Inspired by mediterranean dishes, with a twist of Italian culinary combinations, the hype to this restaurant really had my undivided attention. After promising recommendations, and extensive talk by my foodie colleagues, I was actually quite excited to have lunch at The Blue Door Café. Walking in the restaurant, the decorative vibrant blue sky colors, gave me a sense that my taste buds were set for a culinary trip. The menu was very well put together and simple and did not have the typical restaurant appetizers that bore me. The main dishes were quite diverse with plates of lam kabobs, and decadent lobster ravioli to lamb shanks and spicy chicken penne. Of course I was impressed and undecided with many options. And so my guest and I decided to order the Bruschetta to start the culinary experience we were hoping for. The bruschetta was outstanding, fresh thin slices of whole tomatoes, drizzled in olive oil sauce topped with a light coat of parsley and Italian seasonings. And not to mention the hot, fresh toasted to perfection french baguette that complimented all of the toppings well. The fresh Italian cheese on top gave it that texture of dairy it needed. A good cheese it was. We finished all 6 separate pieces of the appetizer plate, and the anticipation for the main dish was growing even more. My guest was so satisfied, that her tables manners were completely thrown out the window, and so she started scraping the plate with her finger eating the remaining seasonings and olive oil drippings! And to her and my dismay, two COCKROACHES had some how camouflaged with the seasonings left over on the side of the plate… I was disgusted and appalled with this incompetent blind act of unsanitary disregard for human health! The light fresh appetizer quickly turned to a horrid stomach ache, and had to convince my mind that the worse was already seen and not eaten. I was outraged and boiling inside with anger. How could this have passed all the restaurant staff including the waitress, who don’t ever bother to double check even the slightest garnish touch! The waitress had the nerve and the audacity and I quote she said«Oh my gawwwsh that has never happened before!» It insulted me even more, alongside with the prestigious health inspections of Texas! I wanted to tear the owner apart, but at last I am not the person to make a scene and so my guest calmly told the owner of the atrocity. The owner didn’t even bother to show her face. Low excuse of chaperon and owner, she decided to hide behind her shame. The Blue Door café shall never receive my money, nor have me as guest. It isn’t worthy of even one star, but thanks to the un convince of Unilocal and its generosity I have no option.

Hole in the wall and not very much parking but the food makes up for it. The lamb shank is so tender it is unreal.

Went here today on my break. I was the only one there which was surprising because it was lunch time. I ordered the lamb gyro and hummus. The hummus was wonderful and the gyro was even better. Amazing taste. Giant in size, and loaded with goodies!!!

I usually love Greek food, but my gyro had a pickle in it. Just didn’t seem that authentic, but maybe other things on the menu are better.

Just terrible. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that it was cold. I asked that I not be seated near a vent. Evidently, every seat is near a vent. All the curtains decorating the booths were fluttering, so I was uncomfortably cold the whole time. Problem one was that they aren’t run my Lebanese, so nothing was very authentic. I ordered a mixed appetizer plate with hummas, Baba Ganoush, and fafalel. The hummas has a lot of parsley in it. It was bad. It’s not supposed to have parsley in it. The Baba Ganoush had a pretty good flavor, but there was a very bitter under taste. The fafalel were hard little chunks with yogurt/cucumber sauce. That was $ 10. Then I ordered a chicken kabob. I got lots of food. There was the chicken over rice, a tiny bit of grilled vegetables, a bowl of yogurt/cucumber dip, and a bowl of chopped tomatoes and cucumbers. I had told the waitress that I didn’t like cucumbers when I was nibbling at the appetizers. You’d have thought that she might have offered me some substitutions for the cucumber items, but she didn’t. So… The grilled part of the meal was burnt and the pieces of chicken were too dry to eat without some of the vegetables in the same bite. The rice was kind of dry, too. That was $ 16.00. So now, I’m up to $ 26.00 and haven’t had anything I liked yet. I decided to get a piece of their turtle cheesecake to take home. That put my bill over $ 30.00. With a tip, I think I left with a $ 39.00 charge. I decided to eat the cheesecake later at home. Even that was bad. It tasted kind of «watered down» like it was made with skim milk or something. The texture wasn’t thick and creamy like it’s supposed to be. Needless to say, I’ll never go back there.

This place is good… not great, but good. Service is very good. Menu is not like the previous owners. There are items that I truly miss from the previous owners(eg. seared ahi tuna steak, bruschetta, NY strip steak). The things they have now are good, just missing the old stuff.

Great atmosphere and best mediterranean option in the area. Real chef preparing meals and everything is served and presented with care and attention to detail. Speed of lunch service coold have been quicker but great food was worth a little extra time. Chef came out personally to ask about our opinion of newer menu item. A great pick. I’m a fan!

I’m passing through Sherman, TX for work and much to my delight I stumbled upon this adorable little restaurant. I ate the heck out of a grilled chicken pita with feta and fries. The. HECK. Out. Of. It. In fact, the fries were so good that they did not require ketchup. The pita was this big gorgeous sandwich of overflowing deliciousness. I had an unsweetened iced tea which was lovely. It’s a cute little place with delicious food. My lunch cost ten bucks too… not too shabby. What a cute little find out here! Skip the fast food and hit this place if you are in the area… you’ll spend the same amount and get a wayyyy better meal!

My wife and I LOVE this restaurant. The gyro plate is great! Just dont order the curry, because the people in this area have convinced the owner/chef to «tone down» his curry so much that its now barely identifiable as curry! Not his fault. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant, though!

Unbelievably amazing food. My lamb was perfectly prepared and we devoured the best hummus ever brought onto this earth. We both admired the creative art work displayed around the room. The only thing we were sadly missing was the wine. Just fyi, byow. Until next time.

