We’ve done a number of kids classes in the Studio City and Sherman Oaks area and this is one of the more expensive ones around. Blue Starz and Kreation Station have similar classes that are more affordable. Ovation focuses on one performance of a specific show. The teachers are friendly, but the only negative is that if your child isn’t one of the leads, there are only a few, it’s not worth it. My child had a few lines, so after about 5 weeks in, she didn’t want to go as she was bored. We won’t be signing up again.

Ovation Performing Arts Center is top notch! It’s a one-​stop-​shop for children’s musical theater and offers classes from mommy and me, all the way up to teenager’s, and they have adult classes, too! My daughter has been a part of Ovation for several years and she sincerely loves it there! The teachers are just fantastic and supportive and skilled and energetic and lovely. There are Acting classes and dance classes, Improv, and they also put on fantastic musical theater productions. It’s a very nurturing, and supportive environment and kids are treated with respect and positive reinforcement and encouragement, and at the same time are challenged to stretch themselves, step out of their comfort zone and really hone their acting/​singing/​dancing skills and get trained as a performer. My daughter’s confidence level has tremendously grown over the years, thanks to Ovation. And her ability to now walk into a room and comfortably audition and perform are greatly due to Ovation’s fantastic leadership and teachers. Ovation is now in a beautiful new space in Sherman Oaks and they even offer «valet drop off» for some of their classes, which makes it so easy for the parents! The owners, Lisa and Laurel, have built an amazing business and studio! Another unique aspect about Ovation, is in the musical theater program, where each child has a «lead» role… it is not exclusive/​competitive. Kids still audition; however, each child secures a featured part with lines and songs. Thank you, Ovation!

I went to a production with a friend to see her daughters performance and what struck me the most was the love, care and attention the teachers gave to each and every student. Everyone had they starring moment and those teachers made sure of that. The students seemed so happy and they were having such a great time. They were just having fun and the joy of it all was in each of their faces.
