It was our first time at V.E. and we were impressed both with the food and service. The staff was super friendly from the beginning to end and the food was fantastic. We ordered garlic bread, meat sauce spaghetti with meatball, lobster ravioli and pizza(½ hawaiian, ½ Vs special) Everything hit our spot just right. Even our 2 yr old son wanted more(picky eater) Pretty busy for a Sunday dinner but food came out faster than expected. There was an older Italian lady next to our table and even she said she enjoys coming to Vitello’s Express There seemed to have changed ownership about a yr ago and from the previous reviews, it seemed like it took some time for them to figure things out but from today’s dinner, I have say they got it right! The dessert they pack you is also super delicious. We got the strawberry cake to go but finished it in the car on our way home. We enjoyed the whole dinner experience today and will be coming back for sure!

Ordered the stracciatella soup, lasagna and chicken picatta. Stracciatella is my favorite soup, and was not happy when I first opened it. It smelled like the spinach had not been washed prior to cooking. I had to put the lid back on so I didn’t have to smell it. Lasagna wasn’t too bad, but not worth the $. And… the chicken picatta had zero flavor. Not even adding salt and pepper helped. I don’t know if I will try this again, but as they say, «first impressions are everything».

Love this cute patio which offers a lot of charm. Nice relax space offering some peace along bustling Ventura. Enjoyed the little lights at night and plenty of heat lamps in cooler weather. The staff was all super friendly & even through in free dessert with our entrée order. The food is good. I wouldn’t rush out of my way to eat here, but it’s really about the full package — friendly staff, great atmosphere and tasty Italian food. Definitely a great affordable place to stop by when your in the neighborhood.

One of the best Italian places on Ventura! The marinara sauce is on point(with a pinch of Parmesan). The owner even lit up the fireplace for me and bae. Plus you get a free dessert with an entrée! That tiramisu tho!!!

I honestly really enjoyed this place. My first time here, and I’m not familiar with the old ownership. But I only have nice things to say. Casual, comfortable, open-air atmosphere, playoff game on TV w/sound(but not distractingly loud), walking distance from my place, delicious food, and BYOB(W) all made for the perfect early Saturday dinner. The Chicken Parmesan I ordered was perfectly cooked — up there with some of the best. Even the side salad had some umpf to it, more than most basic ones I’ve ordered elsewhere. The service was super friendly and helpful. I’ll be back no question.

2 stars because garlic fries were good, yet barely warm when I got them. Waited 15 minutes in a completely empty place around 11 am for a not so «Italian sandwich» …rather a failure. Old crappy bread with some whatever like cold cuts and some lettuce. No onions, dressing, nothing. Really tasted like something they made the day before and pulled out of the fridge when I asked for it. 15 bucks for this? I don’t think so.

I’m going to start by saying that it gets two stars because the pizza was yummy. but the pasta gets declined in my list and the sandwiches as well I’ve had heard so many great things about this place but none stand up to what I have eaten there. I will go back for pizza only. that’s just my honest review.

Pizza is thin cracker style with burnt edges. Pizza is cheaper by the slice. Ordered a large and a single slice to go. The single slice was half the size of the large pizza. 1⁄5 the price. Great view of Ventura Blvd. in the heart of Sherman Oaks.

Pretty solid pizza and quick. The Queen Anne salad is really good. They deliver and have really good ingredients. The seating and atmosphere is nice outside.

We just got home from Vitello’s. It was a rainy night. They had the shades pulled down and the fireplace on. The ambiance was just perfect. Loved it. The place was almost empty(why are Californian’s scared of rain?). The service was excellent. VERY nice people. The food was good. I prefer pizza cooked more and will order it well done next time, but it was still good quality ingredients. I really liked the chicken parmesan. The farfalle restive was very good. Prices are on the higher side if you’re paying full prices, but they have some awesome deals during happy hour. We didn’t get happy hour prices because we used a coupon(had to spend a certain amount anyway). Service is VERY important to me. I’m just done with going to places where the people aren’t nice. We’ve stopped going to a nearby Italian restaurant just because we felt unwelcome. Clearly, Vitello’s Express is doing something right because not one employee we saw was unfriendly. On top of that, they gave us free desert to try. They’re going above and beyond. One more thing… the pizza came out just about the same time as the meals. I’ve seen some other recent reviews. I say go decide for yourself. We had a very nice night and were relaxed for a change.

