Closets By Design

I did not realize that there was a difference in quality when I selected this particular company. I was not given a list of dos and don’ts after installation. The closet looked great. Many mornings I put my coffee on the flat surface as I get ready for work. The seam split and bubbled.significantly. When the workmen came to see what the problem was they told me that I had spilled water on the surface which was not true. They left and I never heard from them again. I am left with an unsightly makeup shelf the speaks poorly of this product. we also did a second coset prior to this problem and my husbands tie rack broke and fell off the wall. I would seriously consider using an alternative closet company like California Closets.

I ended up not hiring Closets by Design because they were not able to do what I was hoping for my closet. However, the customer service I received from them was phenomenal! They said they couldn’t re-​do my closet the way I wanted but said they would look into other places that may be able to do the work for me. I got an email this morning with a link to places that could help. Granted, these were places where I could buy the components, but would have to install myself… so I opted not to go that route, but I thought it was above and beyond to help me out! I contracted them to redo two of my closets. I LOVED my consultant– she was fabulous.
The contractors came this morning and it only got worse as the day went one.
1) They said I should provide parking and that they may have to reschedule because there is no parking… I live in the city and don’t have parking. I could not believe that they had not planned ahead or thought of this!
2) Then as the worker is bringing out material from my apartment, they break the glass door. When I ask what happened, the guy said «accidents happen” — NOT appropriate.
3) Also as they are bringing material out of my apartment, my neighbor also asks about the door and received a very rude comment from the worker.
I would never use them again because of their customer service.

I just purchased a house that had a closet designed and installed by this company. When I moved in it was not working well, and it proceeded to fall apart, nearly injuring my 10 year old daughter. I called the company. They said the warranty was not transferable to the new home owners. They said fixing it would cost $ 165 per hour. I said I could get a carpenter for $ 50/​hr. This closed is SHODDY, do not waste your money. It will fall apart and injure you. Get a carpenter to build a REAL wood closet. This product is not real wood and the drawer sliders are cheap and break. It is held together by little plastic pieces. Plus the original cost of this closet ($ 1,500) is absurd. I could hire a carpenter to do a much better job for half the cost. Especially in this recession. Also, Jen, who runs this shop, cancelled my appointment without telling me. Nice service Jen.
