Zom Hee Chinese Restaurant

This is one of the last good traditional Chinese restaurants in the area. It is a little dated in décor, but they have a nice view in the dinning room and the food is always excellent. I love their Chicken Chow Mien. The wife loves their Sweet and Sour Chicken and their Lo mien. I love their little pickle dish they serve to the table. I wish I could get more each time. Their Shrimp in Lobster sauce is great. I usually judge a Chinese restaurant on how they do with this dish. The shrimp are always fresh and cleaned properly and never smells fishy. Their Lobster sauce is really good too.
If you get here before 6pm, you get a free glass of wine with the early bird dinner.
I haven’t tried any of their drinks from the bar, but they always look good.
They do have a lunch only buffet, but I have not been there for that. I love that they are a sit down and be waited on Chinese restaurant and always fresh food. The wait staff are always a pleasure.
You also get an option for a pot of hot chinese tea with your meal too.

We were so impressed with this place. Full bar, great food and service. Awesome lounge area and dining room is festive yet elegant.

The beef and shrimp (2) dish was tasty but the beef was tough and vegetables were mostly onion and boc choy. Disappointing.

Like the food but when you tell them you are Allergic to shellfish and they cook everything in the same oil, it can be deadly. My mother got very very sick and they did nothing about it. Nor will any lawyer take a case because there’s not enough money involved. That’s bullshit. And the sad thing is my mother was a regular customer there and the owner knows her personally. You would think he would’ve been a little more supportive. Just shows what kind of people you’re dealing with. Carmas a bitch my friend

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant. Service is wonderful, price is reasonable, it’s authentic, and the quality of food is outstanding! I had Sesame chicken. The chicken was tender white meat. Absolutely not greasy at all. They know how to do it. What a lovely experience.

Best chinese restaurant and lounge in town! Food and service are consistently good. Cool bar/​lounge to hang out at too.

This is a classic American Chinese restaurant transported from the 1950’s (with a little 80’s wood panel makeover) including an unintentionally retro lounge bar, glassware with frosted red dragons and ridiculously cheap cocktails like Singapore Sling that come in themed glasses, trimmed with fresh fruit and colored umbrellas. The drinks are sweet (and often pink) but highly potent. I had the Mandarin Style Pork which was great. They made pineapple fried rice for us, even though it wasn’t on the menu; everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. Service was good as well.

Is there another retro Chinese restaurant with a liquor license in the 727 besides Zom Hee? Nice place. Attentive service. Great holiday hours. Excellent selection of mid-​century cocktails. The food is good, mostly? The rumaki is a little dry. The crab rangoon is excellent. Floor beneath our booth was a little messy but that might have just been a one-​off thing. Have a cocktail and some duck.

We’re from out of town, and this was thee worst Chinese we’ve ever had. Three of us ordered the General Tso’s Chicken and the sauce was a sweet and sour with regular hot sauce. The crab ragoon was fried triangle toast with cream cheese. Will not be returning.

Came here on Christmas and it was so packed so we ordered to go. Came pretty quickly (20 minutes?). Ordered duck with black mushrooms (15.25) which also had a few pieces of other vegetables (onions, snow peas, carrots, mushrooms). Also got sweet and sour fish (12.95). The sweet and sour sauce was pretty mediocre and so was the portion size. And the «fish» was more than 60% batter.
The door to their kitchen in the back was open and there were probably like twenty people back there including a few kids :(
Parking was full and there was more parking further in the back that’s labeled for the restaurant.

Zom Hee is one of those rare Chinese Restaurants where you can sit down and have table service and a waiter or you sit in the lounge and have a drink.
Either way the food is great much more authentic and higher quality than any of the other takeout or Chinese restaurants nearby. You can tell many of the items which are frozen at other Chinese restaurants are actually made in house here. If you like Chinese food this is definitely a must try. Huge menu lots of choices of the traditional typical dishes and many that I’ve never seen or heard of before. Entrees are plated up with a covered dish and large enough to share with others at your table. A few house made soups that are in a huge bowl in easily meal sized as well.
If you’re in the mood for some sit-​down Chinese food at a restaurant that’s been around for at least 30 years and doesn’t need to change a thing Zom Hee won’t disappoint.

