Very disappointing! We bought tickets to see the Hillbilly Gypsies last night. Love the gypsies and we were glad they were playing nearby. Hated the opera house set up! Many folks got there early to get a seat. When music started, the floor in front of the stage filled with patrons standing up. People in seats could not see, then it got worse. The people in front of stage were not watching the show. They were talking so loud you could not hear the band. It was bad for the gypsies and horrible for dedicated fans. Many patrons left early. What a waste. Move the Mosh pit to the back!

This venue is SO charming! I have attended several burlesque shows here, and the long, narrow seating area and small but raised stage is absolutely perfect. It really puts you in the mood for olde fashioned live entertainment like burlesque, variety and side-show.

Wonderful restored theater showing indie movies and live music. The popcorn is great, and the décor is super-pretty and fun. Staff is mostly college students and tend to be quite friendly. Fresh, yummy coffee, a choice selection of sodas and candy rounds out tthe experience. A major drawback is the seating. Antique metal rows of chairs are TINY and HARD. Try to grab a pillow or two as you go to your seat — you will want one for your back as well as your tush — or bring your own.(They really should provide pillows for every seat.) They also occasionally feature unique events, like a burlesque night. This is a place to be treasured and supported.

This 1903-era building in downtown Sheperdstown is a cool place to catch a movie or music. The capacity is approximately 100 – 120 people for a concert, considerably less for a movie. The theater seats run down the slope of the room to a level open«dance floor» in front of the stage. Two L-shaped pleather couches separate the seats from the floor. The sound system is quite good for the space and overall the sound for concerts is just fine … nothing to rave or compain about. As mentioned, the small concession stand provides beer, wine, and snacks as well as locally roasted, fresh-brewed coffee. Whoever is booking the music here appears to have a good ear for talent. So if you live in the area, don’t hesitate to drop the meager $ 5 – 10 cover to check out the well-curated lineup of regional and national touring acts. Sheptown is lucky to have this place. And it gives me one more reason to keep coming back to this lovely and friendly town along the Potomac River.

Cozy and quaint. I didn’t see much room for dancing, which was hard with bluegrass, so I danced from my chair. :) we had a great time!

I love this place! I have seen the Hillbilly Gypsies play here twice and loved every second of it! Great acoustics, ample seating and standing room, and good people make visiting the Opera House a wonderfully memorable experience. This is a perfectly quaint, nostalgic, and romantic venue nestled in the heart of downtown Shepherdstown. The smaller size of the venue allows for intimate performances and a lighthearted atmosphere. The snack bar has a great selection of beer and some snacks to munch on while watching the show! If you ever find yourself in Shepherdstown the Oprea House is a must for either a great flick or entertaining show.

Just saw a movie recently and loved the old theater feel to it. Nice small concession with root beer in bottles and popcorn. No teeny boppers here which was a treat. The selection movies was great. Don’t expect block buster hit which is fine. Def a plus! Lots of small restaurants near by.

Love this place! The movies shown here are always well chosen and its the only place to see Independent/Foreign films in the area. The only negative is that the seating there is not very comfortable– those old Opera Seats are tiny and very hard. The theater offers cushions and it’s amusing to see everyone surreptitiously try to grab as many cushions as they can. The theater serves beer, wine and snacks which can be brought in– another nice touch.
