ma, that slot is finally filled! Not only does this place smoke their meats on the premises but their choices of three sauces will satisfy any craving for that great taste. The food here is fresh, tastes great and is reasonably priced. Located where Quizno’s once sat(on the access road to Target) this is an informal place decorated like a fantasy of a southern snack shack. Nothing fancy about it but lots of room and friendly people. You serve yourself from a counter along one wall and then stop at a condiment area where the three sauces are available in large warming vats. Side dishes are also very good, great beans, onion strings and they really know how to make cole slaw. This is the best barbecue I’ve had outside of Kansas City and that’s saying a lot. PS: Dicky’s has free serve yourself soft serve ice cream every day and Kids eat free on Sundays! Great find.(I’ve eaten there twice on the same day!) Definitely worth the short trip from Providence.
