Lou’s Shoe Repair

This is the best place to bring shoes, bags — anything that needs repair or reconditioning. Lou can make anything look brand new. He is also very honest and tells me when something is not worth fixing.
I brought in a pair of my nephew’s leather shoes that looked like throw aways and after new leather soles and cleaning and polishing, they looked better than when he first bought them!

I’ve been working with Lou for 15 years… and in all that time he has never once failed to impress me with his excellent prices and ability to completely restore the worst damage. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Somehow he repaired my melted heels. And it was a fair price. I will return with more shoes! Thank, again !

Lou’s is a little mom and pop store in Sherman Oaks. I like taking my business to this old-​timey place. No frills; he gives you your finished shoes in plastic bag. I’m a little surprised by the comments about price. I have never had an issue about price here, and I never feel like Lou wants to get me to spend more money than I need to. For instance, I brought in some Mary Jane’s that had four buttons, but one had fallen off. I thought I would have to replace all four, so that they’d match, but he looked around his button collection and came up with one that was close enough. It looked great. Then I brought in a 10-​year old pair of shoes that needed to be completely resoled for the umpteenth time and an extreme buff and polish job. They were a hot mess. Now, I had brought these shoes to another shoe repair place and when the quote was a little steep, I decided to take them to Lou. He quoted me $ 20 cheaper. They turned out great (see photos). The only problem is parking can be a hassle in this area, but it’s worth a little walk. I’m glad Lou’s continues to do business in this trendy little area.

I like this place. The owner, whom I will assume is Lou, is very nice. The first time I went there, I walked in off the street because I had ink on my purse. He helped me clean it for no charge. I then started bringing my boots to him. It generally costs $ 25 to get my boots looking like brand new. Once, I needed to go back about a week after I had picked up my boots because one of the pads had fallen off the heel. He fixed it and repolished my boots for free. It might not be the cheapest place in the world, but I’m happy to support a small business with nice people who care about their customers and provide excellent customer service.
Oh, they do not take credit cards so make sure you have cash.

Took two pairs of shoes to Lou’s and he wanted $ 35. This was so outrageous that I just said «I’m not gonna do it then» and walked out. I drove less than a mile to Mike’s Shoe Repair and they asked for only $ 10 for the same repair. Lou was clearly trying to rip me off just because he thought I would say yes to the exhorbitant fee. Avoid Lou’s unless money means nothing to you or, you know very well the market rate and you ensure that Lou gives you that rate.