Very quality Chinese food and friendly service. For takeout orders, the owner will always write in — on the tip line if paying by credit card. Very unexpected, but I like that he wants you to pay for service only when you’re being served. Nice touch!

This place came highly recommended by a colleague and she wasn’t lying. WOW. I’d give this place 10 stars if I could.
The décor is outdated, which is fitting for a 50’s style Chinese establishment. The host/​owner was warm and welcoming and chatted with us for a bit. Our server was pleasant, helpful and efficient. Food came out quickly and with perfect timing.
NOW THE FOOD… wonton soup was the best ever. The smallest serving was chock full of meat, pasta and veggie. Lots of flavor. The eggrolls were large, crunchy and not greasy at all. Served with duck sauce and hot mustard that will clear your sinuses? Yowza! Our entrees were Seafood Delight and Sesame Chicken. The sauces were amazing and plentiful. Lots of meat and veggies. My serving was so large, I had lunch leftovers for the next day. Husband ate almost all of his entrée :)
Total bill w/​tip was $ 38. Not bad at all for authentic, tasty Chinese food. We will definitely be back (with our friends and family!)

Awwwwww found our Chinese restaurant. Excellent food in a nice sit down restaurant. Food was very good, service a bit slow but we didn’t care after we got our delicious food. We are from the Detroit area originally and finding a Chinese establishment to our northern taste buds are hard to find. If you are missing our Almond Boneless Chicken, they have it here and it is YUMMY!!!

Decent American-​style Chinese/​Polynesian food sadly disappeared in Pinellas County for many years. So sad?
We were left to just suffer and endure strip-​mall, carbon-​copy, «Chinese» take out. You know the kind. They popped up like culinary weeds, all over Pinellas county and elsewhere.
Sure, those may get a dish or two right, but overall are mostly depressing. The fried rice is yellow (??), the meats are of gristle-​substandard quality, all fried stuff has a «bad-​oil» taste, and the sauce flavors are minimal, at best: sweet, hot, or just cheap-​soy-​sauce-​flavored?
Then by accident, I discovered ZOM HEE. Wow!
My friends and I all agree, walking into the place is almost like a minor time-​warp. Back to the days when water chestnuts and pineapple were considered «exotic.»
When you enter, it almost feels like walking into a missing scene from a Tarantino film? You will never understand this unless you visit in person, so I will not expand further, nor spoil the surprise. Just GO!
And please don’t let the «retro» pedigree fool you… ZOM HEE makes some seriously tasty and affordable food!
Cocktail fans should definitely visit the bar! Very inexpensive and potent retro/​tiki drink concoctions, some even served in vintage «Tiki» mugs! My friend swears by the «Tahitian Scorpion!» I really enjoy their «St. Pete Sling.»
As for the food? A great way to set a baseline here is to just sample the won ton soup, egg rolls, and fried rice.
ALL are top-​notch! Actual BROWN fried rice? Wow! Flavored with REAL soy sauce? Just how long since it’s been you’ve enjoyed that?
Zom Hee has a large and expansive menu. I have sampled almost everything now, over the years. Nothing has ever disappointed…
My menu favorites? The «Woo Hip Har» is a simple, but magical shrimp dish. The «Woo Shu» chicken is also a must-​have. The «Mandarin Pork» is also very good, but request mild or you will definitely feel the heat!
As for the service? Family-​owned, you will be treated like family too — Kenny, Dave, and the whole crew are awesome! I have been going here enough that they now know me by name, even when I just simply phone in a simple take-​out order? Nice…
To conclude, if you want to experience the BEST in American-​style Chinese/​Polynesian food, drinks, and décor… A ZOM HEE visit is a MUST !!

