I’ve worked with Coleman American for over 10 years now on various projects. The salesmen Travis and Bob are so professional and courteous. I feel they are some of the best in the business. Moving is a tough job and things can get damaged sometimes but the crews I’ve dealt with put all the protection down that was needed and were very careful moving the furniture while still going at a good pace. From what I’ve seen over the years this company has only gotten better!

Where to even begin??? This was the absolute worst move in my 18 years in the military. First the crew had a new worker who had no experience. They decided to let him move an entire dresser down the stairs by himself. So being the inexperienced worker he was he decided to push it down the stairs and hold on to it from the back. It went crashing down the stairs and through our wall!!! We had several young children in the house at the time and they could have been seriously hurt. The movers broke a few other things on the way out and trashed our house. When we received our household goods, we had several THOUSANDS of dollars worth of damage! We have placed this company on our non-​preferred mover list because they are so bad. Do not do business with this company!

My husband confirmed our move with Bob B of Coleman American — Agent for Allied Van Lines on 5÷16÷13; a packing date of ⁶⁄₁₇ & a load date of 6÷18÷13. The move Guaranteed not-​to-​exceed $ 9,907.00 & our belongings scheduled for delivery 6÷24−6÷26÷13. On Thursday ⁵⁄₃₀ I went into the local office to meet our Move Coordinator, Kelly A, I got an updated not-​to-​exceed cost of $ 9,747.70; I further confirmed moving our delivery out one day to 6÷25−6÷27÷2013. Our move Registration No. is XXXXXX, from Kansas City, MO to Signal Hill, CA.
The day of packing, 6/​17, they arrived late, and I was in contact throughout the day with our Coordinator, as the 3 man crew were awful. I was asked to use my iPhone charger, the kitchen packer took 5 hrs to pack one room & most disturbing is a crew member defecated in my bathroom repeatedly, leaving my home smelling for hours & my toilet backed up… which they made no attempt to fix. The tape on the boxes was so bad I kept re-​sticking the tape, so I have no confidence in the packing done. The different 6 man crew that came to load on ⁶⁄₁₈ was better, but did damage a wall.
BIG ISSUE; our signed Guaranteed & Binding Price Pledge with Allied states a date of delivery between 6÷25−6÷27÷13. I called on Monday ⁶⁄₂₄ to see when our items would be arriving, only to be told that our items were still in KC with no confirmed truck pick up date! That is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Understand; I just had my 3^rd back surgery in March, we own 2 large (50+lb dogs), my Mother-​in-​Law is staying with us — further my husband already started his new job, we only brought clothing for a few days as we expected (per contract) to obtain our stuff no later than ⁶⁄₂₇.
We are trying to make our lives livable; I tried to sleep on an air mattress, but again I just had back surgery… I awoke in extreme pain, so we were forced to buy a new mattress. I got patio furniture with cushions to use as indoor seating for the time being, as that was a cheaper than buying upholstered chairs/​sofa. I had to buy linens, toiletries, meals out, dog food & bowls etc; these costs have become a burden upon us and are unacceptable.
I contacted Allied’s customer service on June 27^th, the last day they had to deliver our belongings per signed contract. I now reference Allied’s ‘Your Rights & Responsibilities When You Move’ subpart F, pages 35 and 36, «Yes, your mover must transport your household goods in a timely manner…» and «If your mover fails to pick up and deliver your shipment on the date entered on the Bill of Lading and you have expenses you otherwise would not have had you may be able to recover those expenses from your mover. This is what is called an inconvenience or delay claim». With that in mind I spoke to Chelsie D a Rep who answered my call to Allied. She said that typically I would get up to $ 500 if I elected to stay in my home, but she was giving me up to $ 700 due to my physical medical needs, OR up to $ 100 for a hotel per night and 50% of my meal costs… SERIOUSLY? Try getting a hotel in a CA beach city near July 4^th for 3 adults & two large dogs any where near $ 100! I can not begin to understand the spreadsheet she sent showing what Allied would reimburse me; $ 30 for bedding — from where a Thrift store? This is beyond unacceptable & insulting; as a company when you contract with a customer to provide a service, the dates are not optional or a «guideline», especially moving!
I do not expect for Allied to pay for my new bed, but I do expect a LOT more than a slap in the face, especially as I sat without my belongings!
I was then told it might be ⁷⁄₅; honestly it doesn’t matter, the damage is done and I will not pay $ 9,400 for a move that is not complete, nor do I feel it is at all reasonable to expect me to pay full price for something that is not being delivered as contracted. I further find the laughable «pacification» amount offered for my inconvenience an insult & an act of Allied’s bad faith practices.
After writing all of the above to the BBB, I go NO WHERE, and before they would deliver my belongings LATE they DID charge me the FULL Amount of the move… Worst Yet MANY of our belongings are BROKEN or damaged (they broke my desk — literally in pieces, my toilet cabinet, my dresser, many of my collectibles and art/​décor, kitchen ware and worst my husband’s antique family rocking chair!) and still I got NOTHING in compensation for any of this HORRID service.

