You guys… I have found heaven. I’ve somehow only recently developed an interest in plants and being totally clueless, a friend suggested I check out Family Tree Nursery. I was absolutely not prepared for the awesomeness that I found! I was on the hunt for herbs and Family tree had a wide selection of everything I was looking for. The staff is absolutely amazing and helped me with my millions of questions — even drilling a hole in the bottom of a terra cotta planter I found for my lavender. I brought home 6 herbs, a lavender plant, 8 terra cotta pots, a large planter, some elephant garlic for planting, potting soil, weed killer and a whole bunch of knowledge for around $ 100. I’ve found a place with everything I want and amazing prices — even though it’s quite a drive, I don’t ever want to go anywhere else!

Sandy in the greenhouse helped me great a lovely, custom terrarium filled with succulents for my wife’s birthday. She loved it and I appreciated the great service.

Nice nursery, a little pricey for some items, but for plants they have a good selection at pretty good prices. Their décor is a little on the pricier side for me, so I stick to plants. The employees are pleasant and efficient and very helpful! If you can’t find it they will! They have some awesome items at Christmas time! Neatly decorated trees and if you collect certain collections they have those too!

I want to give this place five stars but it can be really hit or miss with the younger, less pleasant employees working the cash register ruining the experience. I find employees in the greenhouse to be quite helpful though. They are eager to answer questions or help you find the items you need. If you are a person that doesn’t like to be asked if you need any help, this might not be the place for you because they check up on you often — which is why I wish that most of the cashiers didn’t seem to hate their job so much because everyone else is spot on. I have been a cashier and know that it is the last impression a person has when leaving a business usually. On this most recent trip(though this has happened before), the cashier was arguing the price with me on several plants, I told her the price and she disagreed. When another employee went to check on it for us(which I already had said I didn’t want to bother with), she came back with the price I had honestly told her it was but she wasn’t happy about being wrong… I wasn’t happy about being charged 40% higher than expecting either but I tried my best to keep smiling. The variety and quality of the plants here tends to quite well maintained for the most part. There can be some pretty great deals on pre-assembled arrangements or aging plants. The variety of pots and goods is great. The downsides are the huge markups on terrariums and non-plant goods. I would recommend this place still and just keep in mind that some items are a bit over priced and to not let others affect your experience too much.

I came in here looking for a garden/yard gnome. I was pretty disappointed in the selection of yard ornaments, and things were not organized according to category, so I had to walk around the inside shop checking out displays and looking for hidden décor. Staff was super friendly, and at least three different people asked me if they could help me. No gnomes here, but then I wandered around outside. I wish I could keep plants alive because if I could, I would drop a lot of money at Family Tree Nursery! The atmosphere is spacious and pleasant, and it was relaxing to walk around and look at the different kinds of green items they have for sale. I wish I could be more descriptive of what those green items are, but I do not have a green thumb. It is worth a visit, though. Go!

I shop here a lot. They are pricey but their stock is of high quality and worth it. They are also very friendly and helpful. Some of the folks are very knowlegeable and if someone doesn’t know something they will go find someone(generally) who does. My favorite location is Nieman but I also shop at the other one I think on Foster?

This is by far my favorite nursery location because of the prompt and knowledgable staff who can help you in almost any situation. I entered looking for an indoor succulent and found right away a large selection. I love this nursery and will come here for all my gardening needs!

Wonderful place with great plant selection. The staff is very knowledgeable in regards to lawn, gardening, etc… They also have quite an outdoor décor/gift selection these days. Just be careful… you will leave with sooo much more than planned! Loooove this place!

Family Tree Nursery is awesome! Every time I go in it makes me want to become a landscaper for a brief moment, then I plop down to reality and remind myself I do not and never had a green thumb. The constant help and advice is amazing. I don’t think I have ever met a nicer staff.

This place rocks. The reasons to love it– Overflowing inventory. Don’t see it, just ask. Knowledgeable and helpful employee’s that go above and beyond. Cute little areas to walk through. Not just plants, but pots and accessories. Reasonable prices. Quality product. I come here every spring for the bulk of my plantings. Go, go, go!

I feel like I shouldn’t be writing this review. So I will continue. I came in looking for potting soil and bird seed. That’s all. The staff member who attempted to help me seemed very distracted and bothered that I asked her a question. I was annoyed, it’s a simple question/answer situation. I just need to feed the damn birds and plant my greens. They don’t have the greatest selection of small indoor potting soil and it’s highly priced at almost 10 a tiny bag. I didn’t buy any. They also had a great selection of birdseed which was also pricey, but seemed high quality. They had all kinds of seed for attracting any number of birds. I saw that they had a huge selection of plants of course. And they also carry Beanpod Candles! I will have to update my review when I go back again. But the key here is that I will go back.

The first warm day of the year always gets me itching to start planting. I try to follow that impulse, but that sometimes leaves me with dead plants on my hands, seeing as a spring freeze isn’t uncommon. This will be the first year that I have a garden that isn’t in Brooklyn, New York. I know, how crazy is it that I haven’t yet had a garden while living in this most fertile region. Gardening is one of my passions. Don’t get me wrong. I’m no expert. I had a wisteria vine that despite all my efforts only flowered once in the 7 or so years that I had it. But I enjoy the benefits of the planted seeds(er, I don’t actually plant much from seeds, but you get the point). Nothing better than a dish made with tomatoes from a garden. I can’t think of anything more pleasurable than sitting outside on a summer night breathing in the heady fragrance of jasmine and moon flowers. Yet the past two summers had me with only so much as a couple pots of flowers on the porch. The reason for this is we’ve moved right in the midst of summer two years in a row. But, this year is different! We moved in March and now there’s a small garden out back that is just dying for some plants. Come hell or high water, I’m going to plant a garden that will rival my vine and flower-filled yard back in Brooklyn. I got a good start last week at Family Tree Nursery. It was 80 degrees on the first Saturday of April, so there I was, typically optimistic, filling the cart with herbs(basil, two varieties of thyme and sage), annuals(geraniums, petunias) and one grape vine that a most informative employee helped me to pick out. On that note, I was pretty happy to see the wide range of grape varieties at this nursery. At my favorite nursery on Long Island, they barely had one variety to offer and if you got there too late after it sold out, you were SOL. I ended up putting back all the annuals I had impulsively loaded my basket with after speaking to yet another helpful employee who suggested it might be too early to plant these in the ground(after I asked her). Fearing a kitchen full of plants waiting out the frost threat, I figured I can return next month to get these. After all, there’s plenty of time and Family Tree has a lot to offer. And they will soon be getting in my favorites: clematis, jasmine and passion flowers. I will also get my tomato plants here when I return. Here’s to a happy gardening season!

It smelled like spring today. It always makes me want to nurture a little plant to bloom or harvest an abundance of veggies. Family Tree staff is just like they say, family. Everyone is so friendly and warm, eager to help find the perfect plant for that creepy shady spot on the side of the house and the best plants for your soil or containers. This place is huge! Every year it seems to grow(pun unintentional)! The varieties of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and every other vegetable God put on this green earth is available here. I have a tendency to love too much so I end up here regularly to replace the flowers and lilac bushes I convince myself I can grow. The death of my plants is not the fault of this nursery, they give all the advice they can on how to care for my new little treasures. I very nearly forgot the best part. Dogs welcome. Some lucky person(can’t remember their title) gets to bring their dog to work and he is an absolute darling. Arlo cannot wait to see him again this spring.
