Walmart is what it is — one of the largest supermarket convenience stores in the world. This location in Shippensburg has everything you’d expect at a Walmart, though I like the layout inside of this store better than others(it feels bigger and spaced out in the right way to me). There’s plenty of parking and the lot isn’t weird of hard to navigate at all. This was my «home away from home» Walmart all 7 years I was at the university earning both of my degrees, so I’ve spent a lot of time here. Overall, it’s ok store. I would probably rate it 4 stars if not for a pointedly negative experience that took place one time while my wife and I were using the self checkout. As Spanish speakers, we were using the Spanish mode of the machine when we ran into an issue with a coupon. An older employee walked over and started cancelling our order. We told her there was an issue with our coupon and she ignored us, and continued deleting our order(there were quite a few items). We told her if she needed us to translate the screen, we could do so to help her, and she made a comment about«this being America and we speak English here.» We had watched the woman help another family with the coupon literally one second before our machine had the SAME problem. She was sweet and polite to them. The problem required her to type in an employee code, which took all of 3 seconds. For us, she was rude and disrespectful, and deleted every item we had from our order, and reset the machine to English so she could punch in her code. Needless to say, we were very offended. We spoke to a manager who apologized and assured us this was inappropriate and that the employee would be spoken to about it. I was in this place the other day and saw the woman was still there, watching over the self checkout section. As a White, English-speaking man, I know I don’t have to deal with discriminatory comments like that unless I choose to use the Spanish mode on the machine. There are many Spanish-speaking community members who use this Walmart and do not have that luxury. As such, this location will always stand out in my mind as the one where my wife and I experienced ignorant discrimination.

My typical review for Walmart establishments are usually extremely low, but this location is actually pretty great! I go here at least twice a weekend when I visit my boyfriend. I’ve yet to experience anything really crazy or rude, which surprises me with it being a college town. Everything is normally pretty organized and stocked. I think I’ve only gone in there once or twice to find something low on stock. I usually only get a few times, so the number of self check outs that they have is beneficial. I was going to rate this just a 4, but what made me want to rate this place higher is the one greeter that they have. I have yet to get his name, but he is this one older gentleman that works as a greeter/cart guy. He’s always super chipper and welcoming. He sings a lot and even raps a bit. He’s seriously one of the best employees there and he brings the biggest smile to my face whenever I go! As many times as I’ve been there, he’s never failed to be super happy and welcoming. This guy truly makes the Walmart experience ten times better!

One star due to them treating their employees like crap. Store manager was witness yelling at a young girl in tears. No clue why but shows no class as a store manager should never act this way.

As far as Wally World’s go, I like to classify them. This one is pretty good. Not a «mutant» WalMart like Chambersburg(frequented by some pretty mutanty-looking people and on some nights it’s Barrio or Ghetto night). I digress… Hagerstown, MD is «Prison WalMart» as you see a lot of sheet white scary-looking people wandering around in awe(I think they truly just got out of prison there). Always crowded and annoying. Gettysburg is «Yuppie WalMart» and is pretty nice. Germantown, MD(where my mother-in-law lives) is «Third World WalMart» and truly, it is. Oh well. Don’t go there much. WalMart in Ship though… PRETTYNICE, though they don’t sell guns anymore?! And don’t have my dog food. However, the guy in charge of that part of the store said he could get it. I have a pretty good impression of this WalMart, but my wife, who is taken to hissing and flipping out, does not like it as it does not have every little thing the other one had. AND it is laid out different. I am giving it 4 stars because it doesn’t have many items, but hey, it does have an auto place to change your oil and Chambersburg does not… How’s dat?!

Like all Walmarts I have ever been to, they make checking out almost impossible. Two checkout lines open(out of 20), each with about 15 people in line. Then they closed down one lane. Meanwhile, numerous employees are wandering the store. I put back the backpack I really needed and GTFO.
