Big Lots

I had a horrible experience with a furniture purchase I had made at the Big Lots store in Anaheim, CA. It was a warranty issue that the furniture manager in that store refused to help me with (see my review on that store). After moving to KC and having further issues with the structural integrity of my sectional, I finally got in touch with Big Lots corporate and they forwarded me to Brad at the Shawnee store since it was my nearest location. He was awesome to work with. He was apologetic (even though the issue hadn’t originated from his store) and really went out of his way to take care of me. I’m really happy with my new sectional and have nothing but good to say of Brad and his team!

I really love Big Lots! I find some great buys here. Everything from small electronics (Card readers and such) to headphones to a cover for my kindle. I love their deals on curtains, sheet sets, and comforters. Another thing I like are buying toiletries here. Ladies razors, shaving cream and toothbrushes.
Around Christmas time, I love coming here for the great deals on small trees, ornaments and lights! Some of the lights I have bought have lasted me for YEARS!

I live so close to here, but never come. Part of it is because if I see bargains, I buy them, so it’s a willpower thing. The other day, I needed a few things and decided to try there instead of WalMart nearby.
They had a ton of stuff on sale. I bought 10 pairs of shoes for 25¢ each (CENTS). No, I didn’t need 10 new pairs of shoes, but c’mon.
I was able to get a lot of grocery items on really good clearance. They didn’t have a great selection, but good enough to get me through the weekend. They had a lot of stuff marked down to 25¢.
I ended up spending $ 50 when I went in to buy about $ 3 worth of stuff. WHICH IS WHY I DON’T COME HERE!!!
The guy that checked my stuff out was quiet but really nice. I had signed up for a Big Lots card a long time ago, but didn’t have it. He really wanted me to get credit for the big purchase I made that day so volunteered to take the time to fix my old account so I’d get those «points» even when I told him he didn’t really have to go to the effort if he was too busy. He wasn’t that busy, so was perfecty happy to do it.
I’ll definitely go back, although I’ll have to be careful not to buy too much.

These four stars are almost given apathetically. I can’t really trash talk this place, because they did have some solid prices. But I’m really bitter about my experience.
My debit card was canceled for fraud mere days after coming to the city. So, we needed some household stuff and I thought «hey, those awesome people of Unilocal mentioned Big Lots and this one’s close! I can write a check!» Now, I go into these situations feeling incredibly awkward, like a dinosaur with my checkbook out and my obvious insecurity in filling in all those lines. No one uses checks, I hate when people do, it really irritates me and slows down everyone else.
The CHECKER was nice about it, because I was making awkward comments like «I really hate when people use checks, so I’m sorry to be that person for your day.» She took it well, she giggled, whatever. EVERYONE AROUND ME ACTED LIKE PRETENTIOUS SNOBS, THOUGH! You’re in a BIG LOTS! This isn’t Saks, okay? I make a freaking joke about my dinosaur check books, you could at least pretend to just not hear it. But no, everyone in line behind me gave me this look like «you are poorer than us with your checkbook, and we are here buying TENNIS rackets because we’re OPers.» I just wanted to throw my middle finger in the air and run out.
Granted, I was really insecure about these checks. I know it’s dumb, okay? Don’t judge me. But the point is… NO ONE SHOULD FEEL JUDGED FOR ANY REASON IN A BIG LOTS! Boyfriend really wants to go, but if we do, it will be a different location because I’m really sore about this one. Really sore.
