Cattlemens Restaurant

Hands down, one of the best steak dinners I have had in my many years of visiting good restaurants. Not only was the steak tender, juicy and flavored to perfection, but all of the side dishes, appetizers, and dessert were of equal quality. I have no problem in recommending this restaurant for a great meal.

So much goodness I don’t know where to start… oh yes the wonderful salad and sourdough bread. Yum Took my bf to eat here for his bday and it did not disappoint. He ordered the Steak & Alaskan King Crab and I had the Steak & Shrimp. Both were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Our sides consisting of Sweet Potatoes and regular baked potatoes were delightful. Service was great as well.

I cannot say one bad thing about my experience here last night! We came here for mine & my brother’s Birthday and I am sure glad we did! We arrived and were seated right away, the waitress was very sweet and the environment is very cozy. Love the western style décor, we sat right in front of the fire place & it was such a nice view. I ordered the special of the day which was the T-​Bone steak. I asked the waitress how much it was & she said $ 20. I thought that was great.
I had a code from when I signed up for Cattleman’s newsletter in doing so you get a free onion tumbleweed appetizer so we put that order in. You also get complimentary bread & salad, the bread was good but the salad was absolutely delicious! When the tumbleweed appetizer arrived it came with two sides, ranch & a delicious BBQ sauce. It tasted great… imagine a large thin pile of onion rings lol.
Now the T-​Bone steak was amazing! I was really taken back by how big it was! For $ 20 I was literally in shock… also I like mine cooked medium rare & it was cooked to perfection! It was juicy & flavorful, the fries I got as a side were ok… not great but good. For $ 20 I was blown away… definitely a steal!
Overall the waitress & servers were great! They were very attentive & so sweet! They kept checking on us throughout our entire time there… the only thing I will say is we waited about 15 minutes just to pay our tab. We ended up going to the hostess because it took way too long, but that is minor. I had a wonderful experience & will be returning for my Dad’s birthday! I recommend this restaurant if you love great food, and a cozy, family oriented environment!

I traveled from Hanford because of the great reviews online, and my family telling me that the Prime Rib is to die for. So after all of that I had to try it. Upon arriving I was told a 40 minutes wait, however we were seated within 10 minutes which was great. It was a super overestimation I guess the hostess was new or something because there was only one group of two in front of us.
The service was very slow we waited, and waited it took about 35 minutes to get our Prime Rib and New York Steak. Let’s just say the Prime Rib is not to die for 35 minutes for waiting for food that was under cooked, we were on a limited time line so I was unable to send it back or anything else. To add to the fact that my food was under cooked it took me 15 minutes to track down the waiter to have my drink refilled, when I finally got it refilled he gave me water instead of sprite, it surprised my taste buds, but in the end it was a honest mistake.
Overall the service was not worth the money or the 20 mile drive. Almost a hundred dollars for two people, and you get under cooked food.

Just had dinner there and it was not to good. First of all GREAT SERVICE! But the food was not good. The salad was not to good tasted like bottled dressing. The steak was to thick and dry and had no flavor. We had the New York. The baked potato was burnt and didn’t taste good. They need to get a better Quality of meat.

Katie made our evening here. She is a solid ten server. We also can not say enough about the awesome beef. Wife had rib eye, I had prime rib. Awesome we will be back and we hope to see Katie once again.

Went here with my parents after an interview in Visalia. The décor is fun and kitschy with an old western feel. My dad and I got the prime rib, which was excellent, and my mom got the loaded potato soup which she said was tasty as well. We ended our meal with the fried apple pie which was FANTASTIC! It had a perfectly crispy crust, wasn’t oily, and was nice and warm and went well with the ice cream it came with. Also, this would be a fun place for a birthday or other event– my mom got them to come by and sing me a congratulations song for my interview, and it all came with a cowboy hat and an extra scoop of ice cream! Overall, great meats, excellent desserts, and fun venue!

We came here for the 1^st time on New Years evening. Service was excellent and our steaks were Amazing !!! We will definitely be back. =)

Stopped by here driving up Highway 99. Worth the stop. Good baby back ribs. Friendly staff. Surprisedly, lots of customers here considering it’s such a small town.

This is a wonderful place to eat! It is a tradition for my family to eat Christmas Eve dinner here and I wanted to surprise them this year by showing up. The staff helped me and let me know after they were seated. It was a great surprise and thank you for helping. Our waitress, Julie, was the best! Our table went from three people to five and she never missed a beat. Thank you, Cattleman’s for making this a Christmas Eve to remember!

