The clam strip basket was spot on! The staff was helpful and friendly. The place was clean and inviting. All over was a good find!

Went there for lunch yesterday for lunch. Had fried clams and lobster stew. The clams were soggy and over breaded and greasy. The lobster stew was at the other end of the building witch was an inconvence being handicap. The stew was premade and had to be nuked, taste was bland. Very disappointed. Went there when I was a kid, man has it changed

Me and the boy enjoy going to Ted’s for our seafood fix. I read some of the other reviews and I can understand where the people are coming from, but remember this isn’t the fish pier in Portland, this is well inland. And, they capitalize on the tourists, which is what you have to do when you run a business up here in Maine. All that being said, the place does have pretty good quality food, their clam strips are excellent, and their Haddock is really really good. The ice cream on Thursdays off-season is a nice price as well, and I like the order-and-get your food environment. You don’t have to wait for a waitress to come see you, and you don’t have to leave a tip on the table. If you want five-star seafood served to you by a teenager, drive an hour east till you hit the ocean. If you want pretty good seafood at an average price, stopping to Ted’s, you will be disappointed… Or you may be disappointed– but have two free hours you would have spent driving and an extra $ 10 in gas.

Small portions, high prices, and tasteless food. Fried oysters were mushy, fried haddock wasn’t very flaky. They do have good wings though! Take the trip to Petey’s in Rye, NH always awesome

Went to Ted’s today(August 3, 2015) and got the seafood platter and it was delish! The scallops were my favorite but the haddock, clams and shrimp were amazing too. I will definitely be back soon

Went to Ted’s because I had to have fried clams. We have been there several times before and have never had a bad experience. The batter is light, flavorful and doesn’t take away from the clams. They have all the usual seafood, available as dinners or in pints/quarts. If lobster is what you seek, the lobster roll is available as single or double, at market price. Soft buttered hotdog roll, lots of tail, knuckle and claw meat, mayo. We’ve had it several times and it’s very good. This time there was more mayo than I like but the true flavor was still there. The clams are pleasantly not greasy, all of their seafood and fried items are treated with respect. They also have steamed lobsters, steamers, shore dinners, and chowder available at a separate window in the dining room. If you are a landlubber, chicken tenders and side salads are among some of the offerings available. Save room after your meal to walk next door to the connected ice cream window… all the usual flavors as well as some surprises. Eat in, take out, or enjoy your meal or desert outdid on the picnic tables… some are in the sun. others are under an awning. A little bit of a drive from Portland but worth a nice ride through the country to have some good seafood in a casual atmosphere.

I’ve driven by this place for years and finally stopped last week. My daughter and I decided to share a haddock boat which was $ 11!!! Yikes! For that price I expected a decent sized portion, but unfortunately there were only four small chunks of haddock along with a hefty serving of fries. Turns out that was more than enough as we threw most of the rubbery, watery fish In the trash! The fries were no better… undercooked and bland. I will NOT be going back!

After spending a week in Maine eating, literally, one or more lobster rolls a day, Ted’s was the worst roll I ate. Was it «1 star» bad? No, not really… but it was mediocre enough to warrant a, «Meh, I’ve experienced better.» Ted’s lobster roll comes drenched in enough mayo to float a battle ship. Oh sure, there is an acceptable amount of lobster meat, but it wasn’t terribly flavorful, though it was hard to tell through the gallon or two of mayo in which the meat was swimming. But how about the fried clams? Since they’re in the name of the place they must be good, right? Nope. The whole bellies were flavorless, other than tasting of over-used oil. They were also overly battered, over-cooked, slightly tough, and honestly, just not very good. Lastly, if there were any clams in my bowl of clam chowder then it would have taken an employee to point them out to me. Basically, I got a bowl of slightly salty cream with a bite or two of chopped potato. This was hands down the worst place we ate in Maine. If you are forced to eat here, then choose the whole lobster dinner, which is very cheap. Yes, they may screw up boiling a whole lobster, but I’d trust them with that since anything more complicated seems to be a recipe for failure at Ted’s. On the plus side, servings are huge, so while it may not taste good, you do get a lot of it… hmmm…maybe that’s not a good thing.

