We were on a wine and beer crawl on 95 N on our way from Jacksonville to DC(via myrtle beach). This was about 10 mins detour. We loved how quiet and pleasant the property was. The girls working there were very welcoming. The wines were ok. It did not suit our taste much as most of them had a tarty finish. We ended up buying a bottle and drinking it at the patio. The 5 off 10 voucher from Unilocal made it a sweet deal for us.

This was our day trip destination this Saturday and being only 3 hours or so from Virginia Beach not a bad trip, the winery is only 15 minutes from I95 and the town has plenty of restaurants. These are my wife’s favorite wines sweet and tasty, i go for the more dry and they do have a few of those a nice in between is the Tar Heel Red very casual and drinkable. Prices on all wines are reasonable and the tasting room is well done and clean with a nice little gift area. The gentleman who did our tasting was pleasant but he was just coming on so there was a little wait for a tasting he was knowledgeable and engaging. The only issue was they seemed under staffed she did tastings, register and tours. While she was doing a tour he had to do tasting and register which takes away from the tasting experience. All in all a great winery(we bought 3 cases) and we will be back!

I have to say that normally I’m pretty verbose when it comes to ranting and raving about something I love but this experience for me was simply put– just blah. The set up is cozy and and the staff was kind but not incredibly engaging. The tasting was done so fast and there was hardly any exchange of conversation. Compared to other places like Gregory and Duplin which kept us all captivated with stories and conversation Hinnant was less interesting and less interested in the customers. Perhaps it was a long day for them… Not too sure but I thoroughly enjoyed the other wineries over this experience. The whole thing felt rushed. We were provided an opportunity to pick grapes but I think I declined because I wasn’t that thrilled to stick around especially once learning that we came apparently during harvest and we’re not allowed to go on a tour. That put a damper on things as this was quite a long ride just to sip wine. The wine itself however wasn’t too bad and it also wasn’t that great! Sorry to offer so little.

Amazed at how big this vineyard was and the variety of wines they had to offer! This is our second wine tasting at a NC vineyard but will need to do more as there are many now in NC. This vineyard has a great tasting room and porch to enjoy your wine while overlooking the vineyards. They also have live music sometimes. This was the first vineyard we tasted the muscadine grape wines. Muscadine wines have a unique aroma and taste. We would recommend coming for a relaxing afternoon.

This place was a breath of fresh air. The wine was tasty and the staff were nice. I like the offerings of local cheese and food as well as the novelty shopping area. The seats are limited and there were people waiting off and on but not for long. I’ll definitely be back.

I was at Hinnant Vineyards recently for an event. The view out the back is very picturesque, and the patio is great. The staff was attentive and friendly, and there weren’t any complaints with the venue itself. Our buffet line took us into a side room where giant tanks of wine apparently live, and I have to say that glimpsing the inner workings of the winery was pretty fun. It was very unassuming from the road, but once inside and out the back door everything looked very nice. Unfortunately, the wine is not very good at all. The muscadine wines are sweet to the point of being cloying, and even though I think they have drier wines they were not offered to guests. I think that you’ll have a very nice time if you attend an event here, though you won’t visit the bar very often.

This is a rather«grown up» winery with a view so spectacular suddenly you feel like you are either in the South of France or 3rd page of Jane Austin novel. I am talking purple sleeping wines with a fog descending on them like delicate lacy napkin. The place you want to get either married or drunk, or both but with class. The tasting itself was rather hasty, with two teenage girls closing the register or doing some other housekeeping choirs. I personally didn’t care for the lack of Christmas magic but appreciated giving me and my bff visiting from another state, some space. Now the wines. Same muscadine grapes as everywhere in NC only some wines were absolutely spectacular must-haves. Such as Blanc du Bois, semi-sweet flavorful delight, so delicate yet tasty we fell quiet for a while. It’s a little bit more expensive than others($ 13 per bottle) but so worth it! We also had some«Carlos» wine which tasted good in winery, but upon bringing it home acquired some metallic perfume taste to it. Maybe it’s just a temperature change. Also there was some fun wine named after Ava Gardner(did you know that she grew up in Smithfield?!), just as complex and delightful as the legend herself. In general experience was fun: they gave us each a small glass with the name of the winery on it(free) and my friend was able to ship some of this bottled awesomeness home(why don’t they do it in every winery?) I cannot wait to return here in summer and get my Mr. Darcy drunk.

First of all, Jean made our outing very nice. She was pleasant and humorous. Secondly, she was very knowledgable of all the wines. Most of the wines were sweet because they use muscadine grapes. Too sweet for my taste but the party I was with loved them. Jean offered me a separate tasting because I prefer dry wines. This was an added bonus. Overall, the place was excellent and you can’t beat $ 5 for wine tasting and a glass… Kudos from the out of towners!!!

