I went to the café for a birthday lunch on1/30/2016 from beginning to end it was OUTSTANDING!!! Tony(the owner) and Staff(lovely polite young ladies) served us in a timely fashion. They checked on us a number of times to see if refills were needed for our drinks. I have eaten there at least 9 times and have never had a bad meal or bad service. Tony is a wonderful host. The café gives healthy size portions and I have never left hungry. If your looking for huge buffet portions then go to a buffet. Sharon Springs maybe a small town but it’s packed with great people and great food. The Cuban Sandwich was the best I have ever had along with the croissant bread pudding to die for! I am a chef I have eaten in many places«The Black Cat» is at the top of my list! AAAAAAAAAA+++++++

Sharon Springs is a little off the grid but this is a great place to stop if you are driving through or vacationing. The owner Tony is super friendly and makes a point to chat with you. We were on a road trip when we came and needed quick service and he made sure it happened for us — I had the gobbler, turkey with green apples on homemade raisin bread — unique and really tasty!

We visited on Sun 7÷12÷15 — we stopped for a lite lunch — we were seated right away — we waited 20 minutes(we were going to leave at tge 25 minute mark) before a server came and asked us what we would like — we both ordered iced teas and the macc and blakk — the iced teas came about 10 minutes later and the young lady apologized for the delay– the table next to us served part if their order and the mac and cheese looked amazing(that us what we ordered) nice and browned the top — baked nice and hot so we were so looking forward to ours — we waited yet another 15 minutes and finally got ours– yikes ! No golden crusty cheesey top ! Mine was at best was luke warm ! My sister’s was alittle hotter– nothing of what was served to the next table– we were never offered refills on our teas as the other table — service was awful– food was okay — would never stop here again nor will recommend it either. We saw our server twice — when the drinks came and when the mac n cheese arrived and that is when I asked for the check ! Overall not a pleasant experience !

Went for brunch and nothing went well. After saying they had iced coffee, server brought plastic take out cups filled with watered down coffee and nearly no ice due to melting. Cream was in little packets at the table and no milk was offered. I ordered an omelet which was not cooked all the way and toast came with a packet of butter. But the waitress didn’t bring any silverware! Did she expect me to use the plastic fork that was on the table? The bites I did manage to get down were bland, oily and not good quality. Given the price tags I was expecting much better food quality, proper preparation and professional service.

We arrived and my mom commented on the wonderful smell of bacon. She was promptly rewarded with a slice while we reviewed the lunch menu. Our sandwiches were delicious, the atmosphere is charming, and the proprietor made us feel like we were old friends. I could not more highly recommend th is place when in Sharon Springs!

Super cute and very fresh food. They bake their own bread for sandwiches and the soup was also excellent. I highly recommend it!

Gotta say, I’m not a fan, which definitely puts me in the minority here on Unilocal.Maybe everyone else is right and I was having an off day, but here’s how it went down for me: Saturday is my «cheat day» for carbs, so I ordered mac & cheese(tiny and bland) and a slice of chocolate cake(enormous and slightly less bland). My friend had the curried chicken salad sandwich and a small piece of cheesecake, which were both pronounced excellent. We each had a soda. With tax + tip, it came out to $ 40. Middle of nowhere, eating diner food with a plastic fork and drinking Pepsi straight from the can? That doesn’t feel like a $ 40 lunch to me. On the plus side, the owner was super friendly, the menu was clever, and the place had a fun vibe. But high price, meh food and hapless service are enough to drag the overall rating into negative territory. Might give Black Cat another shot eventually … but not until I’d tried every other place in town.

We came here on a recent trip because our hosts suggested it. Sure, it was a pretty busy day however, we waited 15 minutes for drinks and over an hour for our food. Portion sizes are incredibly small and the food is just ok. For what we received, the cost was far too high. Would not go back!

Never disappointed here. Tony, the owner, is so nice and always able to make a spot on recommendation. His twist on the classic blt is joy to the taste buds, the soups are fantastic and the desserts and pastries right out of the oven will make you crave one even before you order your entrée. Can’t go wrong with Black Cat when you’re in the area.

Tony prepared awesome lunches for the two of us. First were marinaded butter beans and carrot ginger soup… Both excellent. Our entrees were the Gobbler turkey sandwich and the gorgo Gorgonzola salad, which were like Thanksgiving précis and all the good things one wants in an entrée salad, including the remarkable balsamic fig drizzle dressing. Dessert was a lumberjack size piece of the house carrot cake, and a white chocolate chip/cranberry cookie. Both desserts exceeded expectations. We should have walked back to Albany! We’ll be back…

I came to Black Cat for breakfast today and enjoyed my experience. I got Connie’s Egg scramble with tomatoes and cheese with toast for $ 7 with a side of bacon for $ 3. Coffee was $ 2.50. The service was prompt and very helpful. I just think the cost was too high for what I received.