The seafood is pretty good and you get very large portions. The fried fish, clams, shrimp are fried nicely and are tender. The lobster roll was great(I get mine without mayo). The staff is friendly and helpful. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because of the lobster stew. I ordered it and the guy pulled out a jug of creamer that was sitting out in room temperature. He added a little butter and the lobster and then proceeded to microwave it! A huge no no if you live in Maine! It was flavorless and the lobster was chewy. I was very disappointed.

This is a review for the Rockhouse ice cream shop attached to Ted’s. The Moose Tracks was pretty good. The outdoor sitting was plentiful and clean.

I’ve had many lobster rolls in my life, but this one is in a league of its own. Perfectly buttered roll, tender, flavorful lobster meat. No nonsense like celery or other additives. I can’t speak to the other foods, because whenever I come here I have to get the lobster roll. That alone warrants a five star review.

I frequently eat at a restaurant and love their food so much that I say I’ll give them a good Unilocal review, but then I forget or don’t care, etc. This is the first time I’ve actually done it because the lobster rolls are THAT good. Other people have to know! I’ve had lobster rolls with my fiancé up and down the coast of New England, but this one is perfection. We got the recommendation from a local, and I’m so glad we took her advice. It’s a lobster roll at its simplest(buttered roll, mayo, and lobster meat) done so well — fresh, tender, tasty. Might as well add that they have pretty good ice cream too, but that’s hardly a selling feature compared to the lobster roll.

I had a really good lunch here on a Friday afternoon. We took it to go and it didn’t take too long. It wasn’t too crowded. The girls were very friendly. This place has been here for years and everybody that lives or summers in the area recommends teds highly. Don’t skip teds because of the previous reviews, give it a try– we did. My clam strip basket was huge. The clams were cooked perfectly, and let me tell you I’m very picky about clams. Just the right amount of chew and very flavorful. It came with fries which were just the right amount of crisp. The cole slaw was o.k. needed some spice. Their tartar sauce was home made. My husband had a grilled ham and cheese basket and he said it was the best one he’d had anywhere. We had so many fries between our two baskets, they could have fed four people. We came back the next day for ice cream. They have a huge choice of flavors. Teds was spotless. I’m giving them five stars for their food, cleanliness, and staff. I don’t think the prices were high our two meals were $ 17. This is a good place to bring the kids or just sit outside in the sun for dinner. This isn’t cape cod or the hamptons, it’s Rural Maine and this place is right on par.

Just lousy fried clams, bad batter, no taste. This place is a phony in an area of gems. Don’t waste your time or $$.

Holy cow, Ted’s has really gone downhill the past couple years. This used to be the place to go for fried clams, but no longer. The quality of the food is just not good.

Appearance– Nice restaurant, the outside looks nice. The inside is very dated and tacky. It is also very dark. Service– The staff here is average. Food– It is horrible. The fried foods have no flavor what so ever. Fish, clams, shrimp, scallops are just so boring and tasteless. Fried chicken always tends to be tough, over cooked and bland. Baked dinners are the same way, boring. I don’t think they season any of they dishes they sell. The prices of their food is very expensive for what it is. You don’t get good balanced size portions. Example, if you order a fried dinner, 80% of your meal will be bland french fries, and the rest will be made up of a old stale roll, bland coleslaw, and your main dish item. Take Out– I have also ordered take out with them, again nothing changes. Exactly as if eating in. Overall, save your time and money. This place is not up to the standards that a authentic Maine seafood restaurant should be. Take the extra drive and go to the Maine beaches and get a true Maine feast.

I’ve had better clams. As in, these clams were a tad over fried and to me really lacked any kind of flavor overall. I will give them credit that it wasn’t greasy so I would say they use fresh oil and at the correct temp for frying. As well as their fries were crisp, and nicely salted. My fingers, nor the container holding my fried items were oily at all which I would say is pretty impressive since they were pretty busy. Not a long wait for food. Service was overall fine, some of the girls seemed a bit frazzled, but still friendly enough. I just didn’t care for their clams at all. I wanted to taste their ice cream, but sadly they do not allow me to swipe a credit card, only debit and it is a $ 5 min to swipe. Pretty disappointed, but this place I would say is mostly for tourists because. well the prices are pretty high. 11+ for a clam basket? No thanks.