My girlfriend and I scheduled a tour which was to include a walk through of the entire operation and the tasting. They were extremely unprepared and were unable to show us more than half of their operation(in my estimation). The girl who took us on the tour was kind and knowledgeable, and the tasting was generous. However, the entire tour plus tasting took LESSTHAN10MINUTES. The $ 5 tasting would have been much more worth our while. Would not recommend scheduling a tour.

We were treated to a memorable tasting, opted for the $ 5, 8 wines+wine glass to tk home option! Win win;) Carried sandwiches from the Hula deli in Selma, could lunch on their porch with a glass of their Blanc Du Bois. Their driest muscadine is a keeper and so is the Electric Pelican according to humble me:)

What a great place to visit, just past the cute little town of Pine Level. I love all that North Carolina has to offer. We’ve been down Hwy 70 many times but Saturday I finally noticed the sign for Hinnant Vineyards and we decided to stop in. While they didn’t offer Wine Tours during the time we were there(but they do during other times), we did a free Wine Tasting of 3 wines. I’m not a fan of the Muscadine Grape, but they offer a few other varieties to choose from. I ended up bringing home a bottle of Blanc du Bois, a Semi-Sweet wine with another variety of grape they grow there. It was cool and relaxing in the shop, the staff was friendly, and outside is a beautiful, working Vineyard, with a few tables in the shade if you choose to purchase a glass or a bottle to enjoy outside. I’m looking forward to going back again, maybe bringing out of town guests, and trying some other Vineyards in North Carolina too!

First off I really like the sweet muscadine wines so hinnant is a favorite stop for me — the staff is awesome and the location is perfect. A great way to spend a few hours on a weekend or bring out of town guests to. If you are looking for a building that resembles an tuscan villa or for a bistro then this is not your stop — if you are looking for great sweet wine by a great family then this is for you. I wish they would have more events like Sippin into Summer which was just awesome!

Great southern hospitality! The wine pourers were nice and knowledgable of the wines. Most of the wines were sweet because they use muscadine grapes. We liked most of them especially the Tarheel Red which is sweet and the 2010 Norton which was semi dry and a great wine for the non sweet wine drinkers. The wine gift store has cute things including jam, bags and stickers. There is a great outside porch with fans, tables and chairs! Our puppy had a great time too! The wines were all reasonably priced and they had a great 3 pack special that we bought two of. We will definitely be back!

I wasn’t particularly impressed with the muscadine grapes. With that said, the wines were fun, fruity and sweet. The staff was perky, and it was a good stop along the way. $ 5 for a tasting includes the glass.

Amazingly sweet wines, staff, and small but beautiful tasting area/bar. Walked away with the Carolina Wildflower and the Strawberry Wine, but would’ve walked away with a membership if I lived in NC. Check the place out if your close, and if you’re not close — its still probably worth the trip.

The wine here is GREAT! We did the full tasting for $ 5 which gets you 8 wines of your choice and the glass to take home. Our favorite was the Electric Pelican. Wines were sweet… but you can’t expect anything less than that in North Carolina. These are muscadine grapes. SWEET! So don’t complain! That’s why people LIKE this wine! They lost a star in the rating because I felt rush. We were there for 10 minutes… and had 8 wines. The workers were young and weren’t interested in conversation. Just pouring.

Great find in NC! I’m not a fan of sweet wines… or muscadine grape wines, but this place had some great choices. Very nice atmosphere and the staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful during the tasting!

After living in pine level for a few years now we finally decided to have a taste test. We went with open minds and we both like sweet wines. We really liked a few of the wines. But we didn’t like the muscadine centered ones. They all had a smell we didn’t really care for. We gathered that was the smell of the grape. We ended up buying a bottle of Carlos as it was my husbands favorite. I would prob go back and buy the pomegranate wine.

Ok if you have never had Muscadine wine… you are missing out. Most people that are average wine drinkers(not being a snob! Just being real!) love sweet wines and if that is you. THENORDER A FEWBOTTLES! Charity and I go on a fall road trip south and we try and experience some local cuisine and culture and this place hit home! It wasn’t the North Carolina twang it was the wine that put the smile on our face! The scuppornong wine was amazing and cheap! Almost all of the wines are UNDER $ 10… you can’t find that in the Northern Va area at any wineries! This place is a top notch. too bad the NC wine country hasn’t taken off quiet yet… HELPSUPPORTLOCALWINERIESANDORDERWINEFROMTHISPLACE!!!
