Despite all the wonderful reviews I see written here, my friends and family(a party of 7) just didn’t like any of the food we received.

The best place in Shawnee, OK for authentic mexican food! Other places try but this place is very good.

Place is small, but the food is great they have some things you have to go to okc or Texas to get such as tougue tacos. I love to get the molcajete(chicken is great), carne asada is a little thin cut and rough. But its enough for two people. Would love to see this place grow.

Hidden gem in Shawnee! We spent this night in Shawnee during our cross-country trip and stumbled upon this place after looking at both Unilocal and TripAdvisor. It’s easy to drive past as the building is very small, but the food and level of service were both amazing. They also have a drive thru too which seemed to have a steady flow of traffic while we ate. When we arrived we were 1 of 2 tables eating, but as we were leaving there was only 1 table available. I tried the carne asada plate and my husband got 3 different types of tacos. Total came to less than $ 20 with drinks as well. If we pass by here again we will be back!

If these folks used better quality meats this place would be my favourite Mexican restaurant in Oklahoma. The food is delicious! But it could be so much better with higher quality ingredients.

If you want everything swimming in sauce and cheese this is not the place for you. Authentic Mexican food. We have tried almost everything on the menu and haven’t had anything we wouldn’t order again. I always get some tamales to go with my meal because they are my favorite.

Had the Hawaiian Fajitas, the chicken was dry and steak tough, very little rice and beans with order, and only got a small salsa, for sause. I have eaten here several times always good, must of caught them on a bad night. GARY

Wonderful food! We shared a dinner for 2. It included carne asada, pork chops, chicken and shrimp. The white cheese sauce cost extra but well worth the money. Very authentic Mexican food offered on the menu.

Authentic Mexican food. It was great from the warm salsa to the street tacos. I highly recommend. Don’t judge a book by its cover, the food is great.

We ate here yesterday as part of our budget escape. It was a great experience. The staff was friendly, attentive and hard working, the food was very good and very reasonably priced for good portions. The cook came out and jumped my truck when it wouldn’t start. Ambiance is quite nice and authentic. Obviously a favorite with locals. I highly recommend that you check it out.

OK so I am a huge taco fan. I was in town for a concert from Texas where I can find taco joints everywhere. Found this on Unilocal and thought I would give it a try. Had the carne asada and al pastor tacos and these are the real deal. Double corn tortillas, cilantro and lime. Red and green sauce was terrific. If you are looking for authentic tacos this is the only place around to go.

This place is as good as I am at hunting wolverines with a bow staff! Damn good! Fast and good food without the fear of stomach pains as is the case with some other place I won’t mention(abuelitas)

The food here is delicious. I was surprised because the other 35 Mexican style restaurants in Shawnee taste like if I took one more bite I’d have to get colostomy bag. Every time I eat here however, It’s like Cinco de Mayo in my mouth. Highly recommended!

Great place to get a bite to eat. Let me rephrase that. Great place to get a whole lot to eat. I had the Cerviche. It is a fish and crab dish on top of a large crunch enchilada shell(actually 4 of them). I really liked it and I was more than full after I ate ½ of it. My mexican friend who ordered it in the past recommended it and I wasn’t disappointed. BTW free chips and salsa. the salsa is homemade, not«homemade»(WINKWINKNUDGENUDGE) like other restaurants, but truly homemade. They have different flavors and all are complimentary with the meal. Truly a great small little hole in the wall restaurant. Most of the dummies in Shawnee end up going to Abuelo’s or the other one that starts with an S, but trust me, if you want authentic Mexican go to Don Ciro’s!

Don Ciro’s is a fantastic addition to Shawnee. Rather than serving Tex-Mex(which I love), Don Ciro’s is a legit taqueria. The tacos are served on small, soft tortillas with a minimal topping of onions and cilantro. The al pastor is delicious, featuring flavorful hunks of marinated pork. The carne asada is made with quality steak that they cook through without drying out. The lengua has that rich flavor and unique texture that only comes with tongue. The gorditas are tasty as well, and have almost nothing in common with the Taco Bell product of the same name. They are more similar to arepas, fried thick tortillas stuffed with a variety of fillings. The rajas is a spicy pepper filling with a beautiful depth of flavor. Chicharon verde is a stew-like filling made from pork skins and tomatillos. The skin isn’t crunchy, so the texture may be off-putting to some, but I didn’t mind and I really enjoyed the unusual, earthy flavor. Picadillo is almost like a Mexican ground beef hash. It was the closest to a traditional Tex-Mex taco filling and probably my least favorite of the three, though still good. On another visit I tried the chilaquiles and the guacamole dip. The guac was zesty and fresh. The chilaquiles were new to me, but I really enjoyed the way the tortillas strips soaked up the flavor from the sauce and most things go better with a few well-prepared eggs. The location is small, but clean and the service is friendly and quick. I look forward to many return visits.

Some months ago I penned a review of another local restaurant which is a great family favorite. In that review I stated that what would really be outstanding would be a restaurant that prepared authentic Mexican fare and not Tex-Mex that most in this part of the country think of as Mexican. Don Ciros fills this void wonderfully. Moving from a Taco Truck to a full service restaurant has been a great thing. The food is outstanding and the service superb. I did not see it on the menu, but saw a beautifully prepared whole fish being presented to a table on our last visit. The Choriso is flavorful and not at all greasy. The Chicken and Pork get equally high marks. Tongue and Tripe are also on the menu and delicious(for gringos the listing is disguised by using Spanish). There are several Salsas, all of which are wonderful and your meal may be accompanied by a plate of simmered onions and peppers with generous avacado slices. The only problem with Don Ciros is the size. You may have to wait for a table… but that wait will be well worth it.
