My family and I have been going to the same dental practice for over 40 yrs. I recently made the decision to leave the practice due to the rude staff and unethical billing and selling practices.
About a month ago, I had a medical emergency and called to cancel an appt 24 hrs ahead. Leah (one of the office staff) told me they were charging me $ 110 for canceling the appt with less than 48 hrs notice. I was never previously notified of the time required to cancel an appointment without being charged. It was awfully convenient that they decided to charge me when I called with 24 hours notice, which is customary for most dental practices and doctors offices.
I started closely checking all bills coming from this dentist office. I noticed that they started to charge interest on my payments. Again, another thing they did not notify me in advance. Just a convenient surprise on my bill. And there is nothing in writing explaining the interest rate or what it’s for on any of the documentation or the bill.
Even the State Dental board says their behavior and billing practices are unethical.
After the first bill, they remove the itemized details and start adding interest to any balance. In the successive bills, you can’t tell where the interest is coming from if you’re not looking carefully and keeping track of every bill.
In addition, they are always trying to sell services you don’t need like extra cleanings that are not required. Even selling oral cancel screening to my 21 yr old niece who has never smoked and hasn’t drank alcohol a day in her life.
Pam (rude office manager) had scheduled some 10 minute jaw alignment and lymph node exam that costs more than $ 100 without notifying me in advance. When I arrived for my regular cleaning and refused the additional exam she was trying to sell me, she became very irate and scolded me for not canceling the extra exam in advance because she had scheduled the additional time with the doctor.
Five other family members of mine have left this practice after going for so many years. I am now the sixth.
I would not recommend this dentist practice to anyone. You would think that Dr. Mangia would pay attention after so many long time patients (some that have been patients for decades) continue to leave. Apparently, he doesn’t care.

Dr. Mangia is the best dentist around. I used to live in Burbank and then Los Feliz so getting to Sherman Oaks was no problem. I have since moved southwest… all the way to the LBC. That doesn’t matter, I still make the commute all the way to the sultering hot San Fernando Valley to see Dr. Mangia, Pam, Monica, Diana & Carrie! They are awesome and have become like family. I fully trust Dr. Mangia & his team. The fillings on my teeth have been flawless and painless… thank you anesthesia! After the cleanings I leave feeling so fresh. I highly recommend Dr. Mangia if you need a new dentist.

Painless experience!
Dr. Mangia is has the magical touch. I felt almost nothing when he took care of filling a rather deep cavity. I listened to music on my ipod so I wouldn’ t hear the sound. Really, it was quick and no big deal at all even though the cavity was in the back of my mouth between two molars (very difficult access point).
Given, I didn’t have any of the more complicated tooth problems that come with age like crowns and root canals, I still feel comfortable with Dr. Mangia and if I did have a more serious dental problem (God forbid) I would come back no question.
Obviosly by appointment only and try to be on time.

I came to this office with a sore tooth that was sensitive to cold and rather than suggesting an immediate extraction, Dr. Mangia quickly determined that it was caused by some small, exposed nerve ending which he quickly and painlessly treated. I was so relieved to have found a simple solution that saved my tooth. I think another dentist might have pushed for extraction so I am very grateful I came to Dr. Mangia.
I returned for him to make an extra partial denture for me in case I would lose or damage my original one. He did a great job with it so I recommend him to Unilocalers for dental prostheses. He later took care of two cavities by filling them and the teeth have not given me any problems since.
Dr. Mangia has a unique numbing needle that really makes you feel no pain. It is attached to a thin tube connected to a bottle of anesthetic. It is an amazing device. I highly recommend Dr. Mangia for anyone like me who is avoiding having their teeth cared for because they are afraid of pain.
Dr. Mangia is extremely competent and professional, as is his entire staff.

I am sure like most people, I don’t love going to the dentist, BUT Dr, Mangia is a wonderful dentist. He is very kind, thorough and has always made me feel extremely comfortable. I not only go to Dr. Mangia for regular dental exams, cleaning… etc, I have had some beautiful cosmetic/​dental work done by him. In addition, Dr. Mangia has a terrific office staff.
