Do yourself a favor and order the seafood burrito, it’s easily the best thing on the menu. The staff here is always courteous. We are there every weekend in the summer and we have never been disappointed. Also don’t forget to bring your own tequila!

Not so good. No distinctive taste. We got a variety of tacos and burritos. Blah.

Stopped in for lunch. There was one other table filled and we sat down. There was one server, Kelsey. As we placed our order the customers just kept coming in. The place was packed. We watched her run from table to table and never stopped smiling. She handled the place remarkably. Our order came out perfect and she also made sure our glasses were refilled. The service and the food was excellent. Great job Kelsey!

Where do I start… The succulent coconut shrimp was almost as delicious as out waitor. Brandon. What’s next you ask only the best fish taco on the island get it chipolte style if your feeling spicy I know I was! All in all in it was a Mexican fiesta in my mouth and I loved it! Diez out of Diez

I’ve been to lex mex many times since they opened on lbi. Great food and good times every time! Lex mex is a kicked back southwest inspired local ocean to table eatery owned by a local surfer with a strong rep for shredding the local breaks. His dad has a strong reputation as a waterman as well. Lunchtime burritos were amazing. We had the seafood which was loaded with local scallops and shrimp. It was sweet… amazing sweet, pretty much exactly what your looking for from scallops. The other was the blackened yellow fin which was amazing as well. It was loaded with fish and shredded cabbage with a mayo sauce which added to the savory flavor. We wrapped up with a bucket of churros. Yum!!! We were so stuffed in just the perfect way! Thanks to the friendly staff too!!!

Fun place with a great vibe. Excellent salsa, fair but boring food. Needs move flavor. If it was traditional Mexican food it would be amazing. Tastes too American to be Mexican food.

This place is the worst! Have eaten here several times and each time it’s the same disappointment. They have no refried beans, no plantains– only chicken enchiladas– no cheese! Wait time is at least 45 minutes! Go to Surf Taco– many more options and much better taste!

Definite LBI take on Mexican food & the service was very nice. Not a huge selection, but what they offer is good. Also, would recommend leaving room for dessert.

Okay, so Lex Mex is definitely not your typical Mexican joint, and as such you shouldn’t necessarily go in expecting super traditional Mexican food or for the generic«Chipotle» experience. Instead I like to think of an surfer beach dude interpretation of Mexican with great fresh seafood at really reasonable prices(and BYOB!). People who feel they have to reference that they once lived in California and as such are true experts in all things Mexican would definitely not appreciate this place(and instead should just go back to CA). My advice is once you are sick of eating fisherman’s platters and crab cakes at every other place in town go into Lex Mex with and open mind(and preferably a 6 pack of ice cold beer) and order the fish taco. Trust me, just skip straight to the fish taco. While you are waiting enjoy the free chips and salsa(skip the guac). Remember the open mind part as once your fish«taco» you will see it is clearly not a taco but rather a massive fish burrito, but who would really complain about this or care??? It is just a massive belly busting feast of goodness. No it is not on a hand made tortilla with artisanal cheese made in some hipsters studio apartment(I can say this since I live in Brooklyn and in fact have neighbors who make cheese in their tiny studio apt for some of the hippest restaurants), but what it is is a tasty beast of a burrito with a whole hell of a lot of fish in it. I like to get it chipotle style which adds a lot of kick for a $ 1.50 more and tames the rather sweet sauce they put on it(remember, keep that open mind!). To top it all off the staff is super friendly and chill which is worth a ton in my book(and a lot of them seem to have been there for years). I have tried the mahi burrito and the seafood one, but still think the fish taco is the way to go.

FRESHSALSA! You can’t go wrong here. Beef tacos were well seasoned and packed a ton of flavor, and K’s enchilada was enormous and delicious as well. All of the ingredients were fresh which I think makes all the difference in a great meal as opposed to an average meal. Lex Mex is super laid back and friendly… Stumble in off the beach, bring the family, bring the wife, bring your own tequila because it will come in handy when you need to doctor up their well blended virgin margaritas!

Our experience here was far below average. Honestly, I feel I’m being kind by giving it 2 stars. The salsa was clearly home made and fully appreciated in its taste and freshness. However, to charge $ 9 for a buffalo shrimp app and give exactly 5 shrimp is ridiculous and overpriced. Fish tacos– it was actually a burrito. The«slaw» was not slaw at all– rather, it was actually raw unseasoned cabbage. Seafood burrito– this was mainly composed of a hot salsa with what tasted of frozen seafood. Bottom line– this place is really a tex mex diner.
Sorry to say this restaurant didn’t live up to it’s reputation on Unilocal. The chips and salsa they bring to the table upon seating you were nothing to write home about. The salsa was awesome but the chips were stale. The nachos we ordered were cold, and the cheese was congealed; but the guacamole was DISGUSTING. It tasted like it had been sitting much too long. We ordered the taco salad and yellow fin burrito. The taco salad with no meat was mediocre. The tuna in the burrito was rubbery, there was a putrid fishy odor and it had been vacuum packed as opposed to the«fresh» as advertised. It tasted rancid. We will never go back to this restaurant.