Zoom Hee is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area! Consistently clean atmosphere, friendly service and fresh food! If you can dine in it is worth it! The décor is to that of a 1950’s restaurant.
My family doesn’t stray from our favorites which is wonton/​egg drop soup, vegetable soup with tofu, hot sour soup, schezwan w/​tofu & general tso chicken.
Personal favorite is the vegetable soup with tofu. There are a variety of vegetables that keep your palate entertained. It is refreshing like a phở without noodles & meat. Low calories!
General tso chicken can be over cooked and hard to chew at some Chinese restaurants, NOT at Zom Hee! The chicken is juicy with a batter that is the right amount of crisp. The sauce is thick and substantial, mild spice.
Szechuan veggies with tofu is packed with peppers, pea pods, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and onions to name a few. The tofu is sautéed and cut into thin strips. It feels like a guilt free dish if you don’t eat it with rice!

Came here today with my husband and a friend. Several people were waiting for take out orders, but we opted to dine in since it was our first visit.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. They have a huge cocktail menu. I got an awesome piña colada, however, they gave my friend a Scorpion drink when he really wanted a Mai Thai. It was good, so we didn’t ask for it to get changed. They offer hot tea, water, and small appetizers which is nice.
Our food was very good overall. They have an extensive lunch specials/​combination platters menu and most are around $ 9. There is something for everyone on the menu. I opted for the Hung Tofu dish, which had a little too much sauce for my taste, but was a huge step up from other Chinese food I’ve had.
I recommend this place for anyone looking to try better quality Chinese food as well as anyone in the mood for cocktails under $ 6. We will be back!

In our quest for good Oriental cuisine in Pinellas County, we stopped by the highly rated Zom Hee and we were not disappointed. It is located in the back of a white stucco strip center on the north side of Park Blvd. just a little west of Starkey Road in Seminole, Florida.
Although the restaurant is unassuming on the outside, the interior is full of 1950’s Oriental kitsch. It is quite a large place with lots of booths and a separate bar area serving thirst quenching Tiki adult beverages and all sorts of libations.
The menu is expansive and quite varied. While we mulled over the menu, we ordered the Zom Hee Pupu platter for two ($ 12.95). Being a child of the 50’s, I can appreciate an ample, delicious Pupu platter. (see pic) It had fork tender ribs, huge chicken wings, their good egg rolls, krab rangoon, fried shrimp, beef teriyaki and rumaki. Even the rumaki was good and I’m not the biggest fan of chicken livers but their bacon wrapped and fried livers were tasty.
For entrées, we ordered the Pineapple Shrimp ($ 11.95), the Duck with Black Mushrooms ($ 12.95) and the Subgum Lo Mein ($ 10.25). (see pics) The shrimp (8) were covered in a sweet sauce with pineapple pieces and maraschino cherries. The duck was huge, moist and tasty. The lo mein was what would normally be called the ‘House Special’ lo mein other places with chicken, pork and shrimp. All of the dishes were piping hot and delicious.
Despite the large crowd on this Friday night, the staff was speedy and friendly. I am already planning on our next visit. I will try to work my way through their menus of both food and Tiki drinks (extra umbrellas)! Please give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

Brandon and I came here for date night last week, and we were both impressed. The food was very good. They were super busy though and only had one waitress so the guy at the front came around to make sure everyone was doing okay. The quality of the food was awesome, I ordered sweet and sour chicken, and i was very surprised when an entire chicken breast came out. It wasn’t what I was expecting but it was definitely good. The fried rice was on point too, I’ve been craving fried rice lately so this definitely did the trick for me :) Brandon ordered the Sesame chicken and he usually isn’t a big fan of Chinese food but he was impressed and really enjoyed his meal, his came with white rice. I wish they had more smaller combo platters at the front of their menu, they were awesome deals but there weren’t very many choices.
Overall very delicious and good experience.

The best Chinese that I’ve had in Pinellas County. I was freaking out after I located here from out-​of-​state. I tried multiple Chinese restaurants and each was worse than the next. Sadly, I gave up Chinese.
After a trip up North, I had a determination to find a comparable Chinese restaurant. I gave this place a chance and they came through. Love the food! Love the staff! Love the management!
The restaurant is large and accommodating. When you call in an order for pick up, it’s ready lickity split. The management is also happy to accommodate you with any substitutions or special needs.
Highly recommend this place!
