Sushi Mama, we miss you! My heart break this place is closed. Best Sushi place I’ve ever been to.

Bummed they sold this place. Used to be my favorite sushi place in the valley. Will definitely miss them. The new place, called Kinza Sushi, doesn’t even come to par with Taka…

I have been coming to House Of Taka for at least ten years, I am not sure why now I am finally writing a review. The sushi is excellent for the value, the quality and the creativity of the different rolls is exceptional. My favorite is the«Home Depot,» roll, it’s a must order. If you’re looking for super high end sushi, you will pay a lot more somewhere else but for just a step under, House of Taka is the place. I do feel that the restaurant is starting to get a little rundown and needs to be cleaned up some, also the menu could use a facelift. Free parking in back!

I still love this place! I keep trying other sushi places as they open up, but nothing beats the creativity and portion size here. Still get Home Depot and Japanese Ceviche every time, but now we have added the Salmon Delight into the mix(all of these are sans rice, perfect for low carb if you take the crispy onions off the HDR) Highly recommend– sushi is expensive no matter what, but their portion sizes and cuts of fish for sushi are the biggest in town.

It hurts to write this. For years I loved taka. The sushi was outstanding. The last 3 times I have gone there has been service and quality issues. Odd thing is, Taka hasn’t been there during my visits. Yesterday just ended it for me. I went for lunch alone, shortly after 12. I was the first customer at opening. Because I have been there so many times I knew my order when I sat down. I couldn’t help but notice the 2 sushi chefs weren’t moving. Just laughing and joking. Another customer came in and placed an order. At that point they started making the rolls. His orders came out. 4 rolls ! I had just one. I was annoyed because I was on my lunch break. Eventually it came out. Looked great but it had so much mayo, argh I wanted to be sick. Taka, get it together. Get control of your staff.

I’m sorry, but absolutely a TWOSTAR«meh, I’ve experienced better.» Is it egregious that the best thing about this place is the free parking at the back of the restaurant? All of the rolls we ordered were kinda smushy and soft, which is not a palatable texture by any means. The tastes themselves were all right; nothing so fresh as to weep, which is totally possible with great sushi — unfortunately, it is not the case here. The service was a bit wonky, and we had two different servers coming by, mixing up drink refills as they went along and didn’t coordinate.

Who knew!!! Quick dinner with parents, last minute reservation to whatever was closer. I think I even been here a few years back… aaaaaaand OMG! Yes, it’s not a sugarfish type of sushi(which I usually prefer) but OMG!!! The Home Depot plate… You know when you’re halfway through the dish and realize that you’re the only one at the table who’s not sharing and instead of sharing you start eating faster? That’s exactly the case with that one. It’s simply too good to share. Basically their tuna is amazing, so no matter what you ordered if I here’s tuna in it you’ll love it. The handrolls are giant. Complimentary ice-cream.

I came here recently on a recommendation from a friend and I can’t say anything bad about the place. Other than the sketchy parking situation around the back. The owner/workers were all super friendly, the sushi chef Jeff was on point, and the bill was not overly expensive for the quality of fish we got. Everything was really great. Fried oysters, Home Depot roll(no rice yay), sashimi was on point, and we got hooked up with free ice cream. I’d say all in all a good time. These people are so sweet and the food was all delicious. While I was sitting there I saw a bunch of stuff I want next time. So I’ll definitely be back soon!

We came here for dinner with a group of great Unilocal friends. Sushi House Of Taka has been the restaurant that Stephanie P. and I been wanted to try for awhile. Sushi House Of Taka located on Van Nuys Blvd. They have plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant and also street parking. The service was attentive and friendly. They were kind enough to do 5 separate bills. Food: Starters: Garlic Shishito Peppers: This was very tasty and good. Agedashi Tofu: This was ok The tofu was nice and lightly battered and fried well. The sauce was just your typical ponzu. It was a bit salty. Salmon Skin Salad: This was excellent. They were very generous with the salmon skin and the portion was huge. Great for sharing. Main: Vampire Roll and Tsunami Roll: These are your typical roll. There were no wow factor here. It was lacking flavor. Chirashi Bowl: When this came out I was like WOW. Look at the size of the cuts of fish. But in the end it was just your average Chirashi bowl. The spicy tuna that came with it was just plain. It had no flavor of spice. Disappointed ! Uni Nigiri: I love uni, but this one wasn’t great at all. The Uni wasn’t fresh and had that metallic taste. Plus the color was lightly brown. Yellowtail nigiri: This was off too. The taste was very bland, and the color of the hamachi was off. It didn’t even look like a hamachi. It look like a white fish instead. If you a person who likes quantity over quality House of Taka is for you. Their huge cuts fish will Wow you, but other than that it’s just your average sushi joint.

No flavor, big fat chunky SUSHI. The spicy Tuna hand roll had rice and Tuna with NO other garnish or spice in the enormous amount of Tuna. Not coming back.

