Under new management, I believe, from the previous reviews. Absolutely gorgeously adorable, a stone’s throw from anything you’d care to do or see in Shepherdstown, if you’re looking for a B&B you’d Best Be coming here. Lauren, the owner, was welcoming and helpful, but not obtrusive. Despite our being the only guests(it was a Tuesday night in early fall), the place was fully set up as if we were the most important folks in the world. It’s as quiet as it can be for a house on the main strip(and remember, this is Shepherdstown, not Manhattan, so even the worst road noise isn’t exactly the Major Deegan), and the rooms are charmingly appointed. Most but not all have private baths, so if you want one, be sure to book one. Breakfast included fresh homemade muffins(gluten-free, if you care – I don’t, but they were still great!) and all-local ingredients for the main fare – a green bean frittata with bacon the way it ought to be!

I’d give four and a half if I could. As another reviewer stated, the service is «…attentive, but not intrusive.» The inn is beautiful, cozy and the owners have provided many thoughtful details. And, they go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. Breakfast was wonderful — the apple soup is to die for. The sherry makes for a nice nightcap. All in all, a very nice weekend with my wife.

Our small tech firm took over the Inn for a business meeting — our annual strategy planning session. The Inn did a fine job. Rooms are nice, comfortable, homey, even a bit antiquey, without being all victorian-doll-house-frilly. Breakfast was nice, coffee was decent, they did a healthy custom-order lunch, service was pleasant and unobtrusive. Plus there was Wi-fi, a decanter of sherry, homemade biscotti and cookies at strategic intervals … and many more little extras. Minor issues: limited parking, in one room wi-fi only worked in the bathroom, more traffic than you’d expect rumbling by the Inn. I can recommend without hesitation for a small business function/retreat. It’s also a great place to bring your spouse for a date weekend — explore town, ride the nearby C&O trail, walk to some great restaurants, and have a great getaway … all within an hour of metro DC/suburbs.
