I never had the chance to eat there…1 star for sheer creepiness. My lovely friend Steph, myself and her family went wedding dress shopping down the street from Waxy’s about 2 weeks ago. Steph wanted to stop by Waxy’s for a late lunch. No biggie. When we pulled up I noticed there wasn’t a lot of action going down outside but thought nothing of it. We went to the doors, opened them with no problem and walked in. It was abandoned. There were still ketchup bottles on the table and no workers etc to be found. I was waiting for a deranged bitter ex-waiter to jump out of the shadows and we ran from the building screaming. We did however go to the DQ next door and asked them what was up with Waxy’s. The kid said they had been closed for months…

My family and I have been here 2 times in 2 weeks, which is about equal to the total number of times we have previously been here. Basically, it’s an Irish Pub motif(duh) restaurant. I don’t know Irish food from Adam, but the menu certainly reads like they have some authentic items, so I’ll take their word for it. Each visit here has been somewhat unique. The last 2 times I’ve ordered different things: the first was some kind of Irish version of beef with gravy over potatoes. The second time I ordered the traditional fish & chips. The food was great both times. The service has been kind of up and down. The first visit was good; the second visit a week later was somewhat lacking and slow. I must say even though they seem to have some things for kids, the hired help doesn’t seem to be used to have little patrons and seem awkward in their attempts to make you feel welcome. I know, it’s a «pub», but it’s also a restaurant, and if you don’t want to cater to kids, say so. They have a stage area for live music and I have heard some. Waxy’s does a good job of bringing in some good local talent, Irish and otherwise. I think in general Waxy O’Shea’s is worth a try for anyone wanting to experience an Irish-themed restaurant. The food has been good every time I’ve been there, so whether you like traditional Irish fare or just a plain hamburger, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I can’t speak to their array of beers, as I rarely indulge, but from what I’ve seen, they have a nice assortment to choose from. Give them a shot and see what you think.

Had an early dinner. The atmosphere was great and the service was great. The waiter took fantastic care of us. The food was priced very reasonable but was not the best fish and chips I had. I have been to a good number of Irish pubs and this was in the top 50%…maybe it was just an off day.

I’ve never had the food at Waxy’s, only drinks, so I can’t speak to their menu. What I can speak to is the service, which has been surly at best 2 of the 3 times I’ve been here. Only one of our 3 visits ever made me feel like I was welcome, which is pretty bad. On our most recent visit, we were meeting a group and bought our first round before we joined everyone, so that pretty much meant that the server ignored us the rest of the time. She would literally ask everyone around us if they wanted another drink, and walk off when we tried to order. We didn’t have a tab going, and had cash out to pay, so I’m not sure what her deal was.(Because if we DID have a tab at the bar, we would’ve gone up to the bar to order. No biggie.) The lack of service was noticeable to the point that another person with the group commented on the fact that we were clearly being ignored. Drink prices are pretty much on a par with other bars around the KC area, and they have a good whiskey selection, which is a star in Waxy’s favor. The time that we were in and served by the friendly server is worth a second star. I wish I could remember her name, as she was great — friendly, upbeat, and always checking in to see if we needed refills at the right time. The atmosphere is more restaurant than pub to me, so I personally suggest sitting in the bar area if you want more of a pub feel. We’ll probably be back, as we have a friend who lives in the area, but this is definitely not one of my favorite places to have a drink. Meh pretty much sums it up.

Their meatloaf is amazing. The beer cheese soup is also nice. Get a cup and its just enough so you can still have a full meal. Nice beer and whiskey selection. The staff is always cheerful and friendly.

You know, in all fairness. just not big on this type of menu. So to me the food is ok. I have some friends that love it, but its not my first choice for food. However, if I want a good atmosphere and great service– you get it here. Staff is great, and selection of beer is a decent. And they do run a good happy hour special!

Not A-OK … just OK Came here for lunch. the atmosphere was pretty cool, and the waitress’ fit the«irish» part. I was freezing in there, which i didnt like. There wasnt much on the menu that looked appetizing, but then again im Mexican soooo that might have something to do with it ;) I ordered the beer cheese soup and the corned beef sandwhich, which was only a half since it was a lunch item. the beer cheese soup tasted like beer vomit, i hated it, but my hubby liked it, so we traded, he ordered the beef stew which was pretty good. nothing fancy with the sandwich just an ok sandwich. the total for us for lunch was $ 15.00 aprox. Dont know if I would ever go back though
