The two stars are granted for the very kind waitress and service with many smiles. Besides that, there is little to be desired at this eatery. My friend and I were desperate for some food as we have been driving for a long time. We went into the first restaurant which happened to be the North Side Diner. My friend ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and me the ‘extreme salad’ that only included one piece of fresh pepper and a handful of iceberg lettuce. To be fair, there were lots of croutons and loads of dressing provided — but an extreme salad are not made of these. The food did not taste fresh and did little for our kayaking trip later.

My first experience was not good. We waited 10 minutes to be seated but ended up seating ourselves. We finally got a coffee order in. It took 10 more minutes to get our drinks. We waited another 30 minutes before we managed to get the waitress attention. We asked why it takes so long for eggs. We were told it was so busy. There were all of 8 tables for 2 wait staff. Not busy at all. We waited for 30 more minutes to get food. The bacon was barely cooked. The toast was white, so it was more like hot bread. Correction… cold bread. I ordered over medium eggs but they weren’t cooked enough because the whites were runny. Overall not a g eat experience. I would not recommend this place unless you like undercooked food at a snail’s pace.

Nothing special. I didn’t have anything homemade. What I had seemed to be frozen food off the back of a truck. I can go to grocery store for that.

After a series of disappointing experiences trying the local eateries near our new house in Shenandoah, I wasn’t expecting a lot when I came here. I was very pleasantly surprised. The place promises«country cooking with a smile» and delivers just that. We got the fried pickles(piping hot and absolutely delicious), wing dings(crispy, really good chicken wings), and sides of decent mac and cheese and curly fries(ok, but kind of bland). The meals also come with a really good roll. Our server, Ashely, was extremely attentive and friendly without being at all overbearing. She made us feel very welcome and well looked after. The prices are also very reasonable, with both of us leaving absolutely stuffed and satisfied for about $ 20.50(pre-tip). For a relaxed, casual, tasty meal in Shenandoah, I have yet to find anything better.

Holy Moly! I picked this because it was on Unilocal and was I ever surprised! We picked based on the only 2 Unilocal reviews we saw and did not go wrong. We were there for dinner and I was not expecting much from a 5.99 dinner plate. We ordered the honey chicken plate and the meatloaf plate. The honey chicken was off the hook! The meatloaf was okay but not as great as the chicken. For the price, we got 3 pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetable, and biscuit! It was delicious and so cheap! The meatloaf was this huge thick slab and would have been better if it hadn’t been to the dry side… more ketchup I think… It was just good food for the value. I left stuffed and with a full wallet. The honey chicken rocked!

Northside Diner was nasty today. My sub was gross and soggy. My fries were dry and tasted old. My mom got her order wrong and the cashier charged me twice for one order of fries. The last time I ate there, the food was decent. Must depend on the cook. As for the staff, overcharging is a huge mistake. They need to really pay attention to the customer.

After our trip down skyline drive we happened upon this place on the side of the road. If you are in the mood for good olé country cooking this is a must try. I got the honey dipped chicken some Mac&Cheese, and some greens. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with a flavorful batter. Mac&Cheese was creamy and cheesy which tasted like American cheese. The greens were cooked perfectly with some vinegar on the side. My husband got the fried livers and a chili dog. The livers were a bit too crispy(deep fried) for my taste but, he liked them just fine. The chili on the hot dog was spot on.
