On the Level must be a subcontractor for Home Depot in Ashburn because we got stuck with them to replace our shower door. Home Depot and On the Level never called us as they said they would. It took dozens of phone calls, a couple of in-person visits to HD and a lot of yelling to get the door replacement scheduled and installed. It started with the required visit to measure the space. On the Level was 6.5 hours late – we were given a 12 – 1 p.m. window. He finally showed after 7 p.m. He called once to tell us he’d be late and arrive at 3, and then called to say he’d be there closer to 5 or 6, and then he showed up after 7. He took the same measurements that we’d given HD, but his presence made it «official,» I guess. He said HD would call to schedule the next day. Many phone calls were involved, including HD telling us that OTL would call, but they never did. Eventually, we got the doors installed, and they actually showed up within the time frame they said they would. That was a shock. They didn’t wrap the broken shower door, though, and trailed broken glass down two stories and out the front door. Thanks for that. Never using On the Level or Home Depot for any contracting work again.

Scott is the owner of On The Level, and he was highly recommended to me by a coworker. This was my first home inspection, so I was nervous. There were other choices on Unilocal, but I wasn’t convinced. Scott was on time, very prepared and extremely thorough. He spent 3.5 hours with us looking at and documenting every single detail of the house. It was informative and educational. He pointed out defects, covered possibilities on how they might have occurred, severity and how to fix it. He also pointed out aspects of the house that were quality workmanship. We didn’t have to follow him throughout the entire house. When he was in the attic or on the roof, he would return to us after each section showing his findings via photos on his digital camera. We received the full report less than 24 hours later. It was meticulously documented with plenty of photos with captions itemizing each issue. I shared the report with my father-in-law who has done construction in the past and he remarked that this was the best report he has seen and that our inspector must’ve been excellent. He was! Even though an inspection is upfront cost, it saved us $$$ in the end. We were able to walk away from a money pit. I highly recommend On The Level. You will not regret it. Also– Scott will travel to Northern Virginia.
