Love the convenience of Gimme Java and love their coffee. BUT — how many times do I have to walk to the coffee shop only to find it not open when they are supposed to be open. It happened again yesterday and we weren’t the only ones waiting for them to open who ultimately just walked away to go somewhere else. Advice to the owner: Coffee is mostly consumed in the morning(when addicts like me need it most) and many people work in the morning. So why not open at 6:30 or 7 and most importantly — open when you say you’ll open. The fact that the morning crew at Gimme Java can’t seem to get there in time to open — even at the incredibly late(for a coffee shop) hour of 8am — is a real hindrance to their long-term success. I would much rather support a local business than Starbucks — but if you can’t open on time, I can’t give you my money or my support.

I was looking for a Starbucks and I stumbled upon this place. The coffee was excellent– bold but not skunky like Sbux. Albert made me feel like a million bucks, and even spoke Slovak to me! Conveniently located on Van Aken right across from the Lee Rd. RTA rapid(light rail) station. I’ll be back for sure!

The usual hot and cold coffee/tea options with free WiFi and plenty of room to camp out to work outside the home. CNN plays in the background to give you the usual coffee shop background din. Plenty of breakfast and lunch options are available for meeting over a light meal.

I’ve been here a few times. It’s a typical after-school hangout spot, so expect it to be packed and noisy with teenagers between 3 – 4 during the school year. Depending on the time of day, seating can be inadequate. At times they seem understaffed because I’ve had to wait longer than usual for a café to be helped while another person’s drink was being prepared. I’ve had their white chocolate mocha(hot), which I liked but their iced mocha tastes like straight up chocolate milk. The egg sandwiches are very good and reasonably priced, served on ciabatta bread. They have flies which can become irritating. The owners are very friendly and will talk to anyone as though they’ve known them forever but don’t come here if you expect to loiter, you will be asked to purchase something or leave. I feel that’s worth noting because cafes are pretty unpredictable on how they react to non-customer loungers.

Horrible coffee. Horrible service. The shop was dirty with evidence of bugs and rodent waste. Wanted to shower when I left. Run far away from this corner of Shaker Heights. Oh and FYI the owner is a rude unwelcoming man.

I have been here three time and have had three different drinks and have yet to be disappointed. The people that work there are friendly. Could they be slightly more efficient and speedy; yes. However, I would rather support a local business. Also, they are friendly — this really is a neighborhood coffee shop. I will continue to come here!

The servers are nice, and a little entertaining at times. Gives you a little bit of an atmosphere of being at home. I go here all the time if I need to make some phone calls or do some other business while I have a small meal or an iced tea. One of my favorite spots in Shaker Heights.

Quiet place, lots of windows with street views. My first time here, like the fact there’s parking right besides the coffee store.

Ridiculously friendly people. Coffee is great. Latte is strong without being bitter. Had fruit cheesecake and ebony and ivory cheesecake. Holy crap they were awesome. I think I found my new hangout when in Shaker.

Love this place! It’s a cozy spot to have a cup of coffee, sample a scone, or even a dessert. Staff is friendly and attentive. A perfect place to spot to spend a lazy weekend morning.

I have visited twice and have never been served. Disorganized, clueless and unbelievably unprofessional. Don’t waste your time.

Went here on Saturday morning. It wasn’t very busy, lots of tables were open. It took at least 10 – 15 minutes to get the latte they were promoting on all of their signage, Honey Almond. I had to go up to the counter to remind them I was waiting and it still took more than 5 minutes after despite it being so slow. One of the staff members came over to apologize and said he had something for me and would return but he never did, although I was there for another 45 mins. At least the latte was good.

Love the location and the vibes in Gimme Java. However, the barista skills in Gimme Java need some improvement(Milk Temperature & Latte Art). Once the kinks get straightened out this could be a hallmark of the neighborhood.

Came in to warm my freezing hands on a hot cup of coffee, and searching for a hearty breakfast sandwich. Bonus points for the cozy atmosphere and cute barista :) Coffee was decent, breakfast sandwich was good until I bit into raw onions. I love me some onions but they just did not go at all well with my egg sausage cheese melt. I’ll be back, but next time stick to the coffee only.

I 100% agree with the other reviewers. MUCH needed in our neighborhood. Great atmosphere. We have visited a handful of times for coffee & great experience with the young lady at the counter but had a bad experience last Friday. Woman at register was extremely flustered. We were only ones at counter. We are laid back people we know you can have a bad day but it carried over to our lunch. She couldn’t make change to save her life, it went on for a while and kept changing our coffees from small to mediums. We realized she charged us for 3 coffees instead of two when we kept saying only two when she repeatedly asked. Kept rubbing our coffee lids nervously where the mouth hole is with a bare hand with long acrylic nails and that was disturbing. We ordered veggie wraps. They were super super skinny tubes that were leaking veggie juice all over. Threw both of them on a bare tray, no plates then asked if we needed napkins??? $ 21.50 for a 4 bite sandwich half cup coffee and a tap water we shared. We always try to give our $ locally but will stick to coffee only. Again I get you’re paying for a specialty lunch, its a coffee shop but $ 8 wraps no meat wraps at least come a tad bit fuller on a paper plate.

I’m a big fan of Gimme Java Coffee! A place like this was sorely needed in the neighborhood. It is neighbor to Simply Delicious Pies, another favorite of mine. The interior is well decorated, cozy with a fire, and the service is the friendliest around. The owners will remember your name if they can and you can tell that they are trying their absolute best to give you the best experience. My only request is there be a written list, somewhere, anywhere!, of the loose-leaf tea selections. When I ordered a tea I had to smell all of the canisters to figure out which I wanted. Not an unpleasant experience but a list would be easier. From what I hear as a non-coffee drinker, the cups of joe are good. I’ve eaten lunch and breakfast there a couple of times and have really enjoyed the sandwiches, which are made to order and somewhat customizable. 5 stars for Gimme Java! I also love the name – my boyfriend goes there most days and we have a joke that he walks in and says«GIMMEJAVA!» while shaking his fist. I’m not with him for his coffee run most mornings but I like to believe this is true, and it makes me smile.

Great locally owned coffee joint. We have been waiting for them to open for some time and are very pleased with the place. They offer quick breakfast options such as breakfast-sandwiches, bagels, pastry, etc. They also offer lunch options of wraps, sandwiches, soups, salads as well. Free WiFi. Great décor inside. Extremely friendly staff. One of the best parts is that the building has about 3 parking spots, like a pit stop, that pull off directly from van Aken if you want to run in real quick and grab coffee on the way to work. In addition, there is a lot next to the building for normal parking. Very pleased and love going there as much as possible.

We have been waiting many months for Gimme Java to open… finally the day arrived. This AM I stopped by to try out a bold roast coffee and was pleasantly surprised to find that Armando’s Blend was very good. The staff was very friendly. It is so good to see a legitimate locally owned food establishment open in Shaker Heights, as all we seem to have are bad chain pizza joints. Oh not to mention the over abundance of hairdresser/nail joints. Seems to me that City Hall is not good at attracting decent places, unlike neighboring Cleveland Heights which has many good, affordable eateries.