Vitello’s Express has reached an all new low. My wife and I ordered about two or three times a week. She loved the Veggie Sauté with chicken. When the new owners took over a few months ago that all changed. At first they just changed the way it was cooked. We complained that the $ 11 dollar veggie sauté was now no more than a cup of over cooked veggies with marinara sauce. What was worse was when we added chicken, note the word added, the actually gave less veggies due to the chicken. After two failed attempts and talking to the staff we inquired a little more from the older staff members. The staff was really honest with us, they were great and winced they delivered to us that much we knew them well. They simply said the place was getting a ton of complaints and apologized. Totally not their fault, the new owners are completely to blame. I tried once again tonight. My wife was craving her veggie sauté so I went to the counter in person. I pleaded with the young man to get it right. I waited, I went home and presented the veggie sauté with chicken to my wife. I actually ordered a second sauté with out chicken because she wanted extra. What we got was a cup of steamed veggies. No marinara sauce, no sauté and no good. A cup of friggin steamed veggies with chicken for $ 15! I took it back and the poor guy just returned my money. He had clearly done this before. I made sure the owner or at least the adult in charge heard my rational well worded complaints and he did exactly what I expected… Nothing! They have added smoothies and teas… To a friggin Italian restaurant. Well. Good bye Vitello’s, it was nice while it lasted. By the way, as I was waiting to return my food I watched two ladies return their food as it was completely screwed up. Apparently the new owners serve Coke pastas and pecorino pizzas with out actually using pepperoni on a regular basis. It officially sucks.

When I was a kid I used to bother my mom all the time to buy a Chef Boyardee pizza kit that I would see on commercials. After several weeks of pestering she finally relented and I got my kit. We read the instructions together and I «helped» construct my very own home made pizza. Naturally I was very excited and after about 20 minutes or so I had my very own home made pizza. Unfortunately my initial enthusiasm waned quickly when I bit into the first slice. Why didn’t it taste like Pizza Pete or Numero Uno? It tasted more like the pizza they served in the school cafeteria which had a bad reputation even among my 2nd grade class. Fast forward many years and I’m driving down Ventura blvd past Vitello’s Express. The sign announcing a lunch special of 2 slices and a drink for $ 7 seemed too good to be true and alas it was. After waiting nearly 20 minutes for the teenage chef to bring out my burnt slices, yes they were burnt, I decided to forge ahead with my resolve to try them any way. At first bite the Vitello’s slice took me back to that Chef Boyardee pizza I made with my dear ol’ mom when I was a boy, the sauce was vaguely similar and the cheese might’ve been a little fresher but there was something sinister about the crust, something very wrong as if it might’ve been a yoga mat in a past life clinging to life as a zombified pizza crust. Also of note, the teenage chef managed the impossible, somehow burning both slices while keeping the dough toward the top slightly uncooked. I’ll admit such a feat is impressive from a logistical standpoint but once the taste buds register the effects to the brain the fun and games are over.

A great place to go to for lunch if you are in a hurry. You can order through their website and or through Unilocal! They lunch specials which are really convenient. I usually go with the cesar salad, slice of cheese pizza and soda — all for $ 8. The staff is also friendly.

Ok our new favorite faux Chicago deep dish think crust pizza– it was sooo good and I don’t usually even like that kind of pizza! Chicken piccata was ok– sauce was not lemony/flavorful enough chicken breast was soft /good if your kids are picky & like chicken a bit more bland order it up.

Not bad if you are in a pinch for lunch/dinner and need something quick. I have not tried their pizza, but to me, this place is special because you can have dinner made quick for you not being pizza when pizza is a normal go-to. The parking situation isn’t bad, I have had no problem with street parking or the spots in the back. The ladies at the counter are nice and offer for me to drink water while I am waiting. No real stand out dishes, sadly. Just a great place to grab some Italian really quick, when that is normally not something you can eat quick. Oh– there is a stand out dish, the cheesecake! Yum! :)

Unless you’re the only customer here, the service is terrible and gets worse every time I come here. I called in a pickup order and was told my food would be ready in 15min. I showed up 20 min later and still didn’t get my food for another 25 min. I got nothing but a casual apology while my 3 year-old is screaming in the car because he’s hungry. I wanted to sit there and argue but with my family at home waiting for me, I needed to get home ASAP. The decent thing to do would’ve been to either discount my check or at least throw in a free dessert or something. If the owners are reading this, let this be a lesson to you in customer service. The food used to be good but now they are always inconsistent. Portions vary in size and the pizza is sometimes burnt. With the sushi restaurant now open next door, you can absolutely forget about parking. Unless you’re picking up curbside or walking there, expect to park far far away.

Convenient, friendly and tasty, but too dirty. Parking in the back(3 spots, I think) and the food is quick. Definitely not fast food, but still super casual and grabbing a quick bite by yourself isn’t unusual here. Large Salads are very large and made very fresh. My only complaint is the cleanliness. Salt & pepper shakers and other condiments on the tables are filthy as are the seats, tables & floor. If this place just had a good thorough cleaning it would be amazing.