Visiting from out of town and stop by a steakhouse. Was told by locals that cattlemen’s was the best in town. First thing first, they are a pack house so being unable to fulfill requests at a timely manner is understandable, but after multiple requests and still no results looses a star. Secondly, the food takes a long period of time till it is brought out, 30 – 40 mins. Is understandable but waiting longer is ridiculous. Lastly, the food was subpar. We might of came on an off night, but I give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall, I see potential but as far as a good steakhouse. I advise to check elsewhere. We literally went to a burger joint after.

Probably one of the best T-​Bone steak I have had in my entire life. It was cooked perfectly and the taste was absolutely flavorful. The house steaksauce complimented the flavor and texture of the steak wonderfully.
My wife ordered a regular steak and it was super bland. Yuck! But she liked it. The potato skins was very good. HUGE potatoes with real bacon. I took a point off because it was pricey as heck. Geez. We paid almost $ 80 for our meal. Overall, I would only come here on special occasions. Solid A– in my book.

Just had cattlemens yesterday with family and it was great! Everything we got was worth its price. Krystal the waitress was super cool too. We all ordered the Pete’s special and my mom got the baby back ribs. All delicious! :) thanks!

Loved the Salmon, sweet potato, and salad!!! Although it took a while to be served, the service was great! I especially enjoyed talking with the hostess afterwards. Whenever I’m in the area, I’ll definitely be back!

Cattlemans has been here for decades. Always great food and the best service. You can’t go wrong with anything. I had the half rack ribs. Outstanding!!! My wife had the fillet mignon. Sooooo freakin juicy. Melts in your mouth. Make a reservation. They do get very busy. Huge bar to wait in though.

This is not my first time here nor my last. My dad and his parents used to come and eat here when he was a kid. Now he brings us and we love it!
If you’re looking for some awesome steaks, full of flavor, cut and cooked to perfection. Then Cattelmen’s is that place!
The food here is jam packed with flavor, the staff is great and nothing beats that mid western vibe.
Katie or Katy helped us tonight. She was super attentive, friendly and quick on getting our food to our table asap. Thanks Katie or Katy we’ll be back and see ya soon!

I’m finally done with Cattlemen’s. I grew up in Selma and have many memories of coming to Cattlemen’s with my parents. Those memories were great but the current ones not so much. Cattlemen’s always had good food and was a gem in Selma. I think over the last six years the food and service has gone down. This last visit had to be one of worst, I thought i was being Punk’d. To be clear, this review is regarding the bar dinning area. My first complaint is what happen to the Bar Menu /​Specials??? It’s now only for a couple of hours and not the greatest. The new bar menu /​specials are great if you don’t work during the day. So here we go, my last visit at Cattlemen’s.
We have a seat an one of the larger round high tables. We tell our waiter, Ricky, that we would be eating dinner in the bar. So we order drinks and are brought a menu. We order an appetizer of hot wings and our beers. The hot wings come out to our table, but he have no napkins or plates. I ask the waiter for napkins and he points to the small paper napkins that drinks are placed on and says «napkins». I guess that’s my fault, I clarified and asked for the large napkins meant for your hands and some plates. He returns with napkins and small bread plates.
We eat our wings and drink our large beers. I finish my large beer and we finish our wings but the waiter still hasn’t come to take our dinner order. When i get the chance, I order another beer, Coors Light, as we continue to wait. The waiter comes and brings me a Shock Top. I tell him I didn’t order a Shock Top but a Coors light. He gave the beer to my buddy and later returns with a Coors Light. The Coors Light is ¾ full and the rest is foam, and he gives that beer to my buddy too. Who wants a beer filled with foam when you are paying a good price for it.
So we get to order and get the huge ¾ lb Motherload Cheeseburger. The waiter leaves the menus with us and after what seemed like forever brings the food. Burger was dry and the fries were cold. Plus to my surprise he also brought out mashed potatoes and a baked potato… which we didn’t order or want. We never got bread or salad. My buddy asks about the salad which the waiter brings out with ranch, he never asked what kind of dressing we wanted.
The salad looked nice and was in a large metal bowl. We ask the waiter for a plate or bowl so we could serve our salad. The waiter asks if we want a to go box for the salad. Again this must have been our fault, we clarified that we would like plates to serve our salad in while we were eating our dinner because we never got anything except the small bread plate.

