I stopped to get some sweet corn for dinner. 5 ears for 2 bucks. The price of food has really gone up! I really wanted the corn so I got it. Plus some other items. Peaches, cherries, onions. I was disappointed that the corn when I shucked it, had dried kernals at the top of the ear. I cooked and ate it anyway. I will be back to pick up produce that I may have forgotten on my regular grocery shopping expeditions. However, I don’t think I will stop there to buy all my produce. Too expensive and the quality for what I got was not that great.

Before immigrants behind mini-mart counters could speak like they grew up on John Singleton’s block, people went to places like Granpy’s. I walked in and Granpy’s 80 year old son greeted me with jokes and laughter. His wife smiled up at me as she plomped down violets in a wooden vat. The smallish corner mart is filled with just enough fresh produce, just enough of Granpy’s spiced jellies, just enough of Granpy’s homemade frozen pies, just enough medicine, tea, water, and juice. I left twirling around twice with the happy flurry of effusive goodbyes.
