People who say«I’ll never go back there again» don’t realize all the revolving door with cooks and prep-cooks that’s behind the proverbial curtain. People who say that they won’t go back WILL get the same cook at another restaurant some day down the road.. .. true story.

I’ve given this place lots of tries as it’s a favorite of my husband’s. The wait staff are friendly and nice but overworked and I have actually watched my order come up and sit until it was inedible. The fish is consistently overcooked, dry and greasy. The oysters, which used to be the only reliable dish on the menu, were hard and chewy the last time I was there. The rolls are always dry. I was a professional baker for years and I would recommend they change to a reliable frozen dough product. I ordered a well done burger to go and found it to be quite pink with a sizable hair included. I will never eat here again, ever. The place is a dive and the food is a low second after providing a place for poker and football on a large screen. It’s a pity, because the staff is usually very nice.

Just stopped in at Spenser’s Bar&Grill for a late lunch… We were pretty hungry, so ordered a side salad, steamer clams and Fish&chips. Side salad, was fine-you really can’t mess that up, though. Steamers were so-so, cooked in a garlic-veggie bath. Fish&chips were the ticket of disappointment. Only stopped here 2x times before in the past 20yrs… Won’t be stopping again. The menu was all over the board with countless times, no specifics on what their main menu items are. Unless you are needing a beer, I wouldn’t stop at Spenser’s for food.

Definitely a local favorite with a water view. Good food, good prices, just not some place you’d call fancy. This is your typical country restaurant that has been around forever. Bring a fishing pole, there’s a small dock outside the dining room. Most of the parking is across the road — be careful crossing — speed limit is 35mph but 50mph is probably average.

We ordered one entrée to-go and were told it would be a 15 minute wait. An hour later we left with the food. We complained to the owner and she«comped» us with some cheesecake. I don’t know what was worse … The food or the service. It is worth the extra time to drive into the town of Shelton for something much better.

Perfect place for afternoon lunch in the summertime. Spencer chips are a must and the view over the lake is superb.

The view of the water from the restaurant is beautiful. The bar does look like a very fun atmosphere on game day. It is a bit clunky trying to get to the restaurant seating going through the bar area. My polish scramble was good, but not great. What sets this apart though… the server(older male) was great he was very kind and attentive. I would come back again.

I’ve grown up since childhood loving the food here until the lead chef quit and now this place has horrid cooks besides one and the service is poor unless u want someone serve you with a bitchy attitude. And the bar serves really low quality alcohol. But don’t buy food here unless u enjoy bad food. Last time I was here I ordered a steak cooked medium rare. I got a severely burnt, dry well well over cooked nasty slab of meat. I told the waitress my meat is not edible due to how over cooked it was and hot up and walked off leaving some cash for the soda.

I give the bar 3* and the restaurant –4* for being the worst pizza I have ever had, including frozen pizzas. I could hardly choke down 1 slice. My wife had the Sautéed Jumbo Prawns which were nearly flavorless except for all the green peppers. The bar looked nice with pool tables and a big screen but the disgusting food made us want to leave. They had a nice view of Spencer Lake. Fire your Chef.

Wow, some really harsh… and wrong, reviews. We visit this area often and stop at Spencer Lake for lunch, sometimes dinner. Hamburgers, Reubens, fish and chips are all good. Twice we had their prime rib dinner and it was very good. So, I think people should explore the menu and ask the waitress. The place has always been clean when we have been there. This place was remodeled and expanded after the big fire a few years ago. While the name has been in place for decades, the place is pretty new with tile and carpet, wood accent walls and some great, restful views… also grand kid friendly! So.I think the low ratings are way off base… this place is what It ought to be for a local, rural tavern and restaurant.

Like bad food, a trashy ambiance, and a redneck clientele? Go here!

The place itself is fine and It has a cool view of the lake and it is what I would consider a Shelton traditional eating establishment. The food at this place is HORRIBLE! I ended up here because the place up the street ran out of pizza an there is basically no other option in this desolate part of town. I waited over an hour for 2 small pizzas and when they arrived I was in shock. My son’s pizza looked like it had been stuck in the broiler of a roast daddy oven for an hour on high. The substance on top of the pizza which I am guessing was once cheese was a new highly unidentifiable substance. The pizza was vile… vile! keep on trucking.

I’m 100% sure that every single chef at this restaurant learned how to cook in the prison kitchen. This place is disgusting. I have no idea where they get off serving seafood and pizza that doesn’t even compare to a frozen Gorton’s or Celeste. Great views, though! But honestly, I’d rather eat amazing food in a torture chamber from Hostel than something that tastes like old farts while I look at a mountain.

I think the last reviewer was a bit harsh. This is a very small town and the restaurant/bar is old and well used, it is not a fancy resort town, they cater to the snow birds. We were in town for Track Day Races at the speedway and stayed in a cute B&B up the road from this place. The B&B owners recommended it, and called ahead to reserve us a seat at the window. It was a lovely view on a stormy day. It is a bit odd how they have the place set up, you have to go thru the bar, next to the kitchen, down a hallway, and then into the back of the place for the Restaurant portion. I think this used to be a house. They have a huge selection of various food, appetizers, burgers, breaded seafood, chicken, and of all things Prime Rib! I think most of the food is from Sysco or something similar. I ordered the Chicken Neptune which was OK, it was a chicken breast(pre-pounded and cooked I think) covered with Hollandaise Sauce and Bay Shrimp. It was served with a roll, corn and a baked potato. The Baked Potato was the best part of the meal, I don’t eat corn and the bread was not worth wasting my calories on. The chicken had an odd consistency, but it tasted OK, the sauce was ok and the shrimp were good. Overall it was a decent meal, the soup, which was obviously home made was delish! Hubby got the last piece of Prime Rib and I traded a few bites, yum it was delicious. I have had some pretty crappy Prime Rib in my life, but this quite good, perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. It came with the same accompaniments as my dinner, however hubby opted for the salad(which due to the chemical taste I can tell you, comes out of a bag). Overall the food was good, this is not gourmet food so don’t expect it, if you put it into context of their location and the clientele they cater to, the food is perfect.

Let’s start with the positive. The waitress was friendly and the dining room had a nice view, this is why they get two stars. If my husband had gone into the restroom before we had ordered we never would have eaten there. It was disgusting, distroyed and unusable. The kitchen shouldn’t have access to the diners, bad hygiene, etc. and the food was not worth the price. An $ 18 crab salad where everything was precut and browning with what looked like canned crab on top and fish and chips definately from a supplier, not local. Will never go back!