Left with very mixed feelings… mark and I went for the priciest breakfast dish: egg white omelet with goat cheese and tarragon: they left out the tarragon… how does that happen when there are only three ingredients in the entire preparation? My main issue was once the food was delivered, no one did the customary check back to make sure all was well… never got a chance to bring the missing ingredient to anyone’s attention until the end of the meal… sure we could have gotten up to locate someone, but should we have to? The staff did take off the cost off a doughnut for our troubles… hmmm. This dish, for what it was, was WAY overpriced: $ 9.95 for a 2(possibly 3) egg white omelet with a dash of goat cheese, most likely a sprinkling of tarragon(when used it should be done so sparingly anyway) and one piece of buttered toast… seriously? Not even a fruit garnish??? Mango smoothie that my son ordered at first glance looked to be a pleasant surprise… until I determined that it was most likely made up of ice and mango syrup… I’m pretty sure there wasn’t anything natural about it, especially as it separated… They did put out some nice looking pastries(of which we sampled the doughnut mentioned earlier: good but still a doughnut…). Final blow, however, were the multiple hanging fly traps that were in the first line of sight into the kitchen… each adorned with multiple, quite sizable catches… ugh…pretty sure fly traps shouldn’t be in a kitchen. The place could be super cute, but it needs a good scrubbing, fewer hanging fly traps(at least put them put of customer sight) and some quality assurance oversight.

This is a cute little spot for breakfast and I wish that we lived closer to enjoy the large-format cooking classes that they offer upstairs. The breakfast menu has something for everyone. When we arrived their were good looking donuts and pastries out on a table cooling. We promptly ordered a donut each which was worth the calories. My meal was the cornflake encrusted french toast which was just okay. it was slightly charred which gave it an odd taste. Our other meal was the bagelwich which was standard fare. All in all — this seems to be the only game in town and they do a good job.

Excellent little place for lunch. Not very big on the inside, maybe 8 tables inside with assorted options for outdoor patio seating as well. Tables and chairs are all mismatched, very intimate and homey feeling. had the Cobble Gobble turkey sandwich and it was excellent. Fresh sliced turkey on homemade raisin bread with green apple slices, Mayo and lettuce… was delicious.

Tony has never disappointed me when I stop in. I had a BLT with avocado and tea on New Years Eve. Good food and if you get a chance try his potato salad.

9÷29÷12 — I’ve been to the Black Cat 4 – 5 times in the past 2 years. It’s so hard to choose. Everything is very good — excellent. I had the Rubin today and on a previous visit. I also love the Wild Julia. Had it twice excellent! Wild Julia — grilled extra sharp NY cheese, bacon, tomato, pepita seeds, Frank’s Red Hot, on white, 8.95 Home-made Corned Beef /Reuben on rye with Swiss cheese & sauerkraut, 10.95 Also very good choices. Lebanese Potato Salad, potatoes, parsley, dressed with olive oil, garlic, salt & lemon, 4.50 Hummus, made fresh here daily, Lebanese-style with olive oil & paprika, & pita triangles, 4.50 Next time –Thanksgiving Everyday, house roasted warm turkey breast, mayo, stuffing, cranberry sauce on toasted white, 9.95 I hope I can resist my other 2 favorites! The service is good to excellent. Sometime it gets really busy but the servers are always friendly and helpful. Unfortunately it’s a 2 hour drive but there other shops in the area.

Next time I would go to the American across the street. Me and 3 friends were up here for some adventures in upstate NY, and this was apparently the only game in town. We popped in for breakfast, options were pretty limited. We ended up getting the James Beard french toast, an omelette, some oatmeal, and granola. I got the omelette, which was pretty rubbery and nothing special, not including of any sides(sans toast), service was a bit slow, as it all took awhile to come out to us and took a fair bit longer for us to get our check(in spite of there not being many others there). The french toast was actually pretty amazing, and I would recommend it, but all in all nothing else was too impressive. Would definitely try the American, across the street, for brunch next time I was there. The menu seemed a little more exciting and brunch-oriented.

I stopped by here twice for breakfast while in the area. I had an omelet the first time, and a cream cheese and lox on bagel the second trip. Both were good, although I would prefer a little bit less cream cheese next time. I had fresh squeezed orange juice that was excellent. I also took some fresh-baked croissants(both almond and chocolate) and a donut to a cousin that I had coffee with, and she said those were good as well. This place will be a regular stop when I visit the area.