This was the worst moving experience that I have had in almost two decades of military moves. I’m literally shocked at the positive reviews on the Company’s site to the point I think it’s all a sham. Perhaps the fact that I’m military and the company has a guaranteed contract with them is why they didn’t give a crap about any aspect of my family’s move. First, I was lied to about the delivery time by the initial representative then told that I would essentially be rolling the dice with the date of delivery unless I took delivery between the dates that Coleman wanted; ultimately I received my household goods 3 days after we wanted them costing me $ 800 in hotel costs and a serious burden on my family. Second, the pack-​out/​pick-​up was ridiculous. The movers packed without rhyme or reason, ignored the labeling I asked for which will cost me due to the fact that my professional gear was counted iptowards my over-​all weight allowance which the military charges us for when we exceed it. In addition, the packers were so slow that they ran an entire day over schedule and had to call in other movers to help. My neighborhood had Coleman trucks coming and going and dropping items from other moves into the streets. It was like a cartoon. They ultimately finished at midnight of the day they were supposed to simply pick up our things. At the origin, I specifically identified a laptop that was supposed to be packed in which one of the workers stole and failed to include it on the inventory sheets (a nice little «slip» that initially I didn’t notice); luckily I listed it on my high-​value sheet in which the site supervisor signed, however, this was an arguement and after I caught the mistake when going through the inventory sheets at midnight prior to them leaving. The manager for my move was completely inept and seemed to simply go through the motions as if I was a burden to her. Upon delivery in Virgina Beach we noticed right away that almost no piece of furniture went un-​damaged, some of our things were completely destroyed, and at a minimum our laptop was certainly stolen (with personal information on it, which I’m sure I’ll be attempting to fight for my own identity soon). I’m sure we will find other items missing as time goes on. What is sad is that we bought lunch very single day these Colman representatives were in our home only to be taken advantage of and the way I look at it, spit on. I’m sure we will be in some kind of legal battle with this company soon trying to be compensated for our losses but I’m equally sure that the time I took to write this review will do nothing to help others avoid the treatment we received. A least there is a moving company I know to avoid in the future.

Do NOT use this company! It is a waste of your time and money. We used them to move from Jacksonville, FL to Olathe, KS. Things seemed to be going fine until it came time for our stuff to be unloaded at the new house.
We were told by the driver that when he picked our stuff up from the warehouse in Jacksonville, that it was all sitting in a giant water puddle. This was evident by the water damaged boxes, bed frames, and desk. We were upset, but have purchased full coverage, so we just thought it was be an added hassle to a move.
Once the claims person came out, they gave us $ 25 – 30 for each damaged object… all pieces that cost $ 250 and up. They said since they were not damaged beyond repair, that was all they could do for us.
Then they said they would repair or reimburse us the full cost of our wine cooler that worked when it was packed up by them, but was broken when it arrived in Kansas.
Today I received a letter in the mail stating that since there was no visual damage to the wine cooler, they are not responsible for it and will be giving us nothing.
I find this all completely ridiculous. We have barely had that wine cooler for 5 months and now it’s a giant paper weight.
I plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and encourage everyone I meet to use someone else. I also suggest not using Allied in general since they are the parent company.