The Blue Door was always one of my husband & I’s favorite go-to local restaurants, with fantastic food and a vibrant atmosphere. The last few experiences have just been«okay». Not great, not bad. They have removed several items of their menu, that were arguably some of their best dishes. Since then, the quality of the food has just been average. We will continue to go and hope for improvement.

The atmosphere was very appealing with decorative art placed throughout the restaurant. The hummus seemed fresh, the lamb was seasoned perfectly. Only complaint was the pastry dessert, the baklava. It was hard and rubbery, like it was warmed in the microwave.

I’m not Mediterranean connoisseur, but I have had traditional Mediterranean food before, and if that’s what you are looking for(as I was) this is not it. The pita was disappointing, more spongy than the crisp airiness it should be. The lamb was delicious, but it was the cheap cut of the lamb(which gyros should be). The vegetables tasted old and not fresh at all. The baklava was microwaved and not crisp. Overall disappointing. The atmosphere is very nice, that was one plus.

My Friday work-day lunch here was serendipitous. Just can’t be any better than this. History: we loved The Blue Door 7 – 8 years ago. Then it closed for quite a while. Since that time, we had no information about it. I was driving from Bonham to Sherman mid-afternoon in the rain so I Unilocaled Sherman for lunch options. Blue Door popped up with excellent stars full of praise. Same address downtown in a great old building. Curb parking. And they are still open for lunch. Arriving, I noticed a significant change in the décor, but the great bones of the interior were respected. Had the hummus and a small Persian salad to begin. Great, fresh flavors in both. I wanted to eat all of my servings, but I had already ordered a grilled chicken entrée. When my very excellent server brought me the entrée, I could smell the grill smoke from the plate. Basmati rice and grilled fresh vegetables supported my perfectly grilled chicken breast in a browned peppercorn and mushroom sauce. There is no way to describe how much flavor there is in their food. Their menu includes familiar choices of pastas and grilled foods; soups/salads and freshly prepared desserts. The daily lunch special on the day I was there was a grilled bone-in ribeye with grilled vegetables for $ 10.00. My chicken was moist and tender. I took two desserts and my surplus hummus home. Desserts were great. I met the chef/owner and had a great conversation about life of The Blue Door. He and his wife bought the building about a year and a half ago and began making it into a very comfortable and stylish space. Please make the drive or detour into Sherman’s downtown soon and enjoy some great food. The service, the food and table settings will make some magic for you and you will be happy. Namaste.

Found this by chance on Unilocal,so glad I did! Easy to find. Get off Hwy 75 people & make this your go-to when in Sherman! Because the chef is a world traveler, he has perfected serveral international cuisines. The falafel & gyros are the best!!! My mom likes his Sicilian dishes. The chef hand picks the best of every single ingredient and its so obvious. The décor is vibrantly beautiful! Good staff. P. S. If you are lucky enough to go at off peek, talk with the chef! He is a world traveler and very interesting, fun to talk with. He is extremely humble & appreciates his patrons. It makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that and that your food is made with love!

My daughter and I were in Sherman to check out Austin College. Before heading back to Dallas, we had lunch at BLUEDOORCAFE. We had high hopes, impressed that the small town even had a Mediterranean restaurant, but I think the praising Unilocal reviews were probably from locals happy for anything that’s not a fast-food or BBQ. The salad was rather ordinary for a Greek meal starter; but there was an attempt to add interest with a garnish of ½ a strawberry and 1⁄16 of an apple(LOL). The falafel mini patties(appetizers plate) were flavorful, nicely crunchy on the outside. The hummus & baba ganoush? No comment. My daughter reported that her gyro sandwichs tasted great and it was HUGE; my Moroccan Braised Tilapia was missing the ‘spices of the region’ that piqued my interest from the menu description. Oh, well! The restaurant’s interiors are regional; Greek taverna style chairs, rich browns with ‘sea recalling’ turquoise accents, give you the feel that you have travelled beyond the Texas/Oklahoma border!

We were traveling and ck’d Unilocal for a place to grab a bite. Got more than we expected. Vintage Urban Chic décor, exceptional service and wonderful menu. So glad we stopped will definitely stop here again. Wonderful Greek dressing. I was up for something simple and healthy. Beautiful Greek salad with grilled chicken. Ready to dig in.

I’m super excited to have this place in Sherman because it reminds me so much of the cool and unique restaurants that I always loved visiting on lower Greenville Avenue in Dallas. As a newbie to the Sherman area, it’s great to find a hip and eclectic hole-in-the-wall place like this, especially as a contrast to the area’s large offering of chain restaurants. This place is spot-on with its décor, kind of a Mediterranean shabby chic, and I even love the chill lounge music they were playing(which had a Middle Eastern flavor to it of course). The overall atmosphere is fun and vibrant yet chill and relaxed at the same time — reminiscent of Dallas’ Café Izmir or Velvet Hookah. And yes, the food is great too. I came in on a late Friday afternoon to an empty restaurant, so I wasn’t terribly surprised that I had to look around for someone to help me — everyone was back in the kitchen and must not have heard the door — but once I was seated, it was all great. The waitress and chef were both very nice and helpful in answering questions. I had the Curry Flavored Tilapia per the chef’s recommendation and it was fantastic. I tried the tomato basil soup and Italian Cream Cake as well, and they were good too, but I liked the Tilapia the best out of all that I tried. I REALLY want this place to stick around(they told me they’ve been open for about a year), so I’m gonna try to go there as often as possible and recommend it to others. It was great for lunch and I definitely see it being a great place for date night. I already know this is where I’ll want to go on my birthday too!
