I am originally from the northeast where Verizon Fios has a firm grip on the entire market. I was used to the quality of services and the price that Verizon offered. And then, I moved to western S. Carolina and met Northland Communications. Northland is the company that has thrived on the lack of cable options in the area. Firstly, their price was not competitive. For the same price(~$ 120) that Verizon offered me for both internet and tv, I only got tv with Northland. Secondly, their hardware is outdated. My Northland DVR topbox was this gigantic device that wouldn’t even fit my TV stand! There is no on-demand video services with the DVR. When I called and asked, Northland said the On Demand came with the remote but they offered no on-demand video service. I should have known when I saw that the channels listing was not produced in alphabetical order! Who in their right mind would do that?! The user interface for their top box was pix-elated. I felt like I traveled back in time when cable was a luxury. I am very happy that AT&T finally manages to extend their cable service to my area. I tried both DIRECTV and DISH but they could not get a clear view of the southern atmosphere for satellite signals in my location. I am now paying $ 100 for BOTH internet and TV and receiving numerous discounts every month because I coupled those two services with my cell phone. Free HBO for three months(by the way, Northland did not have that promotion when everybody else seemed to have it. It;s Game of Thrones season come on). AT&T really came to the rescue on this one. The price was competitive. Modern hardware. I almost laughed when Northland asked me what they could do to keep me. Do yourself a favor if you are in the area: get DIRECTV, DISH, or your last option AT&T U-verse. Go brand names. Don’t waste your time with Northland. The pricing alone should put you off. Best of luck.

1 star is to high of a rating. SENECA/CLEMSON SC Area. Avoid Northland if at all possible. Multiple issues with them over the years. We now have cable only, I don’t trust them with phone/internet. Quality of cable signal is inconsistent, the HD channel assignments keep changing(QAM signal, no digital box), what used to be on a digital channel moves around so you have to keep hunting for it. My neighbor also uses them for internet and it goes down at least once a month. When you go up to the local office, the customer service people are clueless. This time I went up to see why HD channels keep moving around. She said there was no way for me to get HD without a cable box. Really?(They offer a few HD channels on basic cable which you can watch on any newer TV.) She argued with me that it was not possible to get something I was already getting. No understanding of their own product offering or basic understanding of TV signals. Not the first time I have gone in and found the rep does not understand the basics of their own company they are representing, let alone trying to provide service to the customers. VERYSAD that Northland can’t train their employees. Just put them in a seat at the front desk and wish them luck. I just left. The last time I was up there to find out where Spike TV went, they said they dropped Viacom channels. Ok, I get that. If Viacom is outrageous, no problem, drop them, but reduce my bill. No dice. As more competition comes in, Northland Communications will continue to drop customers and go out of business. Can’t wait.

I had to give a star but didn’t want to. They just don’t have a high octane company in the Seneca Clemson area. I’ve had them for 2 years and the techs don’t seem to run great products with mass loads through them. Poor service; fuzzy or just not consistent signal. Never fast; 6 Mbps to 24 Mbps is terrible. They just don’t have it together. If you can avoid them I would say avoid, but local businesses are the best but these guys need some big corporate work.

Had Northland Cable/Phone/Internet in Seneca, SC installed yesterday. Will have it removed and terminated with extreme prejudice ASAP. The good: Internet and phone work fine, the installer was on time and did a good job. The bad & the ugly: I can’t believe the lousy cable service this company offers in the year 2015. Only ONEHBO channel in HD(out of 7). ONE! No Showtime/Cinemax/Starz channels in HD. NONE! ZIP! NADA! Also no HBO-Go, Showtime-Anytime or related streaming services(which SHOULD come free with the premium channel subscription). No HD for Turner Classic Movies, ID Channel etc. Those are all ugly low-def displays that look like they are being transmitted over-the-air out of Russia, circa 1959. And I have the most«premium» cable package Northland offers. The remote has a big white ONDEMAND button. Ha! Ha! Stupid customer, you thought this cable company offered On Demand? Guess what? Pressing that button displays a message that On Demand is «temporarily unavailable.» Judging by my experience, that means«permanently.» And like the streaming services, On Demand is supposed to be automatically provided free with premium channel subscriptions. Maybe my expectations are too high. I had Time-Warner Cable in Los Angeles for many years, which occasionally had its own issues. But for roughly the same price as Northland, TWC delivered HD and On Demand for just about every channel in their lineup. So why did I sign up? The previous owners of my house had Northland and liked it. And I wanted to support a local company. But there are times when you’re better off doing business with the Giant Impersonal Evil Conglomerate. And this appears to be one of those times.

This is, by far, the worst internet service I’ve ever paid for. It’s almost $ 70/mo. For that price you get a variety of rude unhelpful representatives in various departments that will either lie to you or blow you off entirely, and you get daily connectivity issues(poor or no signal). The only reason I am still a customer is because I am an online student and the apartment complex I live at has an exclusive contract with Northland. I am desperately trying to move, but I am having difficulties in finding a vacancy until August. At one point, our internet went out the entire weekend. When i called on Friday evening they did the usual dance of «turn it off, wait 60 seconds, turn it back on», «unplug the unit and plug it back in» and the magnificent«I see that you now have full connect. Oh, you don’t have any connection? We will have to call you back». Nobody ever called us back. I called back on Monday after being as patient as possible, and I talk to 4 different people(having to re-explain the situation with each person). After more calls, lies, miscommunications, blow-offs, And a whole lot of rudeness, I was told that a technician came out on the Wednesday(while nobody was home) after the problem began 5 days earlier and reported there were no longer connectivity issues. I then had to actually call again because they had no plans to credit me for having unreliable to nonexistent service. Still in the process of getting credited. If the issues persist, a complaint to the FCC is in order along with a letter to the attorney general.

We have cable and internet through Northland and it’s been a terrible experience. The internet goes out almost daily and it’s not uncommon for the cable box to go out as well. It takes forever for them to connect you to someone when you call and when they finally do connect you the operators have no idea what they’re doing. We explained that our cable box wasn’t working and the man on the phone claimed he wasn’t a technician so he couldn’t do anything to help us. Instead of trying to find someone to assist us he simply said he didn’t know when someone would be available and the earliest he could send someone out was Tuesday… It was a Thursday.