So I was invited to a group gathering of a few Unilocal peeps the other night because one of the Unilocalers wanted to get her Instigator Unilocal badge. Well, mission accomplished. The place has a nice comfortable ambiance. We all ordered various dishes from the menu as they had traditional plates, nigiri options as well as various sushi rolls. I went with a Salmon Skin Salad and a Rainbow Roll. The salad was pretty tasty with generous pieces of salmon skin and was a good appetizer that we passed around so everyone could have a little bit.(4⁄5) Someone else ordered the Charred Shishito Peppers and these were really good!(5⁄5). One of our party also ordered a Chirashi Bowl which looked really hearty with a variety of nice sized pieces of fish and even an eel piece which I’d never seen before in a Chirashi Bowl. I can’t speak to the taste but from the looks of it, I was impressed. My Rainbow Roll came out and it was colorful as this roll tends to be.(4⁄5) It was tasty too but I wasn’t quite satisfied so I decided to order two nigiri pieces. One of the hamachi or yellow tail and an order of the salmon. These guys are really generous with the slices of fish which other reviewers have commented on. I wouldn’t complain about it because I consider it a good thing actually. However, I was a little disappointed in the flavor of the hamachi. I’ve had hamachi on many occasions and this just didn’t taste right to me. It was very, very bland to the point that I was thinking it could be a white fish. It was also slightly mushy and very watery in texture like it was either just defrosted and the coloring was a little off being more on the silver side. I don’t know, I didn’t care for it very much. Strangely enough, it also was served to me with the fish pieces cut in half? Did they give me left overs?(2⁄5) The salmon nigiri was alright however(3.5÷5). They give us ice cream for checking in on Unilocal and so we got a round of the green tea, cappuccino and coconut flavors. People were commenting that it was a little too icey in texture. I thought the cappuccino was good though.(3.5÷5) The staff was very attentive with our waitress constantly refilling our water glasses. There’s also ample parking behind the restaurant. I felt my dining experience was just okay as I’ve definitely had better sushi at other Japanese restaurants. I don’t think I’d return.

The ambience it’s nice, but the fish? I ordered a phillyroll and Salmon hand roll, then I was thinking of ordering the chefs choice sashimi… Hmmm I didn’t think so after I tried both salmon choices. Yes portions are big but of mushi and way too fat salmon. It was not fresh at all. The prices go according the portion not the quality. it was huge but not even firm enough to hold the rice. :/ If you prefer quantity over quality this is the place!

Went there for lunch today terrible experience. Order the lunch special hand rolls spicy scallop, spicy Tuna and cali hand roll. Spicy tuna was awful there was NO flavor to it. Didn’t even taste the spicy in the tuna! Spicy scallop roll was too chopped up and no flavor to the mayo it all taste bland. I only give this place 2 star because the service is friendly. Won’t be coming back here

Had lunch here because I was lured by the Uni bowl recommendation in the picture. Too bad I didn’t try it because it was a whopping $ 25. I’m definitely not that huge of a fan of uni. Instead I had the chirashi lunch special, $ 16. We also tried the east coast roll and a spicy scallop hand roll. Why are the prices of the hand and cut roll about the same price? That’s because the hand roll is gigantic! It was overflowing with scallops that you can’t even pick it up as a whole. As for the taste, I didn’t really like that it was minced up scallops and didn’t taste any spiciness. The east coast roll was a California roll with salmon in top. I liked this roll but would have preferred spicy tuna inside instead. There was very minimal rice and a good amount of salmon covering the roll. My utmost fast favorite was the chirashi bowl. It was a lot of sea creatures over rice. It had eel, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, spicy tuna, tamago, avocado, and asparagus. Sooooo goood. I think this is the best way to enjoy sashimi without hurting your wallet. Since it was their lunch special, it also came with miso soup(a bit too salty) and a salad. They have other good lunch specials as well. Parking is in a small lot in the back and service was attentive and great.

More like house of kaka. Place was a huge let down. Was told food qualify was comparable to Sugar Fish or Little Izaka-ya… Ha! Yea Right! Not only was the food unimpressive, but the service was horrendous! The only reason I gave it 2 stars, was because the selection was creative.

I arrived for what I thought was going to be a work meeting & my client couldn’t make it(waaahhhh). However, I was able to get a lot of work done as atmosphere was casual and quiet with nice background music…101.1! The iced green tea was good… it had a very dense flavor and was quite enjoyable. I ordered the albacore hand roll and spicy tuna hand roll… both recommendations from my client who couldn’t make it. Both were giant and delicious! I recommend them both.

Loved it. The end. Haaaa just kidding. But I really did love it. I’m writing this on my way home(passenger seat). I’m gonna start with the ice cream before I forget… Their green tea ice cream tastes nothing like matcha/green tea. It tastes even better. It literally tastes just like earl grey tea, which is the best! I can still taste it! Amazing. The cappuccino flavor was great too. And it was free with the Unilocal check-in. Although the waitress didn’t care to look at the offer and just gave it to everyone in our party. Aside from the delicious ice cream, the fish is fresh & the portions are large! The server even warned us after we turned in the order sheet. «You orda A LOT!» We all kind of laughed thinking, «we know what we’re doing.» Wrong. If you decide to get the Home Depot«roll» you can basically get that alone and be satisfied. It is gigantic. Albacore belly, spicy tuna, spicy crab, spicy squid with fried onions & spicy mayo. It was the Japanese version of «everything but the kitchen sink». It was overwhelming but yummy. Now, the vampire roll was DELICIOUS. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with garlic and they mix garlic paste with various kinda of raw fish(spicy tuna as the front runner). I will definitely get that again. Also, the Sake Margarita is good & has me feeling a little loopy. I blame that for my rambling and I haven’t even mentioned the service yet. Haaa. — The service was great! They were very friendly and attentive. Overall, I loved the meal and atmosphere. I already want to go back to buy all of their earl grey ice cream. Ahem, I mean green tea ;)
