Where to begin. If you are going out for a upscale dinning experience, this is not the place for you. First impression is the smoke smell from cigarettes wafting in from the bar. The dated appearance of the inside of facility to the wrinkled table clothes should have made us turn around. When greeted by server, we were informed she would be back because she was being«buzzed» to pick up food from kitchen. Being a server by trade, I understand the importance of getting food out hot. However, at a level that this restaurant boasts to be, they should have runners. We went ahead and ordered, although I myself still had doubts and opted for French onion soup and salad. My spouse ordered filet and shrimp. Lettuce was browned and soup was watered down. Shrimp was quality of Capt Gortons frozen from Wal-Mart, under cooked. Steak was fair but over cooked. Wonder bread drenched in butter and browned on flat top grill was served with the meal. I don’t believe myself to be a food snob but come on. 70.00 bucks later we left feeling we certainly did not get a fair meal for the price. Five star is no where in the ball park for this restaurant

Best Steak in the Shoals. Service was also spectacular. Will be my go to for important dinners out whether personal or business. Great atmosphere.

I am pretty sure this place is meant for locals, because the way they place there sign, there is no way for an out of towner to find this place unless they have the address and a GPS. I walked in just after 5, and no staff were around. I wasn’t even sure they where open. I wandered around, called into the back room where several staff were working… no response. Finally, the barkeeper found me, and bade me a set at the bar. No beer on tap, so I ordered a house red. About 5:30, local started coming in. Staff really knew the local folks; I think I was the only non-regular. Seeing as this is a steak place, I ordered the 10 oz Prime Rib with steamed broccoli and French Onion Soup. The prime rib was available in a smaller cut, which is why I ordered it. I love steak, but need to cut back so am normally look for a 6 or 8 oz cut. Anyway, I ordered rare, but the barkeeper came back after checking and said the best they could do was medium rare; which is fine, at least they asked rather than try and pass off medium rare as rare. I love french onion soup, and theirs was very good; could have stood some more toasting on the cheese but for a restaurant it was excellent. The prime rib was okay, have had much better, but have had much worse. Broccoli was pretty good as well. So, there are not a lot of steak houses in Alabama, so this is probably 4.5 stars for the state. Compared with the steak houses in the rest of the country I have visited, I’d give it a 3.

Best steak and lobster combo in town, easily! I eat here every chance I get(several times a year) and have never been disappointed. In addition I highly recommend the Greek salad as a starter and the crème brûlée(torched at your table) for dessert! The perfect meal.

One of the best steak houses I have been to. Food is excellent and service is great. Is an amazing place for Florence, Alabama and is very unique. Highly recommended if you happen to be in this area.

Sadly, my first experience with George’s was less than a week after having oral surgery. I considered not attending a big group dinner since I wouldn’t be able to chew steak very well. Thank heavens I didn’t!!! I got the seared tuna and it was unbelievable! Cooked to a perfect medium-rare. Seasoned beautifully. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Everyone in our party raved about all of their dishes. The service was impeccable, except for a brief annoyance with the bartender who seemed to want to serve all the men first before acknowledging a couple ladies who don’t need our significant others to order for us. Overall, one of the best meals I have had in The Shoals! I can’t wait to go back!

We took our friends out for dinner. We heard about George’s from other friends, and that it I it’s the best stakehouse in the area. What an understatement, I had the prime rib and it was so tender and juicy cooked to perfection. My wife had steak and fish. We all are very impressed and Donna, our server was fantastic.

Was overnight and looking for a good meal. Holy moly the food was Absolutely FANTASTIC. I ordered the Filet and Fish Combo. The steak had awesome flavor(is definitely cooked over wood fired grill). So tender and juicy! And the tuna filet was perfect. Never had a better blackened tuna steak in my life. A perfect 5 star restaurant!

Group of four came here twice during week trip to area. All steaks both times, all good both times. Good wine list and selections from bar, ate in bar area, noisy and active in a good way. Service solid and friendly.

Great steak by any standard. If you are in NW Alabama and want an upscale meal this is the place to go. They have a fantastic Greek seasoning on their steak and the blue cheese dressing on the salad are the highlights.

Thanks to a recommendation from people at work, we found our way to George’s Steak Pit for dinner last night. While it is a little of a drive for us, we were very happy with our night out. We had calamari to start, followed by a filet for me and the ribeye butt for him. Mine was cooked perfectly, just a touch more than rare, and practically melted in my mouth. You can tell that they cook over real hickory, and the taste is amazing. As for my poor guy, his steak was a little overcooked, but still tasty. They also make their own dressings here(or, rather, some of their own dressings). We tried the roquefort dressing(fancy blue cheese) and it was fabulous. They have the dressings for sale to go as well, and I was tempted for sure. The service was attentive but not overbearing, and the ambiance was very nice. My two quibbles: the tables are really close together, so the noisy family behind us was a bit of a distraction for him, and I thought that the music was a bit too loud for a nice restaurant like George’s. Overall, I thought it was fabulous, and will definitely go back. It’s also a place that I would recommend to others and that I will take guests to.

The bone-in ribeye I ate on 6÷02÷11 was among the best steaks I have eaten in a while. It had a nice hickory flavor that does not overpower the steak. I skipped desert, regrettably, and everyone else at my table enjoyed theirs. The wine list looked fine, but no craft beers were offered tonight. Otherwise – great! It’s my favorite steak in the Florence area.

George’s is a first-class steak restaurant. The steaks are cooked good. If you haven’t ordered there the steaks are cooked as described, unlike most places that tend to cook them too long. Seafood is good, too. To me, a good seasoned steak, cooked over hickory, doesn’t need any steak sauce. George’s don’t. OH, and stop eating before you fill-up so you’ll have room for dessert, or take a dessert home. Price per person is anywhere from $ 15 – 38.00(for steak and lobster).

I have always maintained that this is the best steak period. Frank who represents his father’s creation of fifty plus years, runs a tight ship and insists on excellence. He has managed to retain his professional grill masters(for real, any other title would be inadequate) hostess and bartender for many years now. The secret to the flavor is the hickory, George’s meats have always been cooked over hickory. Oh yeah, the fact that the meats are dry-aged also has something to do with it, the rib-eye is my personal favorite, but the filet is incredible too. The wine list is not that extensive but I challenge you to find better matched wines to their menu offerings. The front staff are always helpful, pleasant and efficient. I rarely have room for deserts but the last time I had the cheese cake and a George’s coffee, it was the perfect end to a perfect meal. Another thing I like about George’s is that almost every time I eat there Frank(the owner) drops by to personally inquire about the quality of our dining experience. Really good steaks are getting harder and to find, so I highly encourage you to go experience for yourself what a fifty year old business model looks like today. George would be proud.