We went back to celebrate my birthday with some family this last week.
We were sat promptly at our reserved time and our waitress was awesome. She was very eager to please and wanted our evening to be enjoyable while we were there.
We started with some drinks that came out way too strong. Our waitress asked how they were and was thorough in making sure they were perfect. When she realized they weren’t she promptly replaced them with a different recipe. (Old recipe margaritas instead of the sauza) The new ones were fine. The bar was out of strawberries, which is surprising because they can be bought fresh, less than two miles from the restaurant.
Appetizers were fantastic. We had the artichoke cheese dip.
For dinner I ordered baby back ribs with fries. It was very obvious to us that our waitress took a break between us ordering and getting our food. It was a much longer wait than we typically have here. Our waitress brought out our dinners and we noticed there were no fries. Before we could say anything she said, «They are making fresh fries because yours were cold.» (Yup she was on break) the kids meals didn’t have fries but my plate did when she brought it out. The fries were cold and had that stale old fry taste. She brought out two large platters of fries to make up for it. The ribs were not good. They had sat out for awhile. I doubt they were even cooked for me. They seemed old and as if they had been cooked an hour before I ordered them. Just didn’t taste fresh. It was the same all around with the main dishes. Everything seemed as if it had sat out. They also were out of Italian dressing. For an establishment that is open from 4 to 10pm, I expect better.
Our waitress had to take the brunt of a bad situation and I feel really bad for her. It had nothing to do with her and everything to do with how the restaurant is ran. (Kitchen, management and break times.)
Not that I care, but remember the note in the first sentence? It was my birthday celebration… Yeah I’m totally fine not getting embarrassed with a quartet and a hat, but they totally forgot! No hat, no ice cream and no song! That’s why we came that evening!!! Anyways. It’s pretty clear that this restaurant needs some fixing. In the mean time I’ll take the drive to Fresno for BBQ food.

I wish they had one of these in Massachusetts because their food is phenomenal. This place gets very busy and has seating capacity for half the city so you are going to have to wait to get in and service may seem slow but that certainly doesn’t mean lack of quality. The quality of the food is superb and both my steak and my dad’s melted in our mouths because they were cooked to perfection. The sides alone (mushrooms, onions, beans) all could be eaten on their own because they were perfectly cooked and seasoned.
I read a lot of the reviews for this place and find it hard to believe that people have such bad experiences but don’t give them the opportunity to fix it. They just complain for the sake of complaining. Every restaurant serves tap water!!! It’s not a surprise. The wait staff is quite large and they never stop moving. These people work really hard for their paycheck so if you are not willing to wait then you are at the wrong place.
I would go back again and again if I lived in the area. Unfortunately I was just visiting so sadly I am back in Massachusetts now. I highly recommend going to this place if you are a steak lover. My reputation here on Unilocal precedes myself so its your choice if you want to believe a complainer or a Unilocaler!!!

First time trying this place today. I came for dinner with my boyfriend and his parents. We had an occasion we wanted to celebrate. We were seated fairly quickly but sat for a while before anyone came to get our drink orders. Server came back with drinks quickly and again, took a while before he came back to take our food order.
When our food arrived it looked and smelled great. However, 2 out of 3 steaks were cooked incorrectly. I ordered a rib eye medium rare, while bf ordered the NY steak Medium. His dad ask for medium well and it came out with some red but he didn’t mind. My steak was pretty much well done. Very little pink, pretty tough. Bf’s steak was almost raw. We asked sever for some steak sauce since well I was gonna be eating cardboard, he never returned with it and I had to ask someone else who immediately brought it to the table. I ate ½ my steak hoping A1 would improve it, sadly, it didn’t.
Never got offered a refill on my ice tea. I waited for my ice to melt for something to drink. He never brought the water that I asked for either. Thankfully he didn’t forget the beer orders.
Bf’s dad’s steak was good… Seasoned well.
Bf’s steak was raw so we took it home, can update after he microwaves it for lunch tmrw.
Mine was tough and seasoned well but I had to drench in A1 to moisten it a bit to eat.
Bf’s mom just had a salad which had way more iceberg than she liked but she said it was still good.
Manager tried to fix it by offering to cook my bf’s steak longer or making 2 new ones or dessert but we just wanted to go home, it was a long day. In the end he gave us a discount on our meal which was appreciated.
Maybe server got tied up with larger parties or whatever. Who knows,. Overall, I feel that once I mentioned something they tried to fix it which I appreciated.
I’ll give this place another shot one day and hopefully I can update my review with a more positive one.
